- I Was Stranded on a Deserted Island with a Beautiful Classmate
- Chapter 3 - The Blonde Girl
A black shadow darted out, and I quickly moved to protect Amane.
But I was relieved when I saw it wasn’t a fierce bear. That would’ve been seriously bad.
However, it was something terrifying in a different way.
“Amane, it’s a snake! And not just any snake…it’s a giant one!”
“No, no, no! I can’t handle snakes!! Hayasaka-kun, help me…!!”
Amane clung to me. She pressed her body against mine with all her strength, and for a moment, I felt like I was in heaven. But there was no time to enjoy that.
That thing could easily be poisonous. If it bites us, we’re in serious trouble.
“I think Aodaisho snakes aren’t venomous, but unfortunately, I’m not a snake expert.”
“What should we do!? Run?”
“Stay calm, Amane. It’s better to remain still in situations like this.”
“But…but…”
“Or we could kill it and use it for food.”
“What? Eat a snake? No way!!”
Amane rejected the idea with all her might.
I thought so. But snakes are a valuable source of protein.
It’s a little cruel, but it’s for survival.
I prepared myself to deal with it.
“Stay back, Amane. I’ll handle the snake.”
“Handle it? What are you planning to do?”
“We don’t know when help will come, so I’m going to secure some food. I don’t have a knife, but I can use a large rock.”
“No, no, nooo!!”
With tears in her eyes, Amane screamed and grabbed my hand. Then, like a racehorse, she sprinted away from the scene. She’s fast!
Before I realized it, we had entered a wooded area. Actually, it was more like a forest now.
If we keep going like this, we might get lost, or worse, run into another dangerous animal.
“Hey, Amane…”
“…”
When I looked closely at her face, I saw she was crying.
Was she that scared of the snake?
It seemed Amane was purer than I thought.
Well, for a girl, something like that is terrifying. I wasn’t thinking about her feelings at all. I was too insensitive.
“I-I’m sorry. I was too focused on surviving and didn’t think about how you felt.”
“I was scared…”
“What?”
“I was really scared…”
She hugged me again and cried, and my mind went blank. Amane, who always seemed so strong, was suddenly so small.
Ugh, if this goes on any longer, I won’t be able to take it.
“Ah, Amane. For now, let’s prioritize finding water.”
“…Okay.”
Amane let go of me, her cheeks bright red. My heart was racing too.
I’d never had a girl hug me twice in my life. For the first time, I felt lucky to have been stranded.
“Let’s try going deeper into the forest. We don’t have any other option.”
“Is that really okay…?”
“There are more risks, but there are also benefits.”
“Like what?”
“We’ll have a higher chance of finding water.”
“Water…now that you mention it, I’m thirsty.”
“Then let’s keep moving.”
The place looked like a dense jungle, and the humidity was high. That’s a good sign for finding water.
We pushed through the forest. The thick foliage blocked our way, which was annoying.
If only I had a knife…
Since I didn’t, I picked up a sturdy branch to use as a replacement.
After about fifteen minutes of pushing through the undergrowth, we came to an area that looked like rocky terrain. It was a bit more open.
“Hey, Hayasaka-kun. Look at that hole…!”
“Yeah! That’s definitely a cave.”
“Does that mean we can use it as a base!?”
Amane happily ran toward it, but I stopped her.
“Wait, Amane.”
“What? It looks safe enough to rest in.”
“This island is full of dangers. We just ran into a snake, remember? Did you already forget?”
“Ugh…you’re right. So, is there something dangerous in the cave?”
“Of course. If it’s not a cave but a den, we’re in big trouble.”
“A den…you mean, like…”
“Yes, it could be home to snakes or bears. At the very least, there are probably bats.”
When I explained, Amane froze. She was clearly scared.
Honestly, I was nervous too. Caves can be home to wild animals. Please, no bears.
“What should we do?”
“In situations like this, we use a stone.”
I picked up a rock from the ground and threw it into the cave.
The small stone flew through the air and hit the cave walls, making a clattering noise.
Now we just had to listen for any signs of animals inside.
“…It seems quiet.”
Amane muttered softly. It looked like the cave was safe.
“Okay, let’s go in. But just in case, we should pick up some thick branches and small stones. They can be used as weapons. Here, Amane, take one too. It’s better than nothing.”
“Okay.”
I gave Amane a small stone. We should use whatever we can, even if it’s just a rock.
We cautiously entered the cave.
There was still no sign of any animals.
“I’ll check it out. You wait here, Amane.”
“No way. I’m scared. I’ll follow you.”
“I guess I have no choice. At least hold my hand then.”
“Idiot…”
She didn’t hold my hand, but she grabbed onto the hem of my shirt instead. Her face was bright red…such a tsundere.
Anyway, I needed to make sure it was safe.
As we moved forward…
Huh?
I thought I saw something flash.
Was it my imagination?
As I inched closer, something suddenly jumped out from behind a rock.
Oh crap, is it a bear this time!?
The small figure leaped at me, knocking me to the ground.
“Gah! Is it a cub!? Damn it, I’ll have to gouge out its eyes if—wait, what?”
When I looked closer, I realized a knife was pressed against my throat.
Someone who can handle a knife…must be human.
“Looks like I was wrong. It’s just Hayasaka-kun and Amane from our class.”
A girl with big, bright eyes looked down at me. I didn’t recognize her.
“Who are you? Wait, there’s another survivor!?”
While I was still in shock, Amane called out the girl’s name.
“No way…Kitakami-san!!”
“It’s been a day, Amane-san. I’m glad to have found a friend.”
“More importantly, could you put the knife away? Hayasaka-kun is in trouble.”
“In trouble? He seems pretty happy though.”
Well, what guy wouldn’t be happy with a blonde beauty sitting on top of him?
…Not to mention, she’s soft.
I was seriously surprised.
To think a classmate had also washed ashore on this island.
