Chapter 4: First Date (1)
“Do you have any plans for today?”
“No, I don’t have anything.”
“I see. That’s good,” she said, rubbing her face against my chest.
“Alright, then… we can keep being lovey-dovey, right?”
“Uh, yeah.”
Then, in bed, we repeatedly hugged, kissed, and held hands, breathing heavily.
Perhaps because she’s from another country, her approach was pretty intense. Honestly, for me, a virgin, it was too much stimulation.
…Falling seriously in love with an idol is something only an idiot would do…
I thought I understood that, but still.
She gently touched my bedhead and laughed, “Your bedhead is cute too. Hehehe,” seeming very pleased.
Is this how it is with her?
It definitely feels… quite happy.
She lightly pinched my cheek and asked, “Did you start liking me?”
Honestly, I was probably starting to like her, or maybe I already did.
Elna is cute, shows a lot of affection, and is kind…
But there were definitely many things to be uncertain about.
I’m like a 30-year-old secondhand house when it comes to dating.
If a new, better option comes along, would she just discard me?
She’s the daughter of a wealthy family, so she must have many choices.
Even if it doesn’t lead to a divorce, she could easily leave me behind.
…But it’s pointless to think about that.
It’s best to answer truthfully about how I feel right now.
“…Yeah. I probably… like you. But, to be honest, I don’t really know what liking someone feels like… My first love was probably Serizawa Seina, so I’ve never really felt like liking a girl in front of me. I’m kind of confused, not sure what to do.”
“…Oh, you said that. The idol girl, right? What do you like about her? Her looks? Or her personality as an idol? Who do you think is cuter, her or me?”
If I’m being completely honest, I think Seina is cuter overall…
But I know she’s just a TV personality, and her personality is probably just an act.
“I think Seina is cuter… but,” I started, and Elna hugged me.
“…No. I want to be number one. How can I be number one?”
“Wait!?//”
“…If I kill that girl, will I be number one?”
What!? She’s talking about killing her!
“No, that’s not okay. If I killed her, she wouldn’t age. If I did that, in your heart, she would always shine as she did back then. If that happened, I could never win against her, in the real world.”
“No, don’t talk about killing…!”
“Then tell me, how can I beat that girl?”
“…U-Um…”
“…Forget it. No matter what I do… I’m just not good enough,” she said, pulling away from me.
“No, that’s not it!” I tried to grab her shoulder, but she said, “Don’t touch me.”
“D-Don’t say that…”
She stood up and left the room.
“…”
I guess that’s understandable.
If I kept acting all indecisive even though we were supposed to get married…
I collapsed onto the bed.
Then, the door opened suddenly, and she walked briskly towards me, jumping onto the bed to hug me.
“Huh?”
“It’s a joke. I love you, Momiji-kun. I wouldn’t stop liking you that easily. But… if you keep acting like that, I might get bored.”
“…Uh, yeah.”
“Let’s go see a movie today.”
“A movie?”
“Yeah. There’s a movie that looks really interesting playing right now.”
“…Then I need to get ready.”
“…Let’s cuddle a little more first.”
After cuddling until Elna was satisfied, we were ready for our date.
We didn’t leave together from home because it wouldn’t feel like a date, so Elna left first. I left about five minutes later.
When we arrived at the café in front of the station, Elna smiled and walked toward me.
“S-Sorry to keep you waiting…”
Seeing her like this, I was really impressed by how cute she was.
It was obvious from the reactions around us too: “Hey, who’s that beautiful girl?” “Is she a model?” they murmured, staring at her.
And then, “But look at the guy she’s meeting. Haha, what’s he like?” “Why’s she with someone like him? Haha.” “Is he after her money?”
Yeah, it makes sense.
If I were in their shoes, I’d probably say those things out of jealousy.
Maybe my expression showed it because she squinted her eyes, shut her mouth, and walked up to me, kissing me to show everyone.
“Hey!”
“Seriously?”
“Wow, that’s unfair!”
“The heck, those comments are so loud. Come on, Momiji-kun, let’s go,” she said as she grabbed my hand and started walking.

Chapter 5: First Date (2)
“…Elna-san. Is this the movie you wanted to watch?”
“Yes, this one.”
[The Cruel Family]
“A landlord, responding to complaints from nearby residents about terrible children’s screams, reluctantly visits a house.
Though he believes the house, built 50 years ago, should only have a 90-year-old grandmother living there, when he visits, he hears the sounds of a child screaming from inside.
What the landlord witnesses is a bloody middle school girl and a woman in her 40s drinking the girl’s blood.
The landlord, paralyzed with fear, barely manages to return home and contacts a detective agency reputed to deal with the occult.
What follows is a series of horrifying events.
Why was the middle school girl targeted?
Who is that woman?
And what is the true identity of that detective…?
Japan’s greatest terror awaits you.”
…It’s a super-talked-about horror movie, huh!?
“…D-Do you like horror movies?”
“Well, not particularly. I can tolerate scary movies to some extent.”
“Then, then… It doesn’t have to be this movie… As I mentioned before, I’m… bad with horror…”
“I know,” she says, grinning.
“…Huh?”
“That’s why we’re watching it. I want to see you scared, Momiji-kun,” she adds with a lewd smile.
“…You’re such a sadist.”
“You just realized now? I’m pretty much a sadist normally.”
She’s a submissive in bed though!
Shut up! I retort silently in my mind.
And so, dragged along, I ended up watching the movie, and it was absolutely the worst.
It starts with a very tense atmosphere, then a rush of jump scares from the beginning. Every time, I flinch, and each time, Elna-san laughs at me.
Afterward, it’s bloody, frightening, loud, and scary… Almost two hours of non-stop scares, it’s like enduring torture.
By the time the movie ends, I look like I’ve lost about 5 kg, and I walk while leaning against the wall.
“…I feel sick.”
“Heh, you’re really bad with it, huh? You couldn’t refuse me and watched it even though you don’t like it… You’re really cute,” she says, patting my head.
“…”
I sit down in a chair to rest, unable to come up with a good comeback.
I didn’t want to move for a while.
Then, as I sip on some bottled tea from the vending machine, I hear, “Oh? If it isn’t Amatsuka!” I look over, and there’s a girl from the seat next to mine, Honjo Ringo, running toward me in a maid outfit.
“…Ugh.”
Honestly, I’m not comfortable around her.
She talks to everyone, male and female alike, without distinction, and rather than being a people-pleaser, she’s a good-natured and beautiful eccentric who doesn’t seem to differentiate between people.
For someone like me, who can’t get along with just anyone, I don’t know how to approach her.
She immediately glances at Elna and exclaims, “Wow! She’s super pretty! Who is this? Amatsuka’s acquaintance?”
Even the naturally honest and air-headed Honjo can’t say “girlfriend,” which makes it clear that Elna-san and I are not well-matched.
“…Yes, I’m Momiji-kun’s… No. Hey, Momiji-kun? What kind of relationship do we have?” she tosses me a perfect setup, making me speak.
“…Fiancée.”
“Fi…Fiancée!? Really!? That’s way too unexpected…”
“So, what about you? What’s your relationship with Momiji-kun?”
“Hmm… Friends with benefits?” she says, striking a pose with a confident expression.
At that moment, she stares at me with a gaze more frightening than the horror movie from earlier.
I couldn’t take it anymore and chopped her.
“Ouch! It was a joke! A joke! Well, we’re just classmates and friends!”
Are we really friends though? We only started talking about a week ago, and we just happened to sit next to each other. It’s not like we talk that often…
“…I see. Friends. Friends… huh?”
This is bad…
She won’t have forgotten the part where Elna-san said she has no female friends…
“…Anyway, what’s with that outfit?”
“Hm? Oh, this! I’m currently in the middle of a daddy-hunting thing!” she says excitedly while introducing the older man standing behind her.
Then that man, just like me, gets chopped.
“Don’t say things that can be misunderstood. Nice to meet you. I’m Ringo’s father. I’m always grateful for her time spent with you.”
The man standing there seemed like a normal father, in contrast to his flashy daughter.
When I heard about Ringo’s father, I half-expected him to be some farmer or something.
“…Ah, no, it’s not like I’m really being helped or anything…”
“Amatsuka’s been showing Ringo his homework, right?! Oh, Dad! The movie’s starting! Let’s go, let’s go! Well, see you tomorrow at school! I want to hear all about how you and that girl met!” she says as she rushes off like a whirlwind.
“…What an energetic girl.”
“…Yeah.”
“But you had a female friend,” she emphasizes.
“…It’s only her thinking that,” I mutter before she pinches my side hard.
“Ouch!?” I recoil and try to create some distance, but she immediately closes the gap and whispers in my ear.
“…There’s no one like that anymore, right? No female friends who just think they’re friends.”
I break out in a cold sweat and whisper, “…Nope, none.”
