- Chapter 19 - For Some Reason, Girls are Approaching Me
For Some Reason, Girls are Approaching Me
The day after the sports festival. We only have morning classes today. When I enter the classroom in the morning, Sudo-san immediately approaches me.
“Good morning, Shinonome-kun. There’s a party today to celebrate the sports festival. Want to come?”
“Good morning, Sudou-san. I’ll pass.”
Remembering the aftermath of the cultural festival party, there’s no way I’m going.
“Don’t say that. Come on, let’s go.”
“No thanks. I’ll sit this one out.”
“Sudo-san, considering what happened at the last party, I don’t think Shinonome-kun is going to come.”
Nice follow up, Hayase-san.
“Then how about just the two of us?”
I take back my words, Hayase-san.
“No matter what you say, I’m not going. You all go and have fun without me.”
“Ehh, that’s so boring.”
Yeah, there is no way I’m going. It will just be exhausting.
The morning classes are now over. I go to the school store alone. Since some students have club activities, the store and cafeteria stay open until 2 PM.
Sudo-san and the others kept inviting me to go to the party, but I declined. Nothing good will come from going to the party.
After finishing the sweet buns I bought at the store, I head to the library. When I go to my usual seat, I see that the girl who has recently been sitting with me, Sana Kamijo, is already there.
Sitting next to her is a bit too stimulating, so I sit somewhere else, take out my textbook, and start studying.

Sana’s POV
Shinonome-kun came. He usually sits next to me, but today, he is sitting somewhere else. As I thought, he’s uncomfortable around girls.
It can’t be helped. After what happened between him and Kisaragi-san, followed by the incident with Yatsugashira-san, it’s no surprise.
Let’s leave it as it is, I shouldn’t get too involved. I want him to have a good impression of me, after all.

Kazuki’s POV
At 3 PM, the bell rings, signalling the end of the school day. Normally, school would end at 5:30 PM, but since today is a Saturday with only morning classes, it ends earlier.
As I’m packing my textbooks and notebook into my bag and is about to leave the library, Kamijo-san calls out to me.
“Shinonome-kun, can I walk with you to the station?”
“Eh? With me?”
“Yeah.”
“I don’t mind, I guess.”
After changing my shoes at the entrance, I leave the school with Kamijo-san.
“Shinonome-kun, you really stood out at the sports festival yesterday.”
“That was a huge mistake. Though it’s too late to think about it now.”
“A huge mistake?”
“Yeah, I don’t want to stand out too much.”
“Shinonome-kun, have you ever looked in a mirror? You’re good looking and ranked first in the midterm exams, even if yesterday didn’t happen, you’d still stand out just by walking around.”
“Is that so?”
“You have absolutely no self-awareness. You’re super popular.”
“That’s just because I did well in the events.”
“You don’t get it. If it was any other guy, no one would have made such a big deal about it. It happened because it’s you.”
“That’s…”
“You should be more aware of yourself.”
“Okay.”
I feel like I just got lectured, and now I don’t know what to say.
“I have a good method for you.”
“Eh? A good method?”
“Ah, we’re already at the station. I’ll tell you next time. Bye-bye.”
Kamijo-san waves to me and walks through the ticket gate.
What’s that good method she was talking about?
Even in June, I continue to spend my time in the library after school.
After the sports festival, Horikawa from the track team kept asking me to join his team, and eventually, even the club captain came to persuade me. But I politely declined. Club activities just aren’t my thing.
After class, I’m about to go to the library as usual.
“Kazuki.”
“What is it, Kisaragi-san?”
“I want to talk.”
“I don’t have anything to say to you. Sorry, I’m in a hurry.”
“Please, just for a little while.”
Sudo-san, Hayase-san, and even Kato-san are looking at us. Other students are also watching. This is the worst.
“I’m going to the library.”
“I’ll wait until you’re done.”
“……”
What does she want to talk about now? I heard she broke up with Goto, but that has nothing to do with me. If she had just been honest from the beginning about having a boyfriend, I could’ve handled things differently. We could’ve had a proper relationship.
It didn’t matter to me whether they had a physical relationship or not, it was never my concern. But she made it seem like her boyfriend didn’t exist, and in the end, everything just got messy.
I already know what she wants to say. That’s exactly why I have no intention of talking to her.
I ignore Wakana and go straight to the library. Surprisingly, Kamijo-san isn’t at her usual spot.
So, I sit down in my usual seat, take out my textbook, and start studying.
Suddenly, she quietly sits beside me.
Where did she come from?
But she doesn’t say anything and just focus on studying. If she isn’t going to talk to me, then it’s fine.
When the bell rings and I get ready to leave, she suddenly speaks.
“Can I walk to the station with you again, Shinonome-kun?”
If I walk alone, Wakana will probably try to talk to me again. This is perfect.
“Sure, let’s go together.”
“Okay.”

Wakana’s POV
Walking next to Kazuki is Kamijo Sana. Why is she walking home with Kazuki?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kazuki’s POV
I ignore Wakana who is in the library and leave the school with Kamijo-san.
I don’t know if this is the turning point, but for some reason, we start walking to the station together every day after the library closed.
At the beginning of July, the first semester final exams take place. Once again, I ranked first.
“Shinonome, you’re amazing. First place again, just like in the midterms. This can’t be luck anymore.”
“Kanbayashi, luck can happen twice in a row.”
“You keep saying that. But I have to work harder too.”
“That’s right, Takeo. We need to work harder as well.”
“You two seem to get along so well. I’m jealous.”
“Want me to introduce you to a girl?”
“No, thanks.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Wakana’s POV
Kazuki ranked first again this time. I’ve been trying my best too, but I only made it to twentieth. He’s really smart.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sana’s POV
Fufu, Shinonome-kun ranked first again. I’m so happy. We’ve been walking home together every day. We have definitely gotten a lot closer.
Summer break is just around the corner. Maybe it’s time to make a move?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kazuki’s POV
When I return to the classroom, Sudo-san calls out to me.
“Hey, Shinonome-kun. Do you have any plans for summer break?”
“No, nothing planned.”
“I see. In that case…”
“Sudou-san, I told you that you can’t monopolize Shinonome-kun. If you’re inviting him, everyone should come too.”
“Eh? But…”
While they’re making a fuss out of it, our homeroom teacher, Kotobuki-sensei, enters the classroom.
Thank goodness.
Then, during the break after the first period, Kanbayashi comes over to me.
“Shinonome, want to hang out with us during summer break?”
“If it’s with you guys, sure. Where are we going?”
“The pool. It’ll be me, Karen, and some of her friends. How about it?”
“That sounds great.”
“Hey, Kanbayashi-kun, let us join too!”
Sudo-san interrupts.
“Sudo-san, sorry, but it’s just us going.”
“Ehh!?”
Summer break, huh? Last year, I had just returned to Japan, so I couldn’t do much. But this year, I want to do something. Come to think of it, maybe I should ask my parents.
During the next break, Sudo-san tries to invite herself again, but she is stopped by the other girls. Still, if this keeps up, we might end up going with a big group.
I have to figure out a way to stop this.
