I Want a Girlfriend who Won’t Betray Me - Chapter 20
Summer Vacation Plans
Next Monday is Marine Day, so we have a three-day weekend. Then, the last day of school is on Friday. Summer vacation is just around the corner.
When I get home, I ask my parents.
“Dad, Mom, are we going on a trip this summer?”
“I can take nine consecutive days off for summer vacation sometime between July and September, according to company regulations. But I’ll have to adjust my work schedule. So, if you want to go somewhere, it’s best to let me know as soon as possible.”
“I can’t take that much time off. But if it’s just for a few days, I might be able to adjust my schedule with the help of my manager, Tori-san. But where do you want to go? It’s probably difficult to make hotel reservations now. Also, considering security, our options might be limited. If it’s overseas, it wouldn’t be an issue, though.”
“Overseas? Not for a while.”
“I understand how you feel, Kazuki. Is there anywhere in Japan you want to go?”
“Well…I have no idea. Mom, the ocean is out of the question, right?”
“Yeah, that’s definitely out of the question. But we can go to a lake or the mountains.”
“There’s a hotel in Omoizawa that works together with my company. So I should be able to get a reservation for us.”
“Even if we decide on the location, when can we actually go?”
“That’s right. I can probably go around late August.”
“I need to check with Tori-san first, but if it’s late August, I might be able to adjust my schedule.”
“Alright then. How about going there for three nights and four days on the 20th of August?”
“Okay I’ll check with the company’s HR department.”
Now, I’ll be able to go on a trip with my parents. I have to do my summer vacation homework in July so that I’ll be free in August.
Come to think of it, I haven’t asked when Kanbayashi and the others are planning to go to the pool.
When I go to school after the three-day weekend, I immediately ask Kanbayashi.
“Morning, Kanbayashi. When are we going to the pool?”
“Yeah, about that. We’re thinking of going on August 5th. Does that work for you?”
“Yeah, that works.”
“Alright, then it’s settled. Karen, let Kaori-chan know too.”
“Got it.”
Kaori-chan? Who’s that?
“This is bad.”
“Asai Kaori. The most beautiful girl in our grade, no, the whole school.”
“She’s going to the pool with Shinonome-kun? This is really bad.”
The three of them are whispering something among themselves again.
Starting today, we only have morning classes for three days. Friday is the last day of school. For some reason, I feel kind of happy about it.
After the morning classes are over, I buy some sweet buns from the school store and plan to eat it in the classroom before going to the library.
However, when I return to the classroom.
“Kazuki.”
“Kisaragi-san.”
“Please, talk to me.”
“I refuse. What’s the point now?”

Wakana’s POV
Kazuki grabs his bag and leaves the classroom. Is there really no way to fix this? If he won’t even talk to me, then there’s nothing I can do. But still, I want to do something, anything.
“Kisaragi-san still has feelings for him.”
“She was all over Goto-kun before, but the moment Shinonome-kun showed up, she changed her attitude. Then after she dumped Goto-kun like that, she wants to date Shinonome-kun now?”
“Even as a girl, I think that’s too much.”
People can say whatever they want, it’s the truth after all. But still, I want to do something to mend our relationship.

Kazuki’s POV
I was planning to eat in the classroom, but since that’s not an option anymore, I decided to head to the bench behind the school building.
When I arrive, I see a girl watering the flower beds.
“Um, is it okay if I use this bench?”
She turns around and smiles.
“You’re free to use that bench.”
Her smile is bright and kind. She is incredibly cute, no, beautiful. She’s about 160 cm tall, with long, glossy black hair that reaches down to her waist. Her large, almond-shaped eyes, well-defined nose, and soft lips that perfectly complements her beautiful face. I can’t help but stare for a moment.
“Is something wrong?”
“N-No, it’s nothing.”
As I sit down to eat the sweet buns I bought from the school store, I find myself watching her as she waters the flower beds. Her fair skin seems to glow in the sunlight, and for some reason, I can’t take my eyes off her.
After finishing my sweet buns, I stand up.
“Sorry for disturbing you.”
“Not at all.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Shinonome Kazuki, the most popular student in this school.
I have never spoken to him before, so I don’t know what he’s really like. However, the rumours that have spread about him before sound too exaggerated to believe.
From what I saw just now, he doesn’t seem like a bad person at all.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As I walk towards the library, I can’t stop thinking about the beautiful girl who was watering the flower beds earlier.
There isn’t anyone that beautiful in Class 2-A.
Which class is she from? I have never seen her before.
Maybe I should eat lunch there again tomorrow. But there’s no guarantee she’ll be there.
When I enter the library, Kamijo-san is already there. As usual, I sit a little distance away from her and start reviewing today’s lessons.
Since I arrive late, the time passes by quickly.
Just as I’m putting my textbook into my bag and getting ready to leave the library, Kamijo-san comes up to me.
“Shinonome-kun, can I walk home with you again today?”
“Of course.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sana’s POV
I change my shoes at the entrance and walk up beside him. Then we leave the school gates together.
“Shinonome-kun, how are you planning to spend your summer vacation?”
“Eh? Well, just going with the flow, I guess.”
“Hey, why don’t we go somewhere together?”
“With you, Kamijo-san?”
“Yeah, what do you think?”
“Just the two of us? That might be a little…”
“Why? Why not?”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kazuki’s POV
Eh? I feel like I’ve heard that phrase somewhere before…
“Well, it’s just that going out alone with a girl who isn’t even my friend wouldn’t be right, you know?”
“So it’s okay if we’re friends?”
“Eh? Well, I guess?”
“Then let’s become friends right now.”
…yeah, no matter how I think about it, I definitely phrased that wrong.
“Alright then. If it’s just as friends.”
“Hmm.”
If it were a guy, I wouldn’t have hesitated. But honestly, I don’t know anything about this girl.
“Then how about we go somewhere to become friends?”
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
“Just something simple, like shopping and a meal.”
“No, no, that sounds way more like a date. Absolutely not.”
“Please? Just for one day, please?”
“Ah, we’re already at the station.”
“No! I won’t let you go!”
Suddenly, she grabs my hand. The people around us turn to us in surprise. Some of them are even students from our school. I really don’t want to stand out like last time…
“Alright.”
“Really?”
“Really.”
“Yayy! We’ll go over the details tomorrow.”
In a blink of an eye, she disappears behind the ticket gate.
The next day after school, I somehow end up agreeing to go to the pool with Kamijo-san. I should have just stuck her idea. To make things worse, it’s on August third. Just two days before I’m supposed to go with Kanbayashi and the others on the 5th.
