Chapter 8:The Dungeon Association

“I’m so tired…”

Stepping out of the dungeon, I let out a small sigh. While I did hold back on purpose, but I never expected the breath attack would close in on me so quickly. If my skill incantation had been 0.1 seconds slower, my face would’ve turned into charcoal. 

“But still, since I worked so hard, I ended up receiving more tips than usual.”

On today’s livestream, I received about 1.2 times the usual amount.

Alright. Maybe I should treat myself to something nice for the first time in a long while. 

I thought to myself, when suddenly…

Ring~ Ring~ Ring~

My phone rang. I wondered who it could be. Maybe a friend? No, that was highly unlikely… I checked my phone and I saw a familiar name displayed on the screen.

“Thank you for your continued support. This is the Dungeon Association headquarters. Am I speaking with Hiiragi-san?”

Yes. It was the Dungeon Association, an organization that every explorer was affiliated with.

“Thank you for your support too. This is Hiiragi speaking and… This is Ueno-san, right?”

I knew this woman’s voice. This voice sounded like the voice of the kind receptionist at the Dungeon Association. She was the receptionist for the reference room. I always went there to find monster and dungeon-related documents. 

“You remembered me!”

“Yes, of course. You always help me out when I’m looking for documents about monsters. Thank you for that, Ueno-san”

“No,no. Supporting excellent explorers like you is part of our duty in the Dungeon Association… Although… You’re not officially registered as an explorer yet, so there’s not much we can do to support you.”

“Well, about that… I’m sorry…”

“Not at all. Actually, that’s part of the reason why we’re reaching out to you. You see, we, from the Dungeon Association, have been having a discussion about you, Hiiragi-san. After all, you’re an extremely talented individual who can solo A-rank monsters and even withstand a Fire Dragon’s breath.”

“Hahaha, thank you…”

I was caught off guard with that. They must’ve seen today’s stream. I did go a bit overboard today. I was a bit embarrassed…

“So, there’s something we’d like to ask from Hiiragi-san on behalf of the Dungeon Association.”

“Something you’d like to ask?”

I wasn’t registered as an explorer yet, so my involvement with the Dungeon Association wasn’t as deep as most explorers. Hence why, I couldn’t help but to wonder why they specifically came to me.

“Actually, the monsters in the West Tokyo Dungeon, the dungeon you usually operate at, have been showing some unusual behavior recently.”

“Unusual behavior?”

I tried to recall today’s dungeon exploration, but nothing seemed out of the ordinary. 

“For instance, even low-level monsters like orcs can coordinate their attacks and more goblins have been appearing on the first floor, more than usual. This strange behavior has mainly been reported in the upper and middle levels, so maybe you haven’t experienced it yet.”

“That… That sounds like the sign of a stampede.”

A stampede was an abnormal phenomenon within a dungeon where a large number of monsters appeared, often accompanied by monsters moving between floors. One of the key indicators of an impending stampede was the increase in monster numbers on the upper and middle levels.

“Yes. We also suspected a stampede is about to occur in the West Tokyo Dungeon, but it seems that an increase in the number of monsters is only happening on the first floor. At least, based on the data in the field we’ve confirmed.”

What? I never heard of an increase in the number of monsters only on the first floor.

“So, do you guys want me to investigate the upper floors of the West Tokyo Dungeon?”

“No, that’s not what we’re asking. The Dungeon Association doesn’t consider these unusual monster movements to be significant enough to issue a request, as they don’t seem to indicate a stampede. We called you to ask you to report any abnormalities you notice, no matter how minor.”

“Understood. I will call you on this number if I notice anything strange.”

“Thank you very much, Hiiragi-san. Right now, all of the A-rank parties that usually operate in the West Tokyo Dungeons are going to the other dungeons. You’re the only explorer active in the lower levels, so your help is really greatly appreciated.”

I see, so that’s why…

I wasn’t an official explorer yet, so I didn’t have any obligation to report anything to the Dungeon Association. However, since I was the only one actively hunting monsters in the lower levels of the West Tokyo Dungeon right now, the Dungeon Association had to reach out to me for help. 

“By the way, it’s truly a relief to know you’re much more polite off-stream compared to… Well, your livestreams, Hiiragi-san.”

Ueno-san suddenly said. 

“Hahaha, come on. There’s no way I would pick a fight with someone from the Dungeon Association. I only do that with the monsters.”

“Fufufu~ Understandable. Well then, that is all we want to talk about. Thank you for your cooperation, Hiiragi-san.”

Ueno-san had seen through my act. It seemed she knew I was only pretending to be a crazy streamer. Well, it couldn’t be helped. If I also acted like a crazy guy even outside of my streams, I would become a genuine crazy guy. 

“Alright. Maybe I should treat myself to something…”

I muttered to myself as I headed straight to the sweets sections in the convenience store.
