Chapter 03: A Kindhearted God
While escorting him, the woman’s attitude toward Taiga gradually softened.
She even answered simple questions, like telling him her name.
If that change was thanks to the pity effect of having the skill Self-Destruct, that was a slightly painful thought.
Still, in a world where he had no one else to rely on, building a friendly relationship with the only person he could currently talk to was definitely a win.
After walking for quite some time and running out of things to chat about, Taiga called out to the woman walking ahead of him—Leia.
“Miss Leia, are we almost there yet?”
“No. We’ve just arrived.”
“Arrived? Uh… Miss Leia, there’s nothing here though…”
Taiga looked around in confusion.
It looked exactly like the same forest they had been walking through.
There was no sign of Leia’s master—the one who supposedly wanted to meet him.
But judging from her calm expression, she had expected this reaction.
“There’s a barrier here. But if you enter with me, you’ll be fine.”
“A barrier? That exists too, huh…”
“Stay close.”
“Y-Yes.”
The moment they stepped through the barrier together, the scenery changed.
The inside felt completely different from the forest outside.
If he had to describe it—
It reminded him a little of the pure white room where Goddess Urza had been.
And in that strange space stood a single woman, waiting for them.
“…She’s beautiful…”
“Watch your manners.”
“Ah! S-Sorry!”
Taiga had completely lost himself staring at the woman.
The words slipped out before he could stop them.
Leia was beautiful too, without a doubt.
But this was different.
He couldn’t quite explain it—
It felt as though her very existence was beautiful.
Still, even if it was praise, blurting something like that out upon first meeting was rude.
Leia immediately corrected him, and Taiga quickly bowed his head.
[Fufu. It’s quite all right, Leia. And Taiga, please raise your head.]
“B-But, Lady Sheila—”
[Leia?]
“…Yes. …Taiga.”
“A-Ah! Thank you very much!”
The woman Leia called Sheila kindly forgave his clumsy behavior.
[It seems you two have grown rather close in such a short time, Leia.]
“That’s not the case.”
[Is that so? Fufu, very well. Now then, Taiga.]
“Y-Yes!”
Sheila, who had been smiling warmly at Leia, turned her gaze to Taiga.
This felt like the true reason he had been brought here.
[Thank you for coming all this way. I am Sheila, the one Leia serves.]
“A-Ah, I’m Taiga Origami!”
[Yes. I’ve heard quite a bit about you through Leia. It seems Goddess Urza has put you through a great deal… It must have been difficult.]
“Ah… yes… Um, Lady Sheila? Miss Leia mentioned it too, but… do you know that goddess? Is she really that famous in this world?”
Taiga knew almost nothing about this world.
So he had no idea whether it was normal—or rare—for everyone he met to already know about the goddess.
[That’s a fair question. People like Leia and me, who understand the inner workings of the gods, are quite rare. However, Goddess Urza is famous as the chief deity of humans and demi-humans. So many people at least know her name.]
“I see… That woman, seriously…”
Thinking that such an arrogant and completely heartless woman was the main goddess of humanity made Taiga feel like this world had very little hope.
And yet—
Even though he was technically Urza’s Hero, no one corrected his disrespectful tone.
If anything, Leia strongly nodded in agreement with his complaints.
Seeing their reactions, Taiga began to realize something.
“Lady Sheila… Miss Leia… the reason you know so much about her is because…”
[Yes. Just as you’re imagining, Taiga. I am a goddess as well, much like Urza. And Leia is my Hero. Though unlike Urza, I am a minor deity with only one Hero to my name.]
His guess was completely correct.
And with that confirmed, Taiga had only one thought.
“Miss Leia!”
“What?”
“That’s not fair!”
“Why not?”
[Um… as I just mentioned, I’m a small, lesser deity, you know?]
