As usual, I was getting ready for school when I got a message from Daisuke.

<I’ve got something to do today. I’m sorry, but I’ll be going to school early.>

That was unusual. Normally, no matter what he had to do, he’d go with me.

“He might give up on you.”

My mom’s words popped into my head again.

It’s okay, he just happened to have something to do today…

For now, I’ll go to school and talk to Daisuke.

When I went to the classroom, Daisuke was talking with some boys from our class.

I wondered what his errand had been.

If he had told me, I could have gone with him.

After the boys left, I decided to talk to Daisuke.

“Daisuke.”

“Huh? Yuna? You surprised me…”

He looked way too shocked.

Was he hiding something?

“What were you doing today?”

“Nothing, I had something to take care of.”

He was hiding something, but why?

“I see, what about after school?”

“I’m sorry.”

Daisuke seemed cold today.

“Yeah.”

“And tomorrow?”

“I’m sorry, I won’t be able to walk to and from school with you for a while.”

The moment he said that, my mind went blank.

Why would he say something like that?

“I see, got it.”

That was all I could manage to say.

Why wouldn’t he explain anything?

Even when I tried to talk to him during break or lunchtime, he would leave the classroom right after class ended.

For some reason, he was avoiding me today.

Had I done something wrong?

After school, I looked for Daisuke and saw him coming out of the teacher’s office.

So he really did have something to do.

The teacher must have asked him for something.

I felt a little relieved.

But then Satou-san came out with him.

They were talking and laughing together.

“Daisuke…”
