Chapter 3 – Best Friend Strategy
And so the Momoiro Academy entrance ceremony began.
(T/N: Momoiro Gakuen translates to Momoiro School or Academy. I’ll use Academy when it’s talking about the school, not the manga name.)
It felt strange to have been in my second year of high school in my original world, yet I’m attending another entrance ceremony.
I glanced ahead of me.
Right in front of me was Takanashi, the main character of “Momoiro Gakuen Girls.”
And a little behind him was my favorite heroine, Momozono-san.
My heart wouldn’t stop pounding.
Who would have expected things to end up like this?
“Now, we will have a greeting from the chairman of the academy and principal, Chabatake Masato-san.”
Along with the students’ applause, a flashy man with tanned skin and wearing a bright red suit and sunglasses appeared.
It was Chabatake Masato, the famous macho principal of Momoiro Academy.
Maybe it’s because this principal has a strong personality, but for some reason he’s incredibly popular despite being a side character. It’s really a mystery. He was ranked ninth in the popularity poll, higher than Momozono-san.
“Hey everyone, are you enjoying your youth? High school is all about youth, and youth is life. And life is muscle training, so——”
While the muscular principal was making his incomprehensible speech, I decided to come up with a plan to get Takanashi and Momozono-san together.
The first thing that came to mind was to keep an eye on the two of them close by and keep the other heroines from getting close to Takanashi. In fact, that was the only plan I could think of.
To do that, I’d need to be by Takanashi’s side at all times.
I glanced behind me. There was a dull guy with glasses, Yamada.
That guy is Takanashi’s best friend character and, in the end, ends up with Momozono-san——He’s my sworn enemy.
My first mission is to outwit him and take on the role of Takanashi’s best friend.
I’m sure that in the original, Takanashi and Yamada became best friends after talking in the hallway on the way back from the entrance ceremony.
That meant that my plan would start with interrupting Yamada from speaking to Takanashi.
Luckily, we’re lined up in attendance order, so I’m standing right behind Takanashi—prime positioning!
From this position, I should be able to outmaneuver Yamada, who’s at the back of the line, and become Takanashi’s best friend!
I stared intently at Takanashi’s back.
I only have one chance. If I act too late now, all my plans would be ruined. I have to act carefully and quickly.
I gulped and swallowed.
When the principal’s lengthy speech came to an end, the students began to file back to their classrooms.
——Now’s the time!
“Ummm——Aaahh!”
I pushed aside Yamada, who was trying to talk to Takanashi, and forced an arm around Takanashi’s shoulders.
“Hey. I’m Takeda Tatsuya. What’s your name? And you? Which junior high did you go to? Wanna be friends?”
I rattled off my introduction all at once, and instantly regretted it.
Damn. Maybe I got a little too familiar. I probably came off as some kind of sleazy guy.
Takanashi looked at me blankly, then gave me a friendly smile.
“I’m Takanashi Itsuki. I went to Higashi Junior High. Thanks for talking to me. I’d love to be friends.”
In my mind, I was pumping my fist in victory.
Yes, mission successful!
It’s perfect.
I was intoxicated by the perfection of my plan.
Great, now I can take the position of Takanashi’s best friend.
“Okay, then it’s settled. We’re best friends!”
I held out my right hand.
“Eh, best friends?”
Takanashi tilted his head.
Ah, crap. Was I being too forward again?
A cold sweat ran down my back.
What should I do, my intention of becoming best friends may have actually made him like me less.
However, after Takanashi looked confused for a moment, he then flashed a refreshing smile and shook my hand back.
“Yeah, okay. If you’re okay with me, let’s be best friends.”
Wow.
I felt like a halo was shining behind Takanashi, and sparkling flowers and star effects were dancing in the air.
Seriously, he’s so dazzling. What a nice guy. Just as I expected from the protagonist Takanashi.
Takanashi’s smile was so bright that I nearly got dizzy.
I generally don’t like the protagonists of harem stories, but for some reason I just can’t bring myself to hate Takanashi.
He’s a gentleman and a kind person, and yet he’s proactive when he needs to, has a passionate heart, and apart from the fact that he ranked higher than Momozono-san in the popularity poll, he’s the perfect protagonist.
And now that I’m seeing Takanashi in person, even though he claimed to be “just an ordinary high school student,” he’s actually pretty handsome.
He’s not quite at the level of a model or actor, but easily one of the top two or three in class. No wonder he’s popular.
But then again, I guess he’d have to be at least that good to be with Momozono-san.
I shot a quick glance at Momozono-san.
Momozono-san was walking down the hallway alone, looking anxious.
Ah, Momozono, just wait. I’ll make sure you end up with Takanashi!
Meanwhile, somewhere behind me, I could hear a weird, nerdy voice muttering, “Grr… I’ll remember this!”
But it was probably just my imagination.
◇ ◇ ◇
T/N: Damn, MC making a friend and an enemy at the same time… I assume that MC retained his name and family too, just that he moved to a different world. It hasn’t been mentioned so far.
Anyway, this novel will be slightly erotic based on the interaction of the few chapters I’ve read, but I haven’t read that far ahead so I don’t know if it’ll be lewder or not.
