ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー
Several hours had passed since I arrived at school. It was just about the start of lunch break.
“Whoa, this book is really interesting.”
I had come to the school library and was leisurely reading a novel by myself. Even if I stayed in the classroom, everyone was giving me the cold shoulder. I figured it would be wrong to ruin everyone’s fun lunch break with the tense atmosphere my presence caused, so I quickly ate my sandwich and took refuge in the library alone.
Besides, I quite liked reading. When I was a kid, I only read manga, but as I grew older, I started reading novels, non-fiction, and various other types of books. So, to kill time during lunch, I thought I’d read a novel and ended up in the library. Also, the library would have fewer people, and I wouldn’t have to worry about creating any awkward tension just by being there.
Thanks to that, I could read at ease without worrying about anyone. For someone like me, who was disliked by everyone, the library was going to be a really convenient spot. I decided to make good use of it from now on.
“Phew… Alright, I’ve killed enough time for now. I should head back to class.”
I carefully returned the novel I had been reading to the bookshelf and left the library. That novel had actually been really interesting. It had been labeled under the cute “This Month’s Recommendation!” pop-up, so I grabbed it on a whim and it turned out to be far better than I expected. The librarian or the library committee must have great taste. From now on, I’d visit the library more often to check out other recommended novels.
“Alright, time to head back to class… Wait, huh?”
“Whoa, whoa…”
As I muttered to myself while walking down the hallway, I spotted a female student up ahead, carrying a huge stack of notebooks in both hands.
Hmm, that looks like a lot to carry… Wait, ah!
“Whoa, whoa… ah!”
“Eh? W-w-wha!?”
BANG! CRASH!
The girl collided with a male student who had suddenly come running from the opposite direction, causing her to fall to the floor. The notebooks she had been holding scattered everywhere.
“W-w-wait, s-sorry! I-I’m in a hurry… A-are you okay?”
“Eh? Ah… Y-yeah, I’m fine…”
“Th-then that’s good! R-really, I’m sorry! I’ll be careful from now on, so please forgive me! Okay, see ya!”
THUD THUD THUD!!
Saying that, the boy ran off at full speed, leaving the girl behind.
“Ah… O-okay… Be careful from now on…”
The girl quietly watched him leave and then began picking up the scattered notebooks on her own.
…I can’t just ignore this situation and go back to class.
So I quickly approached her and spoke in a friendly tone.
“Hey, are you okay?”
“Eh? Ah… Yeah, I’m fine… Wait, huh!?”
“Hmm? Wait… ah…!”
The moment I spoke, the girl in front of me looked at my face and let out a shocked cry and I, too, couldn’t help but exclaim in surprise.
No way…
The girl standing before me was none other than Moeka Sakagami, one of the main heroines!
N-no way! Running into one of the main heroines in a place like this…This is too much of a miracle!
I stared at Sakagami carefully. Well, she was in the same class, so I’d seen her briefly during lessons before, but I never expected I’d actually get to talk to her like this. So, to clarify again, this girl was Moeka Sakagami, a second-year student and my classmate. She was around the late 150 cm range in height, with semi-long light brown hair and big, round eyes. Basically, she was a really cute girl. According to the game, she had a bright and kind personality, with a slightly airheaded streak that made her even cuter.
She was also the protagonist’s childhood friend. They’d been close since kindergarten and had gone to school together all the way to high school. So Moeka was definitely the protagonist’s closest female friend. After enjoying the game’s sweet daily-life and a sweet couple moments with Moeka, the protagonist had watched helplessly as she was seduced and corrupted by Kuze’s schemes… Which completely fried the brains of us players.
“Uh, um… A-actually…”
Sakagami looked at me nervously, her expression shaking slightly. I remembered that in the game, she had been like this the first time she ran into me. Well, of course. Any girl would react nervously if she ran into me. I was a delinquent hated by the whole class. Naturally, Sakagami would be afraid of me too. But just because she was scared didn’t mean I could leave her and walk back to class alone. I had to help, so I tried to keep my expression calm and asked her.
“So… Where are these notebooks supposed to go? To our classroom?”
“Eh? Ah, y-yeah…That’s right…”
“Alright. Then I’ll help. Here we go…”
“…Eh?”
I bent down, picked up all the scattered notebooks from the floor, and stood up holding all of them.
“Okay, that should be all of them. Let’s head back to class.”
“Eh? I-is that… Okay?”
“Of course it’s okay. I’m not the kind of person who’d leave someone in trouble and go back alone. Besides, if Sakagami saw someone struggling, you’d help too, right? Everyone has that instinct in their heart. So just accept my help, alright?”
“Ah… Y-yeah, that’s true…Th-thank you for carrying the notebooks, Kuze-kun.”
“No problem.”
Sakagami seemed satisfied with my words, and we started walking to the classroom together, carrying the notebooks.
“…”
“…”
Although we were walking together, neither of us spoke. Sakagami occasionally glanced at me with a slightly worried look. Of course she was wary of me. Any normal girl would be scared walking next to a delinquent like me. Still, staying silent the whole way felt awkward. I should try talking a little. I tried to sound casual and approachable as I asked her a question.
“So… Why were you carrying so many notebooks down the hallway?”
“Eh? Ah… I had a few problems I didn’t understand, so I went to the staff room to ask the teacher. After I got help, I was heading back to class, but then another teacher asked me to bring the collected homework notebooks to the classroom too.”
“I see… So that’s what was going on. Sounds like quite the errand.”
“N-no, it’s not that bad. I’m fine. So… Kuze-kun, what about you? There’s no cafeteria or store on this side of the building. Why did you come here during lunch?”
“Oh, I was killing time. I’d been in the library until just now.”
“R-really? Kuze-kun… You were in the library all this time!?”
“Eh? Ah, yeah, I was.”
The moment I told her I had been in the library, Sakagami’s face went completely shocked, and she suddenly shouted loudly.
W-wait…Why is she so surprised??

Sigh, why is it that MCs always make a commitment to avoid the protag and heroines, then “can’t help but help” when they’re in trouble? Then have the audacity to act shocked when things change?
Call me crazy, but if this happened to me, there’s no way in helheim that I would go through school again. Especially if I was a delinquent. I’d much rather go get a job or join the military or whatever the world allowed me.
And can’t we have the MC chase after onee-sans or MILFs already? Why is it always the heroines? They’re not even that great.
MC be like…I don’t want to, but I really, really want to…🤫😂😂😂honestly its infuriating😒
It really is. I get that these are geared towards teenagers, but would it kill authors to come up with something original? Like a delinquent getting a gyaru girlfriend? Or a delinquent wooing a single MILF? Or a college-age onee-san? Or heck, even the next-door neighbor? No need for MCs to go for the heroines. Heck, why even go to school AGAIN? School’s hellish enough the first time.
What would also be refreshing is to have MCs be more grieved by being in another world. For once instead of loner MCs, overworked MCs, or MCs with bad lives, have there be MCs who had great families or were wealthy or had successful lives and good jobs, and have them struggle with the concept that they’ll never get back to their original lives or original worlds and that they’ll forever be separated from the families and lives that they’ve had. (Maybe I should write my own light novel on that.)
Also, why do MCs always assume they’re dead? They could be in a coma, or in a dream world, or some supernatural phenomenon could’ve sucked them into the game (like Zathura and Jumanji).
