ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー
“Nice to meet you all, and welcome to this ski trip. I apologize for the delayed introduction—I’m Miyoshi, the organizer of this event. Since today is the first day, I arranged for a buffet-style dinner to make it easier for everyone to interact with each other. Please feel free to eat, drink, and chat as you like.”
Since Houjou and Miyoshi-san returned late, everyone ended up gathering in the dining hall for dinner. The spacious dining area was filled with warm dishes that had just been delivered by a catering service. And that was when I met Miyoshi-san for the first time.
Given how well-organized and properly planned this trip was, I had imagined a composed, mature woman. But to my surprise, Miyoshi-san was actually quite young.
Not just “youthful” looking. She was literally still young. She looked about college-aged, and sure enough, she was a current university student.
“Twenty-one? That’s young. If you’re going to be a senior next year, that makes you the same age as An.”
“I heard you’re an ‘Elder Partner,’ so I assumed you’d be much older.”
“In families with long-standing businesses, this kind of thing happens a lot. They receive special elite education and start taking over parts of the business while they’re still students. It’s a way to test if they’re suitable as successors. Miyoshi’s family seems to follow that practice too.”
She had been receiving special elite education since she was young? Impressive.
“Wow. Miyoshi-san, which university do you go to?”
“St. Catherine Academy University.”
“I figured. So, you’re from an elite family, huh?”
“Is that so? I think she mentioned that at St. Catherine, her family background is pretty average. Apparently, there are way more impressive people there.”
Yeah, I could see that. The girls at the exchange event had seemed oddly detached from reality. That school probably had a lot of people who, in another era, might have been aristocrats.
“Are the other Elder Partners who are coming also from St. Catherine?”
“Not necessarily. I heard they’re people she met through work. As for their ages… I guess they vary?”
“Hmm. If it’s work-related, does that mean they’re all career women?”
“Huh? Takeda, what was that? Where did you even dig up the fossilized term ‘career woman’?”
“Wait, is that term not used anymore?”
“Of course not. Women building careers in society is normal. The term ‘career woman,’ which treats working women as something special, is a relic of the past, back when the gender ratio in the workforce was still skewed. It’s completely outdated now.”
“Exactly. Takeda, did you time-travel here from that era or something?”
I see. Now that they mention it, that logic makes sense. Hmm… This world really tests my grasp of its common sense in moments like this.
I had always thought I had been transported to another world, but yeah. In some ways, this felt more like time travel instead.
“Yeah, you’re right. I guess I was a bit out of it.”
“Come to think of it, Takeda, you’re good at other subjects, but you’ve always been bad at social studies, haven’t you?”
“Yeah. I’m terrible at modern history and probably world geography and civics too.”
Conflicts that should have happened hadn’t, and laws, treaties, and agreements had been altered significantly. In some regions, even the borders of nations had changed. My brain was in complete chaos trying to remember all these stuff compared to how it was in the old world.
“So basically, you’re bad at all things social studies. Are you just bad at memorizing stuff?”
“Rather than being bad at it, I feel like everything just gets jumbled up in my head.”
“Jumbled, huh? Well, I suck at social studies too, so I kinda get it.”
So Yuuki is bad at social studies too. Comrade!
But unlike me, he never had to take remedial classes.
“Students from the A-Class, are you seriously talking about studying even here? Let’s talk about something else.”
Three guys from C-Class, who had been talking with the Yuuki sisters earlier, walked over to join us. The older girls… oh, they were chatting with Miyoshi-san and Matsunaga-san. I should make sure to properly thank them later for inviting me to this trap.
“Something else, like what?”
“Like tomorrow’s pairings, for example.”
“Pairings?”
“Yeah. Today, Takeda, you disappeared with the Moemado twins before we knew it. That’s not fair!”
“…Huh? Is that how my actions looked to everyone?”
“Sorry. But I didn’t go off on my own on purpose. I was just transferring lifts and got separated from everyone by the time I realized it…”
“Exactly! We’re not saying you shouldn’t go on the advanced course, but at least, let’s all play together first!”
“Yeah, let’s discuss and decide on the teams first!”
Is this turning into a game of Hana Ichimonme or what? Well, I understand their point though.
“Got it. Tomorrow, we’re snowboarding, right? Should we all stick to the same course?”
“Of course! We want to have fun with the twins too!”
Hirano declared with enthusiasm.
“Right? A 3:2 guy-to-girl ratio isn’t as good as 4:4! Balance is important!”
Wakisaka was just as fired up. The entire C-Class boys’ group was being unusually intense. Were they into older girls or something?
“Oh, the numbers, huh. What about you, Yuuki? Are you coming to the slopes tomorrow?”
“If it’s snowboarding, I might as well join in.”
“OK, OK. Yuuki is their little brother, so no problem at all.”
“Alright! Now that that’s settled, let’s eat!”
After that, I went over to properly greet Miyoshi-san, filled my stomach, and then joined a card game in the lounge before heading to bed. Miyoshi-san had a gentle, approachable demeanor—she and Houjou seemed like a good match.
Yawn. All that traveling and skiing really wore me out… I’m so sleepy.
Goodnight.
《Goodnight.》
