Chapter 2: Power That Surpasses the Saintess
“Huh?”
Dad’s eyes and all the commanders’ eyes went wide like dots.
“…Zenon, are you screwing around with meeee!?”
“N-No, wait, Father! Hold on! This cheat ability that only the saintess can use—the [Miracle of Healing]—means I can use it too, right!?”
Dad grabbed me by the collar with insane force, and I rushed to explain while panicking.
He had every right to be pissed.
First things first, I had to make him understand just how amazing recovery magic really was.
“You’re seriously saying you can use the saintess’s [Miracle of Healing]!? You’re a guy, and the saintess has already descended and everything!?”
“Exactly!”
I nodded hard and said it straight out.
Dad’s crazy strength was choking my neck—it hurt like hell.
“Then show me right here and now! If you can actually do it!”
『Congratulations.
You can now use [Heal].』
Right then, a god’s voice—the system voice—rang out in my head, telling me I’d learned the magic.
Oh, perfect timing.
Just like in the game, when you get a magic-type skill, you automatically unlock one matching spell without any training.
“Then lemme heal your right eye, Father, and show you!”
“What!?”
I touched Dad’s face and desperately focused to cast Heal.
Dad had lost his right eye in battle and wore an eyepatch.
I knew how much it frustrated him, how it dropped his skill as a swordsman.
If I fixed that eye, his combat power would shoot way up.
In this world, there are warriors—real one-man armies—who’re worth thousands, maybe even ten thousand soldiers. Dad was one of those rare beasts. His strength alone matched an entire army.
So healing this eye was basically the same as gaining a thousand-soldier boost!
This might actually let me survive.
『Magic power 【MP】 is 0, so the spell failed to activate.』
Right after, a ripping pain tore through my whole body.
Huh…? What the…?
“Gah!?”
A hot clump of blood spilled out of my mouth.
…Oh crap, damn it.
I’d never used magic before, so I didn’t know, but turns out my MP—my magic power—was zero.
If you try casting when your MP is empty, it always fails, and you lose half your 【Life Force】 HP.
“Young master…!?”
“Are you alright!?”
The retainers started freaking out and rushed toward me.
Dad held them back with his hand.
“That’s enough. I was an idiot for expecting anything from you, Zenon.”
Dad spat the words out, looking totally disgusted from the bottom of his heart.
“Looks like you pulled a complete dud skill… How pathetic!”
『MP has increased by 1. To raise MP further, please continue using magic.』
Even through the crazy pain, that system voice hit me with good news.
…N-No, wait, it’s okay. There’s still hope.
Even if I keep coughing up blood, using magic will raise my MP.
It might not work now, but if I grind it out over time, I’ll be able to use the [Miracle of Healing] too.
Yeah. Then the Greivan border count army can win.
I can make it out alive!
The second that thought hit me, the worst memory flooded back into my brain.
The scenario from “KimiKoi.” The end of the Greivan border count territory.
…Hey, wait a sec. Isn’t this the place that gets wiped out by the empire army super early in the game?
Yeah, the mob son of the lord there—aka me—gets this trash skill, and then like two weeks later, the empire launches a huge offensive!
Dad gets taken down, I’m captured, and then I get publicly executed by beheading.
Oh man, this is bad. Like, really bad.
If things stay like this, I’m 100% dead!
I finally got reincarnated into my favorite game world, thought I could go meet my waifu saintess Alicia, and now this!? No way!
I gotta somehow tell Dad and the others about this and get ready for it…
“Father, two weeks from now a huge enemy army is gonna—!”
I shouted it while choking on blood, but nobody heard me.
“Useless brat. Everyone, let’s go! We just wasted precious time!”
“Yes sir…!”
Dad stormed out of the temple with his shoulders all tense, and his back looked so far away.
Damn it, this is the worst possible start.
I racked my brain like crazy.
To use Heal, I need 10 MP.
If I keep forcing magic every day while puking blood, could I maybe—just barely—get enough MP in two weeks to heal Dad’s eye?
If I pull that off, changing fate might not be impossible.
More than anything, this is the land where I grew up. The thought of all the people who’ve been good to me getting slaughtered like that hurt my heart.
“Lord Zenon, please don’t move!”
“We’ll take you to the infirmary right away!”
The priests lent me their shoulders and carried me to a bed in the infirmary.
[Super Recovery] is definitely the strongest skill.
But for me, a swordsman who’s lived with zero MP… is the compatibility fatally bad…?
“This looks like magic depletion sickness. For now, keep him resting and we’ll prepare herbs to speed up magic recovery…”
“If we mess up the initial treatment, it could be life-threatening.”
The priests left me there to go grab the herbs.
That’s when it suddenly hit me.
“…Huh? It-It doesn’t hurt?”
The vomiting blood had already stopped.
Not just that—my body actually felt super good.
What the heck is this?
“N-No way…”
The skill [Super Recovery]. Its effects: ‘You will be able to use recovery magic. Recovery effects will be greatly enhanced.’
Doesn’t that boosted recovery effect apply not just to recovery magic, but to my own natural healing too…?
Skills evolve and get stronger the more you use them.
When I remembered that, excitement made my whole body shake.
Yeah. Saintess Alicia didn’t have any attack power, but I’ve got the sword skills I’ve trained like crazy.
So doesn’t that mean… I could become an immortal swordsman?
I can train MP up without worrying about damage, super efficiently.
“Bad compatibility…? Nah, that’s wrong.”
My mouth corners pulled up without me even thinking.
The healed-up me jumped right off the bed.
“This is literally the best compatibility ever!”
I’d just grabbed the path to a total comeback with my own hands.

TThis is totally dumb, giving it 1 more chapter but this is clearly every series like this but worse somehow
*edit* also why would the gods give him an ability but no mana, like not even for a single cast?
Didn’t he say that he had never used mana, and that his lineage doesn’t have good compatibility with mana? Hence, he has no mana?
Maybe he needs to gain it like how the saintess has to? Or it could just be that Author-sensei didn’t want MC to be OP right off the bat, but… I honestly don’t see a problem with that considering the current situation.
The only reason why I’m reading this is because of the title. But… it’s really been stupid so far. Basically, MC’s got kicked out just for the sake of the trope at this point.
