Episode 16: Isn’t That Flag Raised Way Too Fast?
Today was the first day of committee meetings. Narita and I decided to join the library committee, thinking it would probably be the least popular option. From what we’d heard, the workload didn’t seem too heavy either.
We chose to sit quietly off to the side.
“Oh, it’s the person who helped me hide the other day! Thanks again for that~.”
Students began gathering in the assigned classroom, and among them was a standout beauty—Natsuki.
Seriously? Isn’t it way too soon to be triggering that flag…
“Natsuki, what’s this about hiding you?”
“You know that extra lesson I had the other day? These guys let me hide from the teacher for a bit.”
“You ran away, Natsuki?”
“Yeah, but I passed the extra lesson in the end!”
“Well, that’s true. You did manage to pass.”
The person next to Natsuki was probably a fellow committee member from her class. She had a cute, gentle aura about her.
“Glad you passed.”
Narita chimed in.
“Yeah! I don’t ever want to go through that again…”
“The midterms are coming up next, and they’re not that far off…”
“Ahh, don’t remind me! I’m already scared just thinking about it. What kind of challenges will it bring this time…”
“You’re already assuming you’ll be in extra lessons.”
“I mean, I have so much practice to do, it can’t be helped!”
“Practice?”
“Yup. Natsuki’s in the sports specialty class.”
“Ah, that makes sense. What sport are you in for?”
“Natsuki’s in track and field.”
“She was already fast in middle school.”
“You’ve known each other since middle school?”
“I’m in the general education track, but yeah. We’ve always been close, so we decided to join the same committee. Right, Natsuki?”
“Yep. But I didn’t think I’d end up in the same group as the people from the other day. Looking forward to working together!”
I had thought I wouldn’t cross paths with her again.
“Yeah, same here. Oh, I guess I haven’t introduced myself yet. I’m Shunichi Narita.”
“Nice to meet you. I’m Kaede Nishikouji.”
“Likewise! I’m Yuka Ikuta.”
As the atmosphere grew friendlier, the committee leader spoke up.
“Alright, let’s begin the meeting. First, split into groups of four. Each group will be assigned specific tasks.”
At the leader’s direction, everyone started moving. Naturally, this was bound to happen…
“Mind if we stick together, Narita-kun, Nishikouji-kun?”
“We didn’t have any group mates either.”
“Perfect, then!”
Yeah, of course it would turn out like this.
After a brief discussion, our group was assigned the task of organizing books.
“The activities officially start tomorrow during lunch break, right?”
“Looks like we’ll be seeing each other right away.”
“And it’s only once a week after that.”
So now I’ll be interacting with one of the heroines through committee work. Lately, it’s been feeling less like getting involved spells doom for me, but I still can’t let my guard down. After all, in the original story, my death came as a result of my villainous actions. Then again, depending on the route, I’ve died in random, absurd accidents too.
“Alright, see you tomorrow.”
“Yeah, see you then.”
We parted ways in front of the classroom.
One year of being on the same committee as a heroine, starting tomorrow. I’ll have to stay sharp.
