- Chapter 51: The Battle Begins! Expressionless Himeno vs. Stubborn Ryoma
The day of the request. Wednesday.
After finishing her university lectures, Himeno returned home immediately.
The current time was 5 PM. There was one hour left before Ryoma would arrive at her house.
Himeno began wiping down the table and kitchen.
For the floor, she had a reliable helper: the automatic vacuum cleaner, Runbaba-kun.
Runbaba-kun was so excellent that it deserved full marks.
Since there was no need to bend down to clean, it reduced the strain on her back.
It also sucked up house dust and other debris, serving as an allergy measure.
It learned the areas that weren’t cleaned and cleaned them efficiently.
A wonderful vacuum cleaner created by humanity.
By the way, Runbaba-kun was not a trademark. It was the name that Himeno, who had developed affection for it, thoughtfully came up with.
However, it was not uncommon to give a name to an automatic vacuum cleaner.
Strangely enough, automatic vacuum cleaners often end up being treated more like pets than products.
In fact, there had been instances where an elderly woman, too attached to her automatic vacuum cleaner, would even feed it garbage.
Despite being a machine, there were surely happy automatic vacuum cleaners in the world that were treated like pets.
“Shush, swiftly wipe it off.”
Not to be outdone by the capable Runbaba-kun, Hinano sprayed disinfectant and carefully wiped down the surfaces.
Since Hinano believed that a messy room lowered her motivation to draw manga, she always kept her room clean enough to not worry about having people over.
Still, there was one more reason she was cleaning—she was going to have a man over for the first time.
As a manga artist, Hinano had studied the psychology of male readers in order to capture their hearts.
She learned that men naturally associated “women” with “cleanliness”.
A dirty room would break that association. Psychologically, it would create a negative impression and be difficult to accept.
“I don’t want Shiba to be put off…”
Himeno muttered softly.
She had a favorable view of Ryoma. His kind personality was one thing, but more than that, he understood her hobbies.
In her closet, Himeno had about six dresses hanging, all arranged with care.
On one shelf, there were headpieces, colorful hair accessories, chokers with chains, long socks with bat-wing embroidery, and over-the-knee socks with spider web embroidery.
By the entrance, there were flat shoes, classic lolita boots, and other items with decorations unfamiliar to the general public.
Naturally, Himeno had gathered these items because she liked this style.
However, her middle and high school friends… had not accepted it.
“Don’t come dressed like that when you visit, okay? People will stare.”
“That’s just way too creepy… What kind of nerve do you have?”
“Your taste is terrible. Honestly, it’s kind of off-putting.”
“…”
Memories of the past resurfaced.
It wasn’t a typical hobby. Himeno knew it was her fault for being this way, but it still made her sad, even though she had tried to come to terms with it.
Himeno’s hands stopped as she was cleaning.
But now, looking back, that past seemed insignificant.
She resumed cleaning, a smile forming on her face.
“It’s thanks to Shiba…”
There was now someone who genuinely complimented her.
The rare fashion style of Gothic and Lolita was something that Shiba had praised.
“You look good in it.”
“I envy and admire the way you express your hobbies openly.”
“People might say things from the outside, but I think it’s a waste to care about that.”
Ryoma himself would probably never know how deeply these words had impacted Himeno’s heart.
“…I hope he’ll come soon.”
Time always seemed to move slower when eagerly waiting.
Only about ten minutes had passed.
Runbaba-kun had only been working for a short while, so it was still full of energy.
(When Shiba comes… he’ll do it for me…)
The kabedon, and then patting her head.
Not only would it serve as manga reference material, but it was also something Himeno had secretly wished for.
“I wonder if Himeno will be okay… with Shiba doing something like that…”
Ryoma was completely used to being around women. This was Himeno’s view.
Since Himeno hadn’t had a boyfriend, she obviously had no experience with men. All she had were fantasies that she nurtured while drawing manga, but today, it would become reality.
(But I’ll try my best… I can’t let it show on my face…)
Himeno was determined. If her face turned red, Ryoma would probably mistake it for a fever.
If that happened, the manga lesson would be canceled, and Ryoma would shift into caring for her.
“I’ll clean a lot…”
She set her goal as to not let anything show on her face. She focused on cleaning, maintaining as much composure as possible.

“Is it really okay to do this…? Will she dislike me…?”
After his university lectures, Ryoma had some free time before the scheduled meeting, so he returned home and began reading the shoujo manga he had bought on Tuesday.
After reading, he realized that many of the stories involved the protagonist pushing forward even when the heroine was shy, often using words to pressure her.
“Stop it, this is embarrassing…”
Even though the heroine was saying this while looking down.
“Look at me. Come on.”
Without hesitation, the protagonist would lift the heroine’s chin and force her to look at him…
“I told you I hate you! Go away!”
Even though the heroine was angry.
“I just want to tease you.”
Once again, without feeling guilty, the protagonist would slowly approach the heroine, trapping her with no way to escape.
(There’s no way this isn’t too mean… She’s embarrassed and uncomfortable, so stop it already.)
This was what Ryoma was thinking.
However, this was a shoujo manga. A manga aimed at women.
For Ryoma, being a man, the appeal was different. There were parts he couldn’t relate to… However, this was the perfect development for Himeno, who was looking for things like kabedon. It could be said that this was the best way for him to learn.
“Probably… the key is distinguishing whether the heroine is really uncomfortable or not… This means these protagonists are doing some pretty intense stuff…”
If you continue doing something that the heroine disliked, she’d hate you. That was obvious.
Yet, the heroine still had feelings for the protagonist, which meant he was fulfilling her desires.
Ryoma was on the right track.
“Hm…? No, wait.”
A problem arose. A problem that only applied to this specific client.
“Himeno… doesn’t her expression never change? Right now, I can barely tell if she’s happy… if I can’t figure out whether she likes it or not…”
He realized it. The biggest crisis.
Himeno was quiet and her facial expressions were too lacking. In other words, he couldn’t tell if she was enjoying it or not.
“I’m too late to realize this… I’ve run out of options…”
Ryoma was left standing at the edge of despair, wondering if all his studying had been in vain.
The tension in his fingers loosened and the shoujo manga fell onto the desk.
Flip, flip, flip
The pages of the manga were flipped by the impact.
“Huh!?”
Ryoma widened his eyes.
By sheer coincidence, a particular scene was revealed.
“I’ll definitely peel off that fake facade of yours.”
“It’s not fake. You could never do it, senpai.”
The scene showed the delinquent protagonist, with a bad look in his eyes, making such a declaration to a heroine who showed no expression at all.
“So, that’s it. If I can break through Himeno’s blank expression…”
He could make her show the kind of expression like the heroine in the shoujo manga. That way, her emotions would be easier to read.
A breakthrough had appeared for Ryoma.
“If that’s the case, with the time left… I need to…”
Ryoma was desperate. With eyes wide open, he kept reading the manga.
Everything was to satisfy Himeno and get paid for it.
Thus, the battle began.
With Himeno determined not to let her emotions show, and Ryoma resolute in breaking through her blank expression.
