Chapter 06: The Start of Being a Kept Man, Part 2
I never imagined I’d be cooking dinner for six people.
It was for me, my sister, and our dad, plus Karasuma-san, Ono-san, and Daigo-san. Since Dad comes home late, I could just store the leftovers in the fridge and reheat them for him later
I originally planned to make nikujaga(meat and potato stew), but given the amount needed, I decided to switch to curry.
The ingredients were pork, onions, potatoes, and carrots. I used a store-bought roux that I had in stock.
I’m not skilled enough to make curry from scratch with spices, so my current cooking skills wouldn’t be able to satisfy everyone.
But isn’t it common to make curry at home using store-bought roux?
With that thought, let’s start cooking.
Before long, the spicy aroma of curry filled the house.
I scooped some curry with a spoon and tasted it.
“Yep.”
Even though the simmering time was short, it tasted great. In the living room, Daigo-san and my sister were watching a variety show.
(They’re really fitting in…)
More than the curry, I was intrigued by how Daigo-san and Akari were chatting so cheerfully.
“It feels like Okeihan, doesn’t it?”
“Yeah, really… No Fire Stick or game consoles, it feels untouched by the outside world.”
Karasuma-san and Ono-san, both wearing aprons, made comments that made me smile wryly.
I knew about those things, but I intentionally didn’t have them. Watching streaming sites on TV or subscribing to monthly services could let us watch tons of anime and new movies, but I wanted to avoid options that might make us lazy. That’s why I also avoided buying game consoles.
Karasuma-san and Ono-san looked around the house with interest.
We lived in a 2DK apartment with separate bath and toilet.
The kitchen had a two-burner stove, and we had a small refrigerator. It was cramped for three people, but it was definitely not the prefab shack that some classmates imagined.
There’s a saying, “Home is where you make it,” and I liked this place.
I wasn’t sure how Akari felt about it, though.
“The layout is nice, and it has character.”
“It’s got charm.”
“Sorry it’s so cramped. Shall we eat?”
“That’s not what I meant.”
“Tsukasa tends to be like this. Sorry, Kyosaka.”
“Why does it sound like I’m the bad guy!?”
Ono-san, despite her gyaru-like appearance, often ended up being the one people teased, which was a bit amusing.
Her reactions and comebacks were perfectly timed, making me think she was used to being teased.
“Sorry for dropping by unexpectedly, Kyosaka-kun.”
“No worries. Daigo-san, you came to deliver the notebook, right?”
Seeing Daigo-san looking apologetic, I tried to reassure her.
Today, instead of her usual blazer, she was wearing a light pink cardigan, which seemed to emphasize her ample chest more than usual.
Honestly, the one I had the most trouble figuring out where to look was Daigo-san.
To hide my embarrassment, I turned my gaze to the TV. Comedians on a variety show were making everyone laugh.
“Sorry, everyone. It’s cramped, so please sit close together.”
I served the rice, poured the curry, put the plates on a tray, and brought them to the living room.
We all put our hands together and said, “Itadakimasu.”
“This is delicious… It has a homely taste.”
“Yummy! Okeihan, your cooking skills are amazing.”
“Yeah, it’s tasty.”
Seeing the three of them eating so happily made me incredibly happy as the cook.
“Onii-chan, it’s lively today, isn’t it?”
“Yeah, we usually eat just the two of us, so it feels even livelier.”
“Right? I’m so surprised that you have three cute friends over.”
“Yeah, I’m probably the most surprised.”
It’s strange.
Having dinner with the three most beautiful girls in school at my own house—
I had topped everyone’s curry with melting cheese.
Lately, I’ve been into adding little touches to make dishes look more luxurious, like shredded nori on ramen or bonito flakes on yakisoba.
“Cute… but I think Akari-chan is cuter.”
“Thank you. Chikage-san, you have a very elegant look.”
“Thanks! You’re really cute.”
“What about me?”
“Tsukasa-san, you have a very energetic vibe.”
“Full of energy? Anything else?”
“That’s all.”
“That’s it!?”
“Oh, you don’t have to rate me.”
“Sakurako-san, you’re the most beautiful girl with glasses I’ve ever seen.”
“What a good sister. Well done.”
Akari was chatting normally with everyone besides me… Daigo-san, Karasuma-san, and Ono-san were flawless beauties. Being surrounded by these three, I thought she might be a bit more flustered, but my sister seemed to be more socially adept than I was.
The conversation flowed smoothly as we ate dinner, and Karasuma-san occasionally took off her mask, revealing her beautiful face.
(This is kind of fun…)
However, it seemed like my sister had been completely won over. They persuaded her that if she got a job, she should choose one with the highest pay.
I wished they wouldn’t turn Akari into a realist.
I think dreamers have more potential for growth.
When I hinted at this indirectly, Akari replied with a surprisingly calm comeback, “It’s my brother who can’t dream if he’s turning down such good opportunities.”
Yeah, she might be right.
With my beloved sister’s approval, I decided to take the part-time job that the three of them suggested, starting the next day.

The next morning.
As soon as I entered the classroom, Daigo-san waved me over. With the eyes of my classmates on me, I walked over to her.
Karasuma-san and Ono-san were also nearby, and I felt a little nervous.
“Good morning, Kyosaka-kun. Thanks for the curry yesterday.”
“Thanks for the meal!”
“Okeihan, your curry was super delicious. Make it again sometime.”
With the three most beautiful girls in school praising me like that, the classroom naturally erupted into chaos.
“T-Thank you for the praise.”
I said, bowing deeply.
“Why are you thanking us?”
“People usually don’t.”
“Well, that’s Okeihan quality for you.”
Quality… It felt like they were treating me more casually.
Well, maybe it’s fair for a background character like me… but the stares from my classmates were intense.
(Sigh…)
Trying to stay low-key, I moved through the classroom and nervously took my seat.
