Chapter 11: Behind the Gym
Physical education classes were held separately for boys and girls.
The boys played soccer on the field, while the girls played basketball in the gym. Since Karasuma-san had messaged me earlier, I changed into my gym clothes and headed to the back of the gym.
“Sorry to keep you waiting.”
“No, I just got here too.”
We met up, and there she was—a goddess.
Karasuma-san, with her long, straight black hair tied behind her head, had an athletic aura that mesmerized me. Her long legs extended from her shorts, and her clear, radiant skin was dazzling.
“Sorry for calling you out like this. Was it too roundabout?”
“Not at all. So, what did you want to talk about?”
“You know what it is. Kyosaka, can you stop adding ‘san’ and use my first name, Chikage?”
Her request was so sudden that I reflexively tensed up.
Although Karasuma-san’s face was half-covered by a black mask, I could tell from her eyes that she was serious.
“I kind of figured it was something like that.”
“It’s not fair that you’re giving special treatment to Tsukasa and Sakurako by calling only them that.”
Pouting behind her mask, Karasuma-san sulked cutely.
Her gesture was one hundred percent adorable.
“But, um… calling you by your first name without any honorifics feels a bit difficult.”
Though I had gotten used to calling Sakura by her first name, it was still challenging to call Tsu-chan without any honorifics.
Given that I had already told Tsu-chan it was hard for me to drop honorifics, I had to keep up appearances, even if it was a personal issue.
This was my own doing, my own fault.
“Kyosaka. Look me in the eyes.”
“…Yes.”
I found myself speaking politely because her eyes were so determined.
“Girls like to be treated specially. The fact that you can’t call me by my first name is the point. That’s why I want you to. You took my first kiss, but you won’t treat me specially?”
“T-That’s…”
I was at a loss for words.
Hearing the word “kiss” from Karasuma-san’s mouth made me uneasy, and realizing she was my first made my chest tighten.
“Do you think I’m a girl who kisses just anyone?”
“Of course not.”
“Then prove it. Make it clear that I’m special to you.”
“…If I call you by your first name, it might sound arrogant.”
“You’re the only one who worries about that, Kyosaka. Besides, I’m more of an M, so I kind of want you to take the lead.”
Wait, M as in… masochist?
How am I supposed to take this revelation? Maybe there’s no right way.
I’ve never had a girlfriend in elementary, middle, or high school, so I don’t really understand how to interact with or approach girls.
Skipping all the usual steps, I ended up involved with three girls, and now I wish I could take a crash course on relationships.
I should have been more careful and considerate.
It’s a bit late, but if it’s not too late, I want to face Karasuma-san properly.
After all, taking her first kiss but not being able to call her by her name is pretty insincere.
(Sorry, Tsu-chan and Sakura…)
Taking a step forward is up to me.
“So, um, nice to meet you again, Chikage.”
“Call me Chikage again.”
“Uh, ah.”
“Come on, repeat after me.”
“C-Chikage.”
“Waa… this really hits hard.”
It hit me hard too. I could tell Chikage was smiling widely behind her mask.
*
(Oh… this is bad.)
Seeing Chikage’s bright, shining eyes, I instinctively realized this.
If I don’t change the topic, I might get eaten alive. Basically, I felt like a prey sensing a predator. In other words, Chikage was scaring me.
Well, basically, I’m just a scaredy-cat!
“Um, we should probably head back. PE class is about to start.”
“Wait, Kyosaka. No, Kei. Don’t go.”
Chikage hugged me tightly from behind.
The soft feeling of her chest pressed against my back.
“You know, Kei.”
Chikage’s whisper weakened my resolve.
“Let’s go somewhere else and continue from where we left off. Let’s skip class. Come on, it’ll be fun.”
“Calm down, Chikage. We can do plenty of that after school, right?”
“I’m asking now because I can’t wait. Do you really want to make me say all this? Is it wrong to want to be close to the boy I like?”
“No, it’s not that…”
“Then it’s fine, right?”
Chikage adjusted her mask, bringing her perfect lips close to my ear, and whispered sweetly. My brain was sounding alarms, but I couldn’t resist.
This was exactly what it felt like to be utterly captivated. It wasn’t the first time Chikage and I had done this, and it wasn’t the first time at school either. Just yesterday, I was with Sakura in the library. But skipping class for it was a first.
This one time felt like it could turn into a never-ending habit.
I felt like there was no turning back.
I was a little, no, very anxious.
…But I also wanted to respond to Chikage’s sincere feelings.
I made up my mind, turned around, and wrapped my arms around Chikage’s slender waist, gently holding her soft warmth close.
