“So this is the last day I’ll be wearing this uniform.”
I took the uniform, now completely molded to my body, off the hanger and put it on piece by piece. The thought that I wouldn’t be wearing it anymore felt strange. It had been just under two years since I came to this world.
The days had flown by in a whirlwind. It had been so fun that I almost didn’t want to move forward—everything sparkled. Thrown into a completely unfamiliar world, with even my memories in shambles… The only thing I could rely on was this magical diary. Never would I have imagined I’d get to spend such fulfilling days.
“Thank you.”
To this world that surrounded me. To the kind and vibrant women. Guess I’m feeling a bit sentimental. But I suppose that’s just how it is on graduation day.
Once I had fully gotten ready, I picked up the flamboyantly bound diary that sat proudly on my desk.
“Whoa, heavy. Has it gotten thicker?”
It used to only contain records of my previous life and a simple profile. Flipping through the pages, I found that memories of my time in this world were drawn out like a photo album.
“Why is it already edited? This is nostalgic. A picture diary… No, at this point, it’s practically a photo journal. When did you even take all these pictures?”
《I never miss a shutter chance. Thanks to Master’s achievements, I’ve evolved into an ultra-multifunctional diary. Customization is always available. Naturally, I’ll also record today’s events.》
“Yeah. I’m counting on you.”
When I arrived at school, the usual faces were there. There was a slightly giddy, festive atmosphere in the air. Wearing small bouquets on our chests, we lined up and moved to the auditorium.
The graduation ceremony proceeded solemnly. Names were read aloud, awards presented. No accidents, nothing out of place—everything followed the program. One by one, we received our diplomas and commemorative items, and the long ceremony came to an end.
During the final homeroom back in the classroom, our homeroom teacher made a shocking announcement.
“I have an announcement for all of you. This spring, I, Hanako Satou, will become Hanako Mizushima! I’ll still be working at this school, so please feel free to visit me even after graduation.”
“Congratulations!”
“Wow! She really did end up with MizuP.”
“Nice going, Sensei!”
“A workplace romance? Satou, seriously—congrats!”
“I’m so jealous!”
The class erupted over Satou-sensei’s wedding news. Her husband-to-be was Mizushima-sensei, our grade-level teacher. He was apparently transferring to the school’s administrative division because of the marriage.
“Graduates, please follow staff instructions and proceed to the student entrance.”
“Class A goes last, apparently.”
“Last year we were the ones seeing off the seniors, and now it’s our turn. Time really flew by.”
“Yeah, with exams and everything, time just disappeared.”
The last event of graduation day was the flower path created by the underclassmen. The brass band played a triumphant BGM, and flower arches lined the path from the student entrance to the front gate in neat formation. Underclassmen filled both sides of the path.
Amid unending applause, I walked through, feeling a little embarrassed. I spotted a few familiar faces. Even after we exited through the main gate, the thunderous clapping didn’t stop.
“There you are! Senpai! Wait—don’t go yet!”
“Congratulations on your graduation!”
“Whoa, what’s going on?”
“Senpai! I beg you, please! Give this to me!”
Clutching my second button in her fist was, unbelievably, Sanae-chan.
“Give it to me!” “Please!” “I want one too!”
That started a wave—underclassmen rushed in, demanding buttons one after another, and in no time my jacket was completely stripped bare of buttons.
“I’ll definitely chase after you, Senpai!”
“Ugh, I wanted the second button! I can’t believe Sanae beat me to it!”
“As if you can talk, Haruka-chan—you already snagged the school badge!”
In that rather ragged state, we took our graduation photos together. I was sure this too would soon become a fond memory of mine.
“It’s over, huh.”
“Yeah. It’s sad, but high school ends today!”
The season of dancing cherry blossoms would be here soon.
“See you again!”
“Take care!”
Even as we each went down our own paths, new encounters surely awaited us. There would be reunions too, by fate or by chance. This wasn’t a farewell—it was a beginning.
We would study for our futures, enter society, fall in love many times, and eventually vow eternal love. The days spent with the women I loved would surely be full of warmth.
Even if my kids called me an annoying dad and gave me the cold shoulder sometimes, I’d still dote on them. Surrounded by love and kindness—and sometimes a bit of tough love—I’d run through life with all I had, grow old, and eventually return to the earth.
Ah, what a luxurious life that would be…
《It’s still too early. Don’t forget your mission.》
“Yeah. I know.”
I had a feeling this diary and I would be together for a long time. Sitting in the sun as an old man, flipping through the vivid records added to the blank pages, I’d probably forget all about time passing. That kind of life was waiting ahead.
All right, let’s go. Goodbye, my high school life. I’ll be back again someday. Up next… My teaching internship!
