Chapter 7: The Truth Behind the Special Room
While exploring the house, I must have been amazed the entire time.
The prejudice that wealthier homes have fewer possessions was true. Everything placed around was carefully chosen.
Though I didn’t know the names, there were expensive-looking paintings and art pieces that made me feel the difference in class.
“Don’t be too scared.”
“I know that in my head, but I can’t stop reacting.”
“I’ll just patiently wait until you get used to it.”
As I continued exploring, I came across what seemed to be a servant.
Though I knew about them from the setting, this was my first time seeing actual butlers and maids. It was a good experience.
“Maybe I’ll introduce you to my rooms soon.”
“You don’t just have one room?”
“With this much space, my parents don’t come home often.”
In essence, this mansion seemed to be rented out entirely to Ruriko.
Since my parents both work, I can be free except late at night or early in the morning. It felt like I was the protagonist in a romance story.
“So, I guess I can show you my ‘special room’ in detail.”
After a moderate exploration of the first floor, we moved to the second floor.
Instead of using the stairs, we took the built-in elevator.
Again, I had to hold back the words of admiration about to escape me. I wanted to hold off on showing how shocked I was.
“The main room on the first floor is the guest room. The second floor is mostly for our individual rooms.”
We were guided to the room Ruriko often used.
It was a room for playing music. A glossy black piano sat at the center. There were drums, a violin, and an environment that reminded me of a studio.
“When I play ‘Moonlight’ here, it feels so sentimental, it’s the best.”
Once the door was closed, Ruriko started playing.
The piano, the song choice, the environment, her skill—it all matched perfectly.
I’m not very knowledgeable about music, but even I could feel the intensity that almost drew me into the song.
“That was amazing.”
As she removed her fingers from the keys, I clapped.
“Thank you. I’ve been playing since I was little, and I really like this song.”
“It suits you perfectly, a transparent song.”
“Compliments won’t get you anything. Well, maybe they will this time.”
“They will?”
“I did tell you I had a special one, right?”
The main course was still to come. I had to get through this.
Yandere is a gradient. Even if it seems fine at first, there’s always a very fine line between being okay and crossing over.
“I’m going to take you there now.”
I involuntarily swallowed, feeling a strong thirst.
Ruriko’s steps were lighter now. She was even humming. Her mood was clearly high.
It was something that made her very happy.
“This room, though.”
We reached a door that was closed. To get here, we had passed through a long corridor. The lights had diminished, and the air was getting more humid.
The atmosphere had changed. It was definitely tense now.
There was a pressure, like someone’s intense will was being forced into the space. Even though the door was shut, the unease wasn’t completely hidden.
“I’m opening it.”
“Ah, okay.”
I could only give a clumsy response. I was so aware of what was beyond the door.
—Click.
It opened. I could see inside.
It was dark. But it was clear there were extremely few things in the room.
There didn’t seem to be a single window. It felt damp, and the environment wasn’t very good. Probably because the ventilation wasn’t working properly.
“I’ll turn on the lights.”
Light.
What I saw was a collection of words and photos that filled all four walls.
The walls of the room were covered with whiteboards. It looked like the explanation scenes in police dramas. Photos were pinned up, connected with symbols.
The pinned photos were of students from Yami Disease School. It almost felt like she was profiling them.
—So it was true, after all.
There was almost no difference from the original.
“This is.”
“My research results.”
“Are you studying your classmates?”
“Yes. It’s important to understand people.”
I get that knowing people is important. But showing a room like this to me, someone who is also her classmate, is not normal.
“Especially Insei-kun’s. I put a lot of effort into it.”
Ruriko instructed me to look at the wall near the door.
The whole wall was filled.
In the center were my photos, surrounded by various bits of information.
My personality, hobbies, quirks, likes, daily actions, relationships with others, family connections, even my health conditions…
The details were so thorough, it was like she knew me better than I did myself.
This was supposed to be something the protagonist would experience.
I wanted to believe I was just a mob character. But it was clear that the roles had been reversed.
“What do you want from me, showing me this?”
“I’m not sure… but at least it’s not disappointment. Based on my analysis, I thought you might not actually resist this type of thing.”
She thought I didn’t mind yandere behavior?
That might be true. After all, in this world, I hadn’t yet experienced the pain.
In my past life, I was drawn to Satsuki, a yandere psycho girl. Ruriko’s words weren’t so far off.
“Insei-kun has been in love with me, even after getting over a cold.”
“No, that’s not true. I really do—“
“That tone, it’s a lie. Insei-kun has used the words ‘wholeheartedly’ nearly ten times, and every single time it was a sign that a lie was coming.”
“Wh—”
She was sharp. It might even be sharper than Satsuki.
In my past life, I had used that phrase more than she mentioned.
Ruriko’s mind was as sharp as Satsuki’s, but she wasn’t Satsuki. They were similar, but different.
“It’s pointless to panic, you know? It’s useless to fear me. It’s useless to try and ensure your safety.”
In the original story, there was a chance to escape at this point. The original route only turned dark afterward, but for now, it seemed like I could still do something.
That should have been the case.
“Don’t tell me… are you trying to run?”
Just as I tried to move, she spoke.
“You can’t. I just want to talk to you slowly.”
From her uniform’s chest pocket, she pulled out a switch.
When Ruriko pressed the switch, I heard a cold, mechanical locking sound.
“I’ve turned on the lock. There are no windows or ventilation. And once this switch is pressed, it can’t be undone for ten minutes.”
“Wait, what?”
I hadn’t expected this. This wasn’t supposed to happen.
“Here’s the perfect sealed room.”
This is what happens when you think with your lower half
