Childhood Friends Can Sometimes be Annoying yet Precious (1)
In the morning, the alarm goes off as usual.
I wake up blinking my eyes.
It seems like waking up in the morning is not as difficult as usual.
This is probably thanks to Airi.
I’m grateful that she has been caring for me in various ways since that day.
Then, I get ready for the morning.
If I prepare our breakfast again like yesterday, Airi might sulk.
So, I think I’ll leave it to her today.
It’s becoming a regular thing lately, well actually, this is only our third time having breakfast together.
Suddenly, the intercom rings, announcing Airi’s arrival.
Airi comes to the living room and greets me with her usual ‘Good morning’ with a gentle smile on her face.
I return her smile with a ‘Good morning’ as well.
When I look at her face, I feel relieved that she doesn’t seem distressed or sad like yesterday, I breathe a sigh of relief.
Airi looks at the table, nods, and start to prepare breakfast.
I should help her with the preparations as well.
Well, I know that in the end I’ll just making tea for us…
I’m feeling good today, so I decided to brew some of Mom’s special tea.
We quickly prepare breakfast together and say ‘Itadakimasu’ before eating.
Indeed, I realize that sharing a meal with someone is a wonderful thing…
Especially after having meals alone yesterday for both lunch and dinner, I appreciate it even more.
The breakfast Airi made is absolutely delicious without a doubt.
I finish it quickly and take a sip of tea to relax.
After drinking her tea, Airi widens her eyes.
“Hey, this tea is really good!”
I don’t have such a refined palate to discern the difference in tea, but if Airi is pleased, then I’m happy.
“I’m glad to hear that. I made it using Mom’s special tea.”
“Eh, you used your mom’s special tea?”
“Yeah, that’s right. I heard it’s something good, but I can’t taste the difference at all. Does it taste that different?”
“Hah, Akito, you’re just used to drinking delicious tea. You’ll probably get scolded later when your mom comes home! Because, this one is probably more than just ‘good’…and that’s just not in terms of taste, but also in terms of price.”
Airi teases me so with a mischievous tone.
Is she provoking a reaction from me?
“Don’t worry, if I say I brewed it for you, I think she’ll forgive me…probably…”
Mom has a soft spot for Airi after all.
“Well, okay then. Thanks for the delicious tea.”
After saying so, Airi smiles happily once again.
Then she slowly enjoys and finish her tea.
“Thank you for the meal. So…what’s the reason behind treating me to such good tea?”
“Of course, the main reason is because I thought you’d enjoy it.”
“And?”
“I figured if your mood improves, it might lighten the atmosphere.”
“There is no need for such tactics…it must be about yesterday, right? We’ll talk about it properly.”
“Yeah, it’s been on my mind lately.”
“Then, what about we talk about it during lunch break?”
“Thank you.”
“It’s fine, it concerns Akito too after all.”
Airi’s expression shows no hints of sadness or anything like that as she says so.
Seeing that the situation doesn’t seem to be taking a turn for the worse, I feel relieved.
After finishing our breakfast, it’s time for the peaceful walk to school as usual.
I feel like my daily life is gradually returning to normal.
When I arrive at the classroom, I exchange glances with Kouta.
As he notices my gaze, he responds with a cheerful thumbs-up.
…I guess there is no point in exchanging glances.
During lunch break, since me and Airi want to talk about that matter, I have lunch with her.
For some reason, we end up in the handicraft club room.
“Why the handicraft club?”
I can’t help but ask so.
“Don’t worry, I have permission.”
With that, Airi flips over the placard on the door.
In the room adorned with cute curtains and stuffed animals, I sit facing Airi.
Airi takes out the bento she brought.
“Let’s eat first.”
Airi says so while handing me a bento.
With that, we say ‘Itadakimasu’ together and begin to eat our bento.
As expected, the bento prepared by Airi is really delicious.
Her tamagoyaki tastes exactly like Mom’s…
