Chapter 61: Supplies
“Well, let’s put aside the talk about romance for now.”
I switched the topic while talking with Reno.
“The issue is how much supplies we have here… There’s a facility in this fort to produce our own food, right?”
The topic now is about supplies.
“Yes, there is, but it isn’t that big, and we can’t expect much due to the harvest season.”
“I figured as much. The food problem is serious.”
“Yes, it’s quite a problem. I think the most realistic option is for the two of us to hunt animals.”
“That might be the case… Food will be a major issue.”
Our group carried a fair amount of food, but there are still limits. Considering we might be holed up in this fort for a long time, food will always be a concern.
“What about the stock of menstrual medicine?”
After food, the next topic is menstrual medicine. In this world, it’s a medicine that can completely and healthily stop a woman’s menstrual cycle. In a world with magic, there’s no significant difference in the abilities of soldiers. The medicine was created by a former great nation to maximize the use of female soldiers.
“We have enough for everyone to function without problems…”
“Our group has almost none. Even my supply is running low.”
Menstrual medicine is taken daily, so the amount is very important.
“Alright, then let’s have Reno gather all the menstrual medicine, and the other female combatants can stay in the back. We can’t afford to have them fall ill.”
We have even less sanitary supplies like pads or tampons. If they get sick due to menstruation, it would be a problem, so they should stay in a clean environment.
“That sounds like a good plan. I’ll relay the message.”
“Thanks.”
I nod at Reno’s words and watch him leave to convey the message.
“Can we manage?”
We’re short on supplies and people. With a hint of unease, I mutter to myself, wondering if we can endure.

Chapter 62: Siege
And so, the days of the siege began.
Enemy soldiers were coming from Baron Lewis’s borderlands and from the forest. We were surrounded on all sides, and the enemy’s attacks were relentless.
“Surprise attack! Surprise attack! Enemy troops are approaching! Immediate action required. I repeat! Enemy troops are approaching! Immediate action required.”
On the third day of the siege, I was awakened by this urgent voice while I was taking my usual nap. For three days, daytime battles were a given. Night raids also occurred almost daily.
“Good morning, Marquis Lastella! Please assist us tonight as well!”
“Understood.”
I sluggishly got up and headed to the ramparts, saluted by the members of Reno’s unit.
“Inhale…”
What I had to do was not repel but intercept. My role was to shoot down the enemy’s magic before it could be activated.
“There are so many, too many.”
The sheer number of enemies was overwhelming. Among them were numerous tactical-class magicians. I groaned as I canceled their magic with a flick of my staff before it could be activated. This magic cancellation consumed less mana but was exhausting.
“Ugh.”
However, I couldn’t slack off just because I was tired. My subordinates were fighting desperately on the front lines, even though we were short on numbers. As their commander, I couldn’t afford to collapse early.
“Yawn…”
I yawned widely while swinging my staff. By the way, Reno was doing the same thing on the opposite side.
“I wonder how long this siege will last.”
While we were surrounded in this fort, the enemy’s supply lines were continuously pressured. Although surprise attacks were possible, getting supplies over the mountains was nearly impossible. How long we could hold them off here would significantly impact our allies’ movements. Eventually, our siege would come to an end.

Chapter 63: Disadvantage
It has already been a week since the siege began.
By now, constant enemy attacks have taken their toll.
“Who are we?”
In these conditions, what I can do is stand at the front to raise the morale of those around me. Losing morale on the battlefield is unacceptable.
“We are the Sword of Lastella! The sword that crushes everything!”
In response to my words, my subordinates shout back.
“Who are we?”, I continued.
“We are the Sword of Lastella! The sword that crushes everything!”, My subordinates responded again.
“Good, then let’s go. To crush the enemy.”
“Oooooooh!!!”
“Charge!!!”
I stand at the front and rush toward the enemy.
“Oooooooh!!!”
Together with the knights serving the Lastella family, I charge into the enemy ranks like a spear. Just defending is not enough. Attack is the best defense. I lead my subordinates, breaking through the enemy and boosting our morale by fighting valiantly.
“Over there! The pressure from the left is weakening! Hit them hard!”
I shout loud enough for all my subordinates to hear while swinging my sword. I avoid using magic as much as possible to conserve my mana.
“Retreat! That’s a trap! But the enemy is faltering! Pull back and regroup!”
Trusting my instincts, I predict and counter the enemy’s actions. My subordinates and I, surrounded by numerous enemies, intensified our assault.
“Ugh.”
In the midst of battle, I glance back at the fort for a moment. We’re certainly surrounded, but we’re still close enough to break through and return.
“Follow mee!!!”
It’s not time to retreat yet. I raise my voice to rally my subordinates and continue the charge. The defenders at the fort, whose spirits were already wavering, also watched our efforts.
