Chapter 38 – First Name Basis
[Suzuki Hajime’s POV]
While Yuna-san and Hanai-san were talking in the limousine, I was sitting on a bench in the park waiting.
Yuna-san’s smile made me feel pressured. Is she angry? Is she angry because she saw me walking happily with another woman, despite her affection for me?
Hanai-san is a very good friend.
But if someone asked me if I see her as a woman, honestly, I do. To be honest, I find her a soothing presence, and while I think of her as a friend, I also find myself seeing her as a woman.
I turned my eyes towards the limousine, but I couldn’t see what was going on inside.
After a while, the two of them got out of the limousine.
Yuna-san waved to me that she was going home, and Anzai-san drove off.
But Hanai-san’s face still looked a little tense, though it didn’t look like they were fighting.
When our eyes met, Hanai-san smiled.
“Welcome back, Hanai-san. What were you talking about?”
“We were just having a girl talk. It’s a secret, so I can’t tell Suzuki-san.”
“…Is that so?”
“Are you curious?”
“Y-yes.”
“Fufu, that’s no good. It’s a secret between women.”
Hanai-san’s answer made me feel a little uneasy.
What did Yuna say to Hanai-san?
“I understand. I won’t ask any more questions. But, if anything happens, please let me know anytime.”
“Yes, I understand. Fufu, don’t worry.”
Hanai-san smiled mischievously, exuding a seductive aura that was somehow different from her usual gentle and fluffy aura.
After that, we continued talking as we walked through the park again.
But unlike the usual calming atmosphere, Hanai-san seemed distant, spending a lot of time in a daze.
Seeing Hanai-san’s demeanor, I couldn’t bring myself to ask her anything deeper, feeling a sense of guilt within me.
Every time I saw her smile, the guilt about my relationship with Yuna-san grew inside my heart.
While Yuna-san was talking to Hanai-san, many thoughts ran through my mind.
What did Yuna-san think? What was she saying to Hanai-san? How did Hanai-san feel about me?
I don’t understand women’s feelings at all.
Maybe Hanai-san thinks I’m a pervert trying to make a move on a high school girl?
Well, that’s not completely wrong, and I can’t really deny it.
Just thinking that their conversation might have been about me fills me with unease.
“Thank you for today.”
Before I knew it, my time with Hanai-san came to an end, and it was time to say goodbye.
I felt lonely, but the fact that she didn’t say anything only made anxiety build up in my heart.
“Hey, Suzuki-san.”
“Yes?”
“We’re friends, right?”
“Yes, we’re friends.”
“Then, as friends, why don’t we call each other by our first names to become closer?”
“First names?”
“Yes! I’ll call you Hajime-san. So please call me Anju.”
Hanai-san’s suggestion was to become closer to me.
Apparently, after talking with Yuna-san, she doesn’t seem to have grown to dislike me.
I felt relieved.
If calling each other by our first names means we’ll be closer as friends, it feels like we’ve grown closer than before.
“Um, is that okay?”
“Yes! We’re friends, after all.”
“Then…Anju-san.”
“Yes! Hajime-san. I look forward to continuing our friendship.”
“Y-yes!”
I was incredibly nervous just calling her by her name. But when I did, Anju-san’s smile looked really dazzling.
