- Chapter 59 - Harem Survival - Battle for Survival Part 5 (Thirteenth Person)
“Hayasaka-kun! W-what…a ghost here!? A real one!?”
“It’s real, Chitose!”
Chitose and Momose jumped toward me, and I hugged them both. As I thought, the communication on that transceiver had connected.
“I’m so glad! I was all alone with Chitose-chan, and it was so lonely.”
“Momose, you did well.”
Both of them had tears welling up at the corners of their eyes.
They must have been really scared.
Of course, being in a cave like this, it’s mentally exhausting. If you were claustrophobic, you’d go mad for sure.
After a while, I managed to calm the two down.
During that time, Kitakami, standing coolly with her arms crossed, opened her mouth.
“Why are the two of you in such a cave?”
Chitose answered that question.
“Yesterday, we got on the boat…then the waves swept us away…when we woke up, we were here. It was so scary.”
“It was reckless, wasn’t it? But I didn’t expect we’d be swept onto an island. The power of nature is terrifying…Hmm.”
Kitakami muttered, looking at Momose’s condition in surprise.
“So, what are we going to do now?”
Everyone looked down slightly.
Yeah, that’s the problem.
In a huge cave like this…who knows where the exit is? The depths are pitch dark, ruled by a dreadful abyss.
One wrong move, and we could be attacked by blood-sucking bats, drained of our blood, and that would be the end of us.
Though, they say blood-sucking bats are quite rare.
“Do you have any way to contact someone?”
“It’s impossible, Sasayama-san. Only Chitose and I have transceivers, and our phones have no signal. There’s no reception. The signal in this cave is the worst.”
That leaves us with no choice but to move forward.
Or, we could go back to where Yamada and Akira were. But that’s not an option. If we meet them again, we’ll end up fighting. And if that happens, it’ll be a fight to the death.
“Let’s hurry ahead.”
“Yeah, Kitakami-san. I agree. It’s a shame, but we’ll have to use the flashlight.”
“In that case, using the phone’s light might be better. We can recharge it with a mobile battery later.”
“Let’s do that. If the battery dies, we’ll take turns shining the light.”
Everyone nodded in agreement.
We need to escape before the phone batteries run out.
If they die, we’ll be in total darkness.
I turned on the light and took the lead.
That’s when it happened.
“Ahh!!”
Kitakami and the others shouted.
Curious, I turned around, and it looked like they were staring at my phone.
“What’s wrong, everyone?”
“Hayasaka-kun, exchange Line contacts with me!”
That was Chitose’s request.
Then Momose and Sasayama followed suit.
Even Kitakami joined in.
“Seriously!? But we can’t communicate right now. All I can do is give you my ID or phone number.”
“That’s good enough!”
Kitakami’s eyes sparkled.
Why is she so excited!? Well, it’s fine, I guess.
I gave everyone my phone number.
“070-XXXX-XXXX…”
“Wow, Hayasaka-kun, you’re using a 070 number?”
Chitose blinked in surprise.
Oh, right, I’ve heard you can somewhat tell someone’s generation by whether they use ‘090’ or ‘080.’ ‘090’ has been around for twenty years, so people say it’s for the older generation.
‘080’ is a bit old, but ‘070’ is particularly recent.
“I just got my phone contract recently.”
To be honest, it’s also because I was such a loner. But that’s something I’d never say.
“I see. But I’m glad we exchanged contacts.”
“Yeah, we can exchange numbers at least.”
I was happy to have more girls’ contact info. Something like this might never happen again.
After exchanging numbers, we moved forward.
—
The rocky terrain made walking difficult.
We kept climbing up and down.
How far does this underground cave go?
We’ve been walking for over thirty minutes since then.
But we still haven’t seen any light.
Only darkness stretches on.
—Wait a minute.
I licked my index finger and held it up.
“That’s kind of a cute pose.”
“Momose, I’m checking for wind.”
“Wind?”
“Yeah, by doing this, I can sense it…Yep, there’s a faint breeze.”
“Huh? So that means?”
“There might be an exit somewhere.”
“Whoa!”
Not just Momose, but everyone exclaimed.
They’re all looking at me with such sparkling eyes that I feel a bit embarrassed.
As we ventured further, we reached a dead end.
“…I see. So that’s how it is.”
“What do you mean, Kitakami-san?”
“We fell into this cave due to a landslide. In other words, landslides occur frequently here.”
“Wha—!? So, the exit is blocked?”
“It’s possible.”
—Wait, does that mean we can’t get out!?
Just as I was holding my head in despair, the ceiling suddenly cracked and started collapsing. …What!?
‘Rumble, CRASHHH…’
“Everyone, move away!”
I got everyone to take cover.
Thanks to my precise instructions, we avoided being buried alive. That was close. But still, what was that sudden collapse?
When I looked up, there was light.
“It’s the outside…”
Sasayama muttered.
The light spread, becoming brighter and brighter.
That’s definitely daylight!
But…who made this hole?
“…Tetsu-kun, someone’s coming down from above.”
Kitakami pointed her gun upward.
Seriously?
I debated whether I should be on guard too…Hm?
Descending from a rope was an unfamiliar girl.
She’s in a school uniform…but who is she?
As I stood dumbfounded, the girl glared at me and yelled.
“Are you Kurashima!?”
“…Huh!? What!?”
“Without question, I’ll cut you down! Die!!”
The girl, mistaking me for Kurashima, came at me with a kukri knife. You’ve got to be kidding me!
But Kitakami stepped in to shield me, catching the kukri knife with her own.
“Are you alright, Tetsu-kun?”
“Why didn’t you use the gun?”
“I don’t want to create unnecessary corpses, and I don’t want to waste bullets.”
Kitakami coolly swung her knife, deflecting the kukri. As usual, she’s a beast.
“…Tch! Who are you?”
“Who are you, attacking us so suddenly?”
“I am Kusamochi Yomogi. I’m here to avenge my friend…to kill Kurashima!”
Y-Yomogi!?
Could she be Riko’s friend…?
She’s on this island too.
