Chapter 07: The Start of Being a Kept Man, Part 3
After school, I headed straight to my part-time job.
Ono-san’s apartment, where she lives alone, is four train stations away from school, so I decided to take the train.
As the train rattled along, I clung to the handrail, feeling a sense of unease about what was to come.
Eventually, I arrived at my destination.
Wah. Amazing.
This isn’t a rental but a condo.
The exterior looked very luxurious, close to the station, and probably has high rent. There was even an auto-lock entrance, making the security top-notch. Apparently, Ono-san’s apartment is on the top floor.
I got into the elevator with the three beauties from school and headed to the top floor.
With a ding, the elevator doors opened.
Following the three of them down the hallway as they were familiar with the place, Ono-san stopped at a corner room. She inserted a key into the push-pull door handle and opened the door.
“Come on in.”
“T-Thank you for having me.”
Nervously, I stepped into Ono-san’s apartment.
The layout was 4LDK. The entrance had a shoe closet filled with cute sneakers, indicating Ono-san’s love for shoes at a glance.
The living room had a plush leather sofa. The curtains and furniture were mostly white and black, giving the place a clean, stylish, and sophisticated look.
(Something about this is making me nervous…)
“Okeihan, don’t be shy. Come on, have a seat.”
“Oh, okay.”
Encouraged by Ono-san, I sat down on the sofa.
“Tsukasa, what do you want to eat?”
“The usual. And bring something for Okeihan too.”
Karasuma-san and Daigo-san, who were rummaging through the fridge like they were at home, brought over a tray with juice and macarons to the table.
“I got you orange juice. Would you have preferred cola or something?”
“No, this is fine. Thank you.”
Feeling shy as Karasuma-san looked into my face, I placed my hands on my knees and lowered my head.
Thump thump… My heart was pounding.
A mix of nervousness and gratitude made my blood circulate through my body like heated magma.
“Kyosaka-kun, don’t hesitate to eat.”
“Oh, okay. Thanks.”
Daigo-san pointed at the macarons on the plate, so I picked one up and popped it into my mouth.
“Wow, it’s delicious.”
The taste was excellent, and it looked beautiful too.
Colorful and luxurious, these macarons would look amazing stuck to the chimney of a gingerbread house.
“Kyosaka, are you nervous?”
Karasuma-san sat next to me naturally and asked,
Ono-san sat beside her, and Daigo-san sat across from me.
“Yeah, a little. I’m not used to talking with classmates like this.”
Feeling a bit overwhelmed by the surreal experience of being surrounded by three beautiful girls, I decided to ask about the job they suggested.
“So, what exactly should I do? Today was supposed to be just for observation, right?”
“After school, we’ll meet at Tsukasa’s place, and then stay here until night. That’s pretty much the job.”
“Just meet up after school?”
“You’re making it sound easy, Okeihan. That’s the hardest part, you know?”
Ono-san grinned.
“What do you mean?”
“Except for weekends, you’ll be with us until night. Saying it is easy, but it’s going to be pretty tough.”
Daigo-san added.
“…”
When I fell silent, Karasuma-san continued.
“But we’ll adjust the job to fit your condition, Kyosaka. So don’t worry about that.”
“Oh, okay.”
From the way the three of them talked, it seemed certain that I’d have a tough time.
They didn’t seem to realize that this “tough time” was filled with a boy’s dreams and hopes. Neither Ono-san, Karasuma-san, nor Daigo-san seemed aware of it.
You could call it low self-esteem, but the phrase “always with the three most beautiful girls in school” was like a punch to the gut for someone like me, who sees himself as just a background character.
To put it mildly, it was “paradise.”
Because of this, when they described it as if it was like forced labor in an underground facility, it felt like there was a disconnect in our understanding, making me feel a bit guilty.
From my perspective, it was a great opportunity…
But still, this part-time job—what’s in it for Karasuma-san and the others?
“Then, um, how about I help with cleaning and other chores so I don’t get in the way?”
“Really? That’d be a huge help. Chikage and Sakurako never clean.”
“Yeah, I’m not good at cleaning either.”
“Me neither.”
Ono-san frowned at the two of them for their refusal to clean.
Maybe Ono-san had to deal with a lot.
Just doing cleaning and chores for 5000 yen an hour, and with beautiful girls around too.
I still couldn’t believe such a godsend opportunity. Everyone said they wanted to support me, but I knew I couldn’t just rely on their kindness.
I decided to give my all in doing whatever I could.
*
“Anyone want to go to the convenience store?”
“I’ll go.”
“Hmm… I’ll stay here with Kyosaka.”
“Hey Chikage, don’t do anything weird to Okeihan, okay?”
Ono-san said, giving Karasuma-san a warning look.
“Weird things?”
“You know, like, it’s not good for Okeihan and Chikage to be alone together.”
What Ono-san meant by “not good” was something that any teenager would think about. But I felt like I was the one who needed to be careful.
Karasuma-san thought for a moment, then smiled behind her mask.
“Oh, don’t worry. I won’t do anything sneaky.”
“Okay, then that’s fine. Do you two want anything?”
“Hmm… then get me a sandwich with roast beef.”
“Ugh, that’s only at Oku Seven. What about you, Okeihan?”
“Can I? Then I’ll leave it to you and Daigo-san to choose for me.”
Ono-san made a peace sign with her right hand and smiled before grabbing her wallet and standing up.
Just before leaving the room, she gave Karasuma-san another look.
I understood it as a warning, and Karasuma-san, looking a bit annoyed, nodded.
I was now alone with Karasuma-san.
Oh no, my heart won’t stop pounding.
(I guess I should do some work… yeah.)
Just as I stood up, thinking I might as well clean since I wasn’t used to being alone with a girl, Karasuma-san grabbed my arm firmly.
“Where are you going, Kyosaka?”
“Huh, oh.”
—Thud!
She pushed me down onto the sofa and took a mounting position, straddling me.
(…!?)
I couldn’t comprehend what was happening, and my thoughts stopped like a broken pocket watch.
“w-what…?”
“Hmm… I guess I just acted on impulse.”
Karasuma-san’s eyes curved into crescent moons as she slowly brought her face closer and, still wearing her mask, pressed her lips against mine.
(…!?)
I felt a soft sensation through the fabric. The surface of the mask was rough, but underneath, there was a moist softness and a certain warmth.
After about ten seconds, Karasuma-san pulled away. Her eyes, visible above the mask, were teary, and her ears were red.
(Huh… what?)
I really don’t understand what just happened!
“Since I was wearing a mask, it doesn’t count. Kyosaka, have you ever kissed anyone?”
“N-no, never.”
“Me neither… How about we exchange first kisses? Kyosaka, do you want my first kiss?”
With her narrow eyes glistening with a moist intensity, Karasuma-san asked this.
(W-Wait a minute!?)
The situation was changing so quickly that I couldn’t keep up.
W-Why? How did this happen?
I need an explanation!!
Ignoring my confused feelings, Karasuma-san’s eyes gleamed like a predator who had spotted its prey.
