ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー
“…Fine. But I won’t wait any longer. If you forget again tomorrow, you’ll have to submit it to the teacher yourself. Hmph.”
Tap tap tap…
I told Kuze-kun that and quickly returned to my seat. I was the class representative for this class, and the homeroom teacher had asked me the other day to collect the class’s field trip survey forms. I had already received all the forms from the other students, so only Kuze-kun’s form was left.
But Kuze-kun was a delinquent who never came to school, and I thought it was pointless to keep waiting for him, so I had been considering submitting it to the teacher myself… And then, surprisingly, Kuze-kun had come to school again after a long time.
And it’s the first time he’s come two days in a row…
So I thought that if he continued coming to school, it would be best to tell him about the survey form properly, and that was what I did. Even so, I honestly thought it was probably pointless since Kuze-kun would stop coming again soon. But…
“Ah, yeah. Got it. Sorry for the trouble. I’ll definitely hand it to you tomorrow morning.”
Contrary to my expectations, Kuze-kun said he would properly submit it tomorrow. I was a little surprised to hear that.
“…Hmph. But will he really come?”
Sure, I was a little surprised, but I didn’t trust Kuze-kun’s words at all. After all, he was a delinquent. He had never come to school for an entire week straight. He was completely hopeless.
“Hmph. I knew he wouldn’t come anyway. I might as well just submit it to the teacher tomorrow morning.”
I muttered that as I continued stuffing textbooks into my school bag. Since there was no way Kuze-kun would come to school, I’d submit the survey to the teacher first thing tomorrow morning.
From the flow of events, it was clear that I really disliked Kuze-kun. Causing trouble for others was the worst behavior, and I absolutely hated people who did that. Moreover, Kuze-kun had a lot of bad rumors about him. That he extorted underclassmen, drank alcohol, smoked, gambled, went to clubs, and played with girls… I had only heard bad things about him.
A student’s main duty was studying, and yet he spent his time doing all these bad things instead of studying. That was absolutely unforgivable. So I really hated Kuze-kun. And I assumed the rest of the class felt the same way. I could hear little snippets of conversations around the classroom, with students looking at him with fear or disgust. Naturally, the students wouldn’t want a violent delinquent in their classroom.
Anyway, I didn’t really believe that Kuze-kun would continue coming to school… But if he did, it would be best to keep my distance. I didn’t want to get involved in something weird.
“Phew. Well then, now that I’m done with Kuze-kun… Ah, there you are. Hey, Kakeru!”
“Hm? Oh, what’s up, Kasumi?”
I immediately called out to my friend from middle school, Kakeru Kurase. He was in the middle of stuffing textbooks into his school bag. And the reason I called him was because of a conversation we had a couple of days ago
“Sorry, Kasumi! This Thursday… Could you hold a study session for me after school? I don’t have club practice, so I want you to help me with my studying…”
“Hmm? Sure, but… Why all of a sudden? You’ve never asked me to hold a study session before. Did something happen?”
“Ah, well… We have midterms at the beginning of next month, right? If I fail again, my mom’s going to be mad… So I thought I should start studying properly… But there’s a lot I don’t understand…”
“Ah, I see. It’s good that you want to study properly. Sure, that’s fine. I’ll help you study as much as you need.”
“R-Really? Thanks, Kasumi! Then please help me the day after tomorrow! It’s a promise!”
“Alright, got it. Promise.”
That was the conversation I had with Kakeru a couple of days ago. Since studying was a student’s main duty, it was very responsible of him to want to study on his own. So today, we were supposed to have that study session. I asked Kakeru where we would do it.
“We’re having a study session later, right? Where should we do it? I think it’d be best somewhere we can focus… So shall we do it in the library?”
“…Huh?”
But when I brought it up, Kakeru suddenly let out a strange, high-pitched sound. He looked at me with a blank expression and asked.
“Uh… Study session? Uh, um… What’s that again?”
“H-Huh? What do you mean, what’s that…? You asked me yourself, didn’t you? You said you wanted a study session after school today since there’s no basketball practice. Did you forget about it, Kakeru?”
“Eh… I… A study session… Ah, ahh!? W-Well, um…!!”
I gave him a side-eye, and he suddenly raised his voice in shock. Then Kakeru’s eyes darted around, and he started panicking. It seemed he really had forgotten.
“Haah… From that expression, it looks like you forgot. You really have had a forgetful personality since middle school. You have to manage your schedule properly, you know?”
“Ugh… Y-yeah… I’m really sorry…”
“Sigh… It’s fine. So? Can we have the study session today, or not?”
“Ah, n-no… Well, um… Actually… I… I ave something really important to do later today… My parents asked me to go shopping for something…”
“Lies. It’s just the usual, isn’t it? Another game event you want to play, right?”
“Ugh!? H-How did you know? K-Kasumi, can you see right through all my lies…?”
“Of course. We’ve been friends for over four years now, haven’t we? So I can see right through all your lies. Haah… Well, fine. Then we’ll just reschedule the study session for another day.”
“Eh…R-really? That helps a lot! Thanks, Kasumi! I’ll make it up to you by bringing snacks for the next study session! You like sweets, right? I’ll find some you’ll like before then!”
“Oh, really? That’s sweet of you. Alright, I’ll call it settled then.”
“Thanks, Kasumi! Then look forward to the snacks! I’ll make sure to find the ones you like! Anyway, I need to head home quickly, so I’ll leave first! See ya!”
“Yeah, see you.”
Tatata…
With that, Kakeru ran out of the classroom. I was left alone.
“Phew… I was supposed to study with Kakeru, but now I suddenly have free time. What should I do next…”
I muttered as I crossed my arms. Since I had planned to study with Kakeru, I hadn’t made any other plans. So suddenly, I had nothing to do.
“Hm, but studying is never wasted, so that’s fine. I guess I’ll go to the cram school’s study room and do some test prep there.”
So I decided to head home quickly and then go straight to the cram school study room. Today, I would work hard on test prep by myself.
