- I Started a Lover-for-Hire Service, And For Some Reason, Only Beautiful Girls Are Requesting Me
- Chapter 50: Yukiya, Fuko, and the Complicated Situation
Tuesday’s Lunch Break.
Ryoma’s best friend, Yukiya, was eating tonkatsu in the student cafeteria with his girlfriend, Fuko.
Since this morning, the university had been buzzing with gossip.
“Fu-chan, did you hear the rumor from yesterday?”
“W-Wait, you can’t call me that here! It’s embarrassing… Well, it’s not bad, but still…”
“But you’re cute when you’re embarrassed, Fuu-chan.”
“Yukki, I’m going to hit you!”
“Sorry, got carried away.”
Yukiya was with his girlfriend Fuko, and despite the university cafeteria’s calm atmosphere, he was in a lively mood because of the delicious tonkatsu.
“The rumor, it’s about my friend Himeno, right? She was walking home with a guy who’s cooler than Yukki.”
“Hey, don’t add extra stuff in there!”
“It’s not extra. You didn’t walk me home for days, so let me complain.”
As Fuko neatly removed the bones from the grilled fish, she let out a huff.
It was understandable—being unable to walk home with her boyfriend would naturally cause some dissatisfaction. The worry of whether he might be walking home with another girl would creep in. Not the best feeling at all.
“Yeah, sorry about that. It’s just I had back-to-back shifts.”
“I’ll forgive you this time… but only if you buy me one ice cream.”
“Are you really going to eat ice cream in this cold weather?”
“Ice cream in a kotatsu is the best!”
Fuko was a big fan of sweets, especially ice cream. Whenever that topic came up, she’d become lively, and seeing her happy always made Yukiya smile.
“Alright, alright, I’ll get you some Haagen-Dazs.”
“Yay! Two cups!”
“No way, just one!”
Haagen-Dazs cost 300 yen per cup at the convenience store. Two cups would be 600 yen. Although Yukiya didn’t hesitate to spend that much when giving someone a gift, in this case, his reaction was pretty justified.
“But seriously, what happened with Lori-Rin? She’s famous for not caring about having a boyfriend, so I was surprised to hear she walked home with one.”
“Oh? The all-knowing Yukki didn’t know? That’s rare!”
“So, you know what happened, Fu-chan?”
“Of course, I know. I’m friends with Himeno, remember? Are you curious?”
“Well, yeah!”
Yukiya was naturally curious about Himeno, who had publicly stated that she had no interest in getting a boyfriend. The fact that she’d walked home with him the previous day made him wonder what had changed.
“Maybe if I get two ice creams, I’ll open my mouth?”
“Damn, so it’s destined to be two in the end, huh…”
“And don’t forget, we’re going shopping too!”
“Fine, fine. I’ll get you two. Now tell me what’s going on.”
“Yes! I’ve got your word now!”
Fuko was grinning, knowing she had gotten Yukiya to agree. Not only did she get the two cups of Haagen-Dazs, but she also had a little date planned at the convenience store—something she was genuinely excited about.
“Alright, it’s a deal. So, the reason Himeno said she wasn’t interested in having a boyfriend is that she already had one!”
“What!? Really?”
Fuko didn’t know the truth. She didn’t know that Himeno was just putting on a front. In reality, there was no boyfriend. Himeno’s situation was tied to money, and that was why things seemed the way they did.
“So, she’s just using it as an excuse to keep other guys from hitting on her!”
“I see. Well, with how cute she is, it wouldn’t be surprising if she had a boyfriend.”
“Who’s cuter, me or Himeno?” Fuko, Yukiya’s girlfriend, asked, smiling but with a sharp glint in her eyes.
“Of course, it’s you. If I said Himeno, I’d be heading straight for the grave.”
“Good answer.”
The two of them could joke around like this, but deep down, Yukiya was nervous.
“But still, Himeno’s boyfriend is bold, huh? Coming to this university like that. He’s got a pretty face, but don’t you think he’s getting a bit too cocky?”
“Everyone’s got it wrong, though. Himeno-chan’s boyfriend actually goes to this university.”
“What!? That’s gotta be a lie. If that were true, there’d be rumors going around about some ‘Legal Loli Gang’ crying and coming to beat him up.”
At this university, there were two major factions: the Legal Loli Gang and the Loli-Rin Faithful Corp. To simplify:
-
- The Loli-Rin Faithful were pacifists who watched quietly from afar.
-
- The Legal Loli Gang, on the other hand were muscular, tough guys who targeted any man who dared to approach Himeno.
Both groups were relatively small, only about 5–10 people each, but they were well-known around campus.
“Oh, that’s because he disguises himself when he’s on campus.”
“Disguise? Man, I don’t like that. You’re saying he dresses flashy and gets all the attention? Ugh… But if he managed to land Loli-Rin, I guess he must be that good-looking…”
“You’d be shocked if you saw him, Yukki. The gap between his quiet side and his flashy side is amazing.”
“Huh? You’ve seen him, Fu-chan?”
“Like I said, I saw her walking home with a guy way cooler than you.”
“Wait, you were for real!? Damn!”
It was a tough pill for Yukiya to swallow. The realization that someone other than him was catching Fuko’s attention was difficult to process.
“But, I like you more, Yukki.”
“Oh, yeah… I’d be in trouble if that wasn’t the case”
Yukiya suddenly quieted down, quickly gulping down the cold water in his cup.
“Aww, look at you, all embarrassed!”
“I’m not embarrassed! So who is this ugly guy? I’m going to go check him out!”
“Haha, I have a guess, but… Yukki will probably be surprised. He’s either a year older than you or the same age. His name’s Ryoma.”
Yukiya froze, hearing a familiar name. Ryoma. His best friend’s name.
He had never imagined that the guy Fuko was talking about was none other than his closest friend. Yukiya was too shocked to respond.
If he had been holding his tonkatsu with chopsticks at that moment, it would’ve surely fallen due to gravity.
“So his name is Ryoma-kun! He’s got long bangs and glasses. On campus… he’s like the “Breath of the Shadow,” Mist Style!”
Fuko’s words were clearly influenced by a certain manga and anime she’d recently become obsessed with. She probably said it to liven up the conversation, but Yukiya was far too stunned to care about that.
“I kind of get what you mean, Fu-chan.”
But his mind wasn’t focused on that.
“Do you know what department he’s in?”
“I saw him once, I think he’s in the same department as you, Yukki? He was carrying an economics textbook.”
“Oh… okay, I see… okay…”
In that moment, Yukiya’s mind started to piece things together, and it became undeniable: Ryoma was Himeno’s boyfriend.
“What… what is going on here?”
“What’s wrong, Yukki?”
“No, it’s nothing…”
Yukiya’s mind was overwhelmed with information. He remembered what Ryoma had told him before about the first client he worked with in his “lover-for-hire” business. The description matched Himeno perfectly.
The more he thought about it, the more everything seemed to align. Ryoma, who had first done a “lover-for-hire” job, had ended up with Himeno—who had claimed she wasn’t interested in having a boyfriend—and, as it turned out, they went to the same university and somehow matched.
Even with all this information, Yukiya still couldn’t fully grasp it, and now he found out they were actually dating.
“So… how did you find out they’re dating?”
“Well, she told me they were.”
“Oh… right…”
The more Fuko spoke, the more it seemed like the two were a couple, and Yukiya couldn’t shake the growing possibility in his mind that they were indeed together.
“Fu-chan.”
“Yeah?”
“Let’s just leave them alone for now. Being talked about like this must be uncomfortable for them.”
“Yukki, you’re acting kind of weird…”
“No, I’m not.”
With that, Yukiya shoved a big piece of tonkatsu into his mouth, trying to mask his inner turmoil.
(It’s Ryoma, after all. He’s got to have some kind of plan… I can’t interfere with their relationship… I’ll just wait until he comes to me for advice.)
With that thought, Yukiya decided to let things settle for now and quietly let things unfold.
