Chapter 20 – Not Everything Goes as Planned
Oh no, this is bad.
Before I knew it, the choices have been narrowed down to Momotaro or Cinderella.
Ugh…
I secretly bit my lower lip.
At this point, Cinderella is better because it has a dance scene.
I made a difficult decision.
I have no choice, I’ll vote for Cinderella.
“In that case, I think Cinderella is good. After all, Cinderella and her two sisters can all wear dresses!”
Mikan raised her hand.
Good, goooooood. (T/N: Insert Palpatine gif)
As expected, girls really do love dresses.
Well, maybe it’s just that Cinderella is a better option than playing a monkey or a pheasant.
Rinko-senpai took the vote.
“So, who prefers Momotaro?”
Silence.
“Who prefers Cinderella?”
Everyone raised their hands.
And so, the play was decided to be Cinderella.
I breathed a sigh of relief.
It seems the worst-case scenario has been averted, but——
A bead of sweat ran down my cheek.
Why? It’s different from the original Momogaku story.
Could it be that the addition of more club members has changed the plot?!
Damn, even if it’s for Momozono-san’s sake, I’ve stirred things up too much.
Oh well.
Let’s make a comeback from here.
Now that it’s come to this, I’m definitely going to make Momozono-san Cinderella and Takanashi the prince.
I grinned as I imagined their romantic dance scene.
“Now for the casting. Is there anyone who wants to volunteer?”
Rinko-senpai looked all over us, but no one raised their hand.
Good, goooood.
In this case, I’ll nominate Momozono-san for Cinderella and Takanashi for the prince.
However, Mikan quickly raised her hand.
“Yes! I think Ikkun should be the prince.”
Oh, Mikan. Nice assist!
I knew you were the kind of woman who could do it.
Now all that’s left is the role of Cinderella.
Hehehe, just you wait, Momozono-san. I’m going to recommend you as Cinderella now!
Suddenly, Momozono-san timidly raised her hand.
“Um, I think Yuu-chan would be a good choice for the role of Cinderella.”
Huh?
I instinctively dropped the chalk I was holding in my hand.
Whaaat?! Huuhhh?!!
“Well, it’s true that Yuu-chan is the smallest among the girls. It would be weird for her to play the sister or mother role.”
Yamada agreed.
Oi, Yamada, stop saying unnecessary things!
“Hmm, it’s true. Cinderella is supposed to have the smallest feet of all her sisters.”
Even Mikan reluctantly agreed.
Huh, what’s wrong, Mikan? Aren’t you devoted to Takanashi??
Are you okay with Yuu-chan taking Takanashi away from you?!
“What do you think, Yuu-chan?”
Takanashi asked Yuu-chan.
As I stared at Yuu-chan, she looked down in confusion.
“I’ve never played a leading role before… and it might be a little embarrassing.”
Y-you’re right!
There’s no way Yuu-chan would want to stand out like playing a leading role!
Refuse. Refuse it, Yuu-chan!
“What do you think, Tatsuya?”
And at this point, for some reason, Yuu-chan started talking to me.
“Hmm, me? …Ah, I suppose so. You’re cute, and I think Cinderella would suit you, but if you don’t want to do it, then force yourself——”
“I’m not forcing myself.”
Yuu-chan said in a small voice.
“If Tatsuya thinks I can do it, then I’ll try my best.”
Huh?! Why is this happening?!
“Oh, yeah… Then do your best… I know you can do it…”
There was no way I could outright say no, so I reluctantly encouraged Yuu-chan.
I had done my best to break the flag between Takanashi and Yuu-chan, so how did it end up like this?
In the end, the cast for the play was decided as follows:
・Cinderella: Yuu-chan
・Prince: Takanashi
・The Magician: Momozono-san
・Wicked stepmother: Yamada
・Wicked older sister 1: Rinko-senpai
・Wicked older sister 2: Mikan
・Prince’s attendant, pumpkin carriage: me
By the way, I ended up being the director, Takanashi the scriptwriter, and the others would handle the stage props, equipment, and costumes.
In the original, Takanashi was the director and scriptwriter, but this time, I have the mission to keep Takanashi and Yuu-chan from getting together more than necessary, so I volunteered to be the director.
It was the least I could do.
But seriously, what if this leads to Takanashi and Yuu-chan becoming closer?
I really want Momozono-san and Takanashi to get together, but why is nothing going the way I want it to?!
