Chapter 31: Just in Time
“No way! Douglas, are you sure about this? It won’t end well if you use a magic sword against an unarmed opponent and lose.”
“You bastard, how dare you say that to me!?”
After I lightly provoked him, unable to control his anger, Douglas attacked me.
For a long time, I had been at the receiving end of his violent outbursts and had to endure them without retaliating, lest it resulted in more aggression from him.
However, I was no longer afraid of his attacks and deftly dodged his punch.
In the first place, having hired a private tutor, he is quite skilled in both magic and swordsmanship, but he lacks unarmed combat skills. With the vast difference in our levels, it was easy to avoid his simple punch by merely swaying backward.
“There’s no way a punch like that would hit a fly. Are you stupid? No, you must be. This duel will demonstrate to the nobles present here that my family is full of imbeciles, and you’ll see how your foolishness will allow me to inherit the Kvist family.”
“Gufu!”
My words infuriated Douglas, and he lunged at me with a punch. I dodged it effortlessly and delivered a blow to his stomach, causing him to double over in agony.
What a pathetic little brother.
“Y-you scum! How dare you attack Douglas before the duel!? That’s a violation of rules, so this duel is cancelled!”
“Hmm? Who was the one foolish enough to strike me twice in the face first? Are you blind, Father? And you should be grateful that I hit him in the stomach and not the face.”
It finally dawned on my father that my little brother was no match for me, and he suggested cancelling the duel. However, I had no intention of giving up that easily.
“Dear Douglas, don’t worry. Mom will use her healing magic to fix you up.”
While my father and I were having this exchange, my mother started using healing magic on Douglas, and when she finishes, we could begin the duel.
As my family was distracted, I saw a flash of anger in Douglas’s eyes, likely from realizing that I had gotten the better of him. It was the perfect opportunity to start the duel.
