Chapter 18: The Fear of Familiarity
“Yuuri-san… harder, please.”
“Ah, okay.”
“Mmm, it feels like I’m being crushed.”
“I’ll ease up on the strength.”
“No!”
Familiarity is a frightening thing.
At first, I was nervous about applying sunscreen lotion, but now I can do it mindlessly.
“Hah, hah, Yu-kun?”
“Is something wrong?”
That’s right, just go blank.
Right now, I don’t feel anything.
“Why are you here!?”
“Well…”
“…By the way, Yu-kun, what are you doing?”
“What do you mean? Didn’t you ask me to apply sunscreen lotion, Hikari… Huh? ‘Yu-kun’?”
My mind snaps back to reality, functioning at full capacity.
I’m sure I heard “Yu-kun.” There’s only one person who calls me that.
But this is Hikari’s place. Hikari can’t possibly be there. So, who just called me “Yu-kun” from behind?
“Yu-kun? Why are you doing this with Hikari? It’s wrong. Your hands will get dirty. You shouldn’t touch such things. Yes, this girl is tainted. Everything about her, inside and out…”
It was Airi. That voice was Airi’s.
I’d known it was Airi all along.
I was just escaping reality. Because she sounds quite angry.
“Why are you here?”
“Wait, if you stand up now…”
I was the one who untied Hikari’s bikini straps to apply sunscreen!
So I quickly turned around.
“Why? Because your maid told me you were here.”
“Shinobu did?”
Hikari was visibly shocked.
Honestly, I was surprised too. Although we haven’t been together long, I couldn’t imagine Shinonome-san doing anything that would inconvenience Hikari.
“Yes, it’s me. Milady.”
A voice of affirmation echoed on the sandy beach.
It was Shinonome-san’s voice, who had apparently came to the beach at some point.
“…Shinobu, why would you do this?”
Hikari’s voice was several notches lower than usual. Probably, she wasn’t smiling.
“Milady, your attire is improper. Please cover yourself up”
Shinonome-san picked up a white bikini from the blue sheet and handed it to Hikari.
With a soft sound, the bikini landed silently on the sand.
“Don’t act like a maid now. I’ll hire someone else from tomorrow, so you can leave.”
Hikari spoke quietly, but her voice carried visible anger.
“…Yes. Thank you for everything until now.”
Shinonome-san quickly left the place.
The fleeting glimpse of her expression was as impassive as ever. However, her retreating figure seemed somewhat sad.
Hikari sat down on the blue sheet, hugging her knees.
“…Yuuri-san, I love you.”
