- Chapter 17 - A Shark and a Siberian Husky
A little before the masked healer arrived at the academy.
The dorm leader of the Magic Academy’s girls’ dorm, and also a member of the Disciplinary Committee, Lucan Shahr, had a troubled look on her face.
“Hmm, this is a problem. I expected trouble when a suspicious group suddenly attacked the academy, but I didn’t think they’d break everyone’s will to fight this badly.”
It was early morning.
Over a hundred armed people had rushed into the Magic Academy and captured most of the students.
Lucan had noticed the danger right away, gathered the students who managed to escape, and led them into the old school building. They set up a barricade…
The students’ faces were pale, and their morale was at rock bottom. No one felt confident enough to fight back.
“I don’t wanna die yet!! If I have to die, at least let me drown in a bathtub full of gold coins!”
“Senpai, you’re loud.”
“How can you be so calm, Garu!? The academy has been taken over! The old building is surrounded by those weird people in white robes! They could attack us any moment!”
“My hometown was a dangerous place full of monsters. I had to risk my life every day. Thinking I might die isn’t exactly new to me…”
“Your hometown sounds insane!”
“Senpai, you’re loud.”
Even with everyone so discouraged, there were still a few students who stayed calm.
One of them was a first-year student, Garu Garwolf.
In these peaceful times with no wars between nations, it was rare for a young noble to be this tough.
(I wanted to scout him for the Disciplinary Committee, but I didn’t want to make an enemy out of Cainsetts-sama, the baron’s daughter, whose family opened several new sea routes and brought huge profits to the kingdom. I’d better give up.)
She shook her head.
Right now, the only thing that mattered was figuring out how to escape this crisis, not recruiting promising underclassmen.
“Everyone, can you listen for a moment? Is there anyone here who’s confident in their combat skills?”
Only a few students raised their hands, just a handful out of the few dozen gathered there.
Most of them were second or third-year students.
Thinking about how hard it would be to escape the academy while protecting the students who couldn’t fight, Lucan frowned again.
“I guess we have no choice.”
“W-wait, Lucan!! What are you planning to do!?”
“I’m going to leave the old school building and take down the leader of the enemy group. If I take out their boss, their chain of command will fall apart, and everyone might be able to escape. So everyone who can fight, stay here and protect the others.”
“W-wait, Lucan Shahr!!”
The one who stopped her as she tried to leave was Jiluo Arnall, the son of the Duke Arnall.
“If we stay here, the knights will come save us! There’s no need to run out there!”
“I don’t think the knights will attack while we’re being held as hostages. In that case, isn’t it better if we take out the leader while the knights and the terrorists are stuck staring at each other?”
“T-That’s!!”
“…You shouldn’t move at all. You got slashed badly by the terrorists.”
“Argh.”
Jiluo was missing an arm.
When he was running away from the terrorists, one of them cut it off with a sword.
A nearby member of the health committee used healing magic on him, but the bleeding had been too heavy. His face was pale and he looked like he could die any moment.
At that sight, Frude Cainsetts from the Broadcasting Committee let out a scream.
“It’s all my fault!! I was screaming and running around, and that drew the terrorists over! And then I pushed them toward Duke Arnall, who just happened to be nearby!!”
“Senpai, I seriously question you as a person. Well, Duke Arnall trying to use his servants as decoys wasn’t much better, though.”
“Hmph! My life is more important than a bunch of nobodies!”
“You’re all trash, seriously. Really.”
The one who said that in complete disgust was Garu, the fluffy Siberian Husky.
Garu stood up and spoke to Lucan.
“Shahr-senpai, if you’re going to take down the enemy, I’m going with you.”
“Oh? I don’t mind, but just know that it’s dangerous.”
“My buddy is missing. He might’ve been caught by the terrorists, so I have to go help him.”
“Oh? I like kids who care about their friends. Alright then, let’s go.”
And so, a strange-looking team was formed, a shark and a Siberian Husky.
The two stepped out of the old school building’s front doors and faced the armed group in white robes.
Garu glared at them and muttered under his breath.
“…They’re all skilled fighters. What a pain.”
“There’s a lot of them… Maybe I should use that.”
“That?”
“Heheheh. As your upperclassman, I’ll show you something cool. Can you buy me just a little time?”
“Eh!?”
Lucan began chanting a spell. Garu was suddenly told to stall the enemy as he dug in his claws and charged at the white-robed attackers rushing toward him.
“Ghyah, these guys!! What the hell kind of strength is this!? They’re boosting their bodies with magic!?”
“…O Lord… save us… O Lord… save us…”
“What!? What are you muttering about!? You’re creeping me out!!”
Garu kicked one of them away and slashed another deeply with his claws.
But even though they should have taken fatal damage, the white robes got back up without caring about their wounds, picked up their weapons, and attacked again.
“You’ve got to be kidding me!! That should’ve been a killing blow!!”
“…O Lord… save us… O Lord… save us…”
“You’re seriously annoying!! Even Cainsetts-senpai is quieter than you!!”
“Dog-kun, I’m done chanting! You can fall back now!”
“Got it!! And I’m a wolf, not a dog!! Please don’t get that wrong!!”
Garu kicked one last white robe away and jumped backward.
“Great Sea Summon [Tritone].”
“Whoa!? W-What is this magic!?”
“It’s my original spell. I turn the whole area into the sea.”
From the huge magic circle that appeared under Lucan’s feet, an impossible amount of seawater burst out.
She had adjusted it so the old school building wouldn’t be damaged, but the scene was still like she had summoned an entire ocean by herself.
Roaring waves swept the white robes away and swallowed them whole.
Using the current, Lucan swam through the water at incredible speed and began firing magic at the enemies.
“A shark really has to swim in the sea!?”
“H-hey, Senpai!! I can’t swi ―Gluob, gubobobobo!!”
Garu was swept away along with the white robes, and Lucan hurriedly dove over, grabbed him, and pulled him onto her back.
“Sorry, sorry. I thought you could at least dog-paddle.”
“Geh, cough, cough. Hahh, hahh, I told you, I’m a wolf.”
“Then let’s wipe out the enemies at this pace!!”
“H-hey, you’re―”
A shark with a Siberian Husky on its back shot across the ocean at crazy speed.
If the wandering healer with memories of his past life saw this scene, he would probably think.
This looks like a B-grade movie.

A water pillar rose in the distance.
Maybe one of the students was fighting those people in white.
I could also sense someone hurt. I wanted to hurry over and heal them but…
“Nice to meet you, Faceless-san. I am Veltica, the Cardinal of ‘Wrath’ from the White Church. I’m the one leading this attack. Please remember my name.”
What should I do?
A girl dressed in a pure white robe, while wearing a mirror-like mask, bowed politely to me.
I never thought the leader of this middle-school syndrome group would be a child.
