Chapter 13: Yui’s Childhood Friend, Someya – Part 2
Someya POV
My name is Someya. I’m the childhood friend of Yui Kondō.
Lately there’s been a rumor that my precious Yui is doing some shady part-time job. She suddenly started wearing stylish clothes, became stunningly beautiful, and her every gesture turned unbelievably sexy.
Everyone at university says it: “Yui’s gotten way too erotic lately.” I think so too. Some guys even say she must have gotten a boyfriend.
And the other rumor: she’s doing suspicious night work. She’s been wearing ridiculously expensive things. She has to be doing something dangerous.
I have to stop her. A flame of justice ignited in my heart.
I started digging around her life. I thought I knew everything about the old Yui, since we were childhood friends, but I know nothing about the current her.
Who she hangs out with, what kind of job she’s doing.
After asking around, I learned she has a friend outside the university: a blonde girl who’s apparently so beautiful it’s unreal, a little younger than Yui. Some guys asked Yui to introduce them and got turned down flat. So nobody knows who this blonde beauty is.
A friend I don’t know about. She might be connected to the shady job.
I tailed Yui for several days and discovered she frequently enters and leaves a certain luxury apartment building in the heart of the city. There’s no way Yui has any business in a high-end place like that. She must be doing her suspicious work there. I followed her for days and this was the only suspicious location.
I wanted to get inside the building, but security is airtight.
No choice. I staked out the place for a while.
One day, Yui came out with a shady-looking guy. The rumored blonde beauty was with them. She really was breathtaking. She’s definitely being tricked by that bad man too. I’ll save both of them. If I do, maybe the blonde will become mine too. My motivation skyrocketed.
That sleazy guy must be using money to manipulate Yui and the blonde. Or maybe he’s got some dirt on them and is blackmailing them. How dare he touch the women who are supposed to be mine someday. Rage boiled up inside me. I clenched my fists.
Then I saw Yui clinging to the guy.
I couldn’t take it anymore. I charged out.
“Get your hands off Yui, you bastard!”
All I could think about was punching him. This was a punch of justice. To protect Yui from a bad man. I used my running momentum to swing.
And then,
“OWWWWWWWWW!!!!!”
My fist hurt like hell. It felt like I’d punched a solid block of iron with everything I had. Unbelievably hard. The guy I was supposed to hit just stood there blankly, clearly not understanding what was happening. He didn’t even look like it hurt.
And at some point, the blonde girl had stepped between us. She had thrust her forehead right into the path of my punch. Apparently I hit her forehead.
“Why the hell did you get in the way?! That guy’s the villain!”
“Master is the villain? Exactly what has he done?”
“He’s using money to force Yui into doing horrible things!”
“Horrible things? There is no such fact.”
“You just don’t know!”
“Then you do know? Do you have evidence? Or did Yui tell you herself?”
“No…”
I was at a loss for words. I had no proof. Yui never said anything like that.
“Let me tell you something. The one doing bad things here is you. In a nation of laws, ‘bad’ means breaking the law. Without any solid evidence, you unilaterally decided Master was evil and tried to punch him. If that’s not evil, what is?”
“That’s not it! He is a bad guy! I have to separate Yui from him no matter what! You should stop protecting a guy like that too!”
“That’s just what you want to believe. If Master really were evil, you should have called the police. Or a lawyer. The law would punish him. If you think the law itself is wrong, gather signatures and campaign to change it. But instead you tried to solve it with violence. If that’s not evil, what is? And even if you’d landed the punch, it would only make you feel better. Nothing would be solved. What exactly did you want to accomplish? You just wanted to hit Master because he pissed you off, right?”
I was completely overwhelmed by the blonde girl’s tirade and couldn’t say anything back.
“I’m doing this because I want to. Stop interfering. I need the money. And also…”
Yui was staring at the shady guy with feverish, lustful eyes. Her every gesture was dripping with sensuality. It made me feel sick.
“If it’s money, I’ll—”
“You can’t. Do you have any idea how much my sister’s heart transplant costs?”
“How much?”
“One billion yen.”
“Ha-ha-ha-ha! Finally the truth comes out! There’s no way a loser like him has that kind of money! Wake up!”
“What are you talking about? I’ve already received quite a lot.”
“Damn it, I knew it! That guy’s definitely a criminal! He must have earned that money through illegal means! Using dirty money to chain Yui down! And if he’s got that much cash, he should just pay for the surgery himself!”
