How About Making Both of Them Girlfriend Candidates?
“So the staff introduced each of us to the other.”
“I was surprised too. I never expected to get introduced to Kaito.”
Meg said that, and her expression shifted to one of slight embarrassment.
“When I told the staff that Meg was with me, she was totally shocked.”
“Ahaha! That makes sense! Normally, you arrange meetings through the agency.”
Her bright expression matched her cheerful voice. Looking at her like this, I could hardly believe she was on a ten-loss confession streak.
“Hey, Kaito, what did you write for the ‘ideal partner’s personality’ section on the profile sheet?”
“Something cliché, but I wrote ‘a bright person.’ I know I’m reserved, so bright people appeal to me regardless of gender.”
“I see. That definitely fits me!”
“It’s impressive that you say it about yourself.”
“You know, everyone has their strong points, right? That’s why I think you have to actively promote them yourself.”
“That’s what I find impressive about you. It’s like being forward-thinking, something I can’t do.”
“Thanks! Hey, hey, what else did you write? Did you put a preferred job for a partner?”
“I thought an adventurer would be good. And for age, I wrote around the same as mine.”
“I see. That makes sense why they introduced me!”
Her confidence reached a point that felt refreshing. She seemed to enjoy life so much.
Having even one thing to be proud of probably built that self-assurance.
“That’s me, but I’d like to hear what you wrote, Meg.”
“Mine’s cliché too. I wrote ‘someone kind who really sees me.'”
“With that, why did I match?”
“Oh, that’s because I wrote that I want an adventurer close in age too.”
When I thought about it, that made sense. You couldn’t know someone’s personality until you met them. So you judged based on other factors.
“That means we match each other’s hopes.”
“Yeah… Um, so how about we spend some time together?”
“You mean go on a date?”
“No. Since we’re both adventurers anyway, let’s form a party! That way, we’ll have time for dates too.”
I see. I planned to take both adventuring and marriage hunting seriously. And the agency had introduced Meg to me. So I needed to consider it properly.
“Sure. If you’re okay with it, I’d like to ask you too.”
“Yeah! It’s decided!”
But wait a minute; it was too soon to relax! I needed Airi’s agreement too, of course.
Right now, we were a two-person party with Airi, after all.
“So that’s how it is, but what do you think, Airi?”
Even as I asked, Airi didn’t change her expression. As far as I knew, she wasn’t the type to show emotions much.
“Well, if we’re going to continue as adventurers, we’ll eventually need more members. I’m in favor, as long as you ultimately choose me.”
“Were you listening? This is part of my marriage hunting too, so it doesn’t necessarily mean that.”
“Hey, hey, Kaito, do you dislike Airi?”
“Of course not. If I did, I wouldn’t be with her.”
“Then how about making both me and Airi your girlfriend candidates?”
“Huh…? That wouldn’t work.”
“Why not? I don’t mind.”
Meg tilted her head a little, and it seemed she really meant it.
“Why? Because it would be rude to both of you.”
Right, two-timing was wrong. I couldn’t make them spend their precious time on my dishonesty.
“You’re kind after all, Kaito.”
“Kind…? I think it’s just normal.”
“Is it? If I hypothetically had someone I liked, I’d hate not being able to stay by their side. So as long as you keep an eye on me properly, I wouldn’t mind if you got along with other girls.”
“Is that how it works?”
“Of course it varies by person, but at least that’s how I feel.”
(So two-timing is okay… Huh, really? Well, if she’s fine with it, then maybe it is?)
If that was allowed, I could even build a legal(?) harem. Assuming I had the appeal for it.
No, there I went with self-doubt again. Meg had told me to have more confidence.
At the very least, as a mindset, I needed to think, “Harem? Bring it on!”
“Since Meg says that, I think we should adventure as a three-person party.”
I meant that for Airi, but she didn’t seem to hear. Instead, she pressed her hands to both cheeks and wriggled her body while muttering something.
“Ehehe…! Kaito said he doesn’t dislike me! That means he likes me, right!?”
She looked so delighted that I couldn’t bring myself to say, “I didn’t say I like you.”
