- Chapter 7 - Adventurer's Guild (2)
“Riora!”
The receptionist screamed what looked like the adventurer’s name. The girl had messy crimson red hair with yellow eyes that looked aggressive and sharp, small wings on her back? A dragon’s wing but miniature in size and a tail which blocked Dran’s attack. She looked like a person that was difficult to be involved with. While standing between us, the female adventurer called out to Dran.
“Hey, Dran! Are you still up with your old tricks? Bullying the new guy again?”
“Shut up, Riora. It’s none of your business.”
“Wanna fight?”
Dran pulled back his outstretched fist and then took a step back. His eyes filled with anger and still determined to fight. However, he knows his limit very well and being a Rank D adventurer, Dran would surely lose in a one on one fight with a Rank A adventurer which I had scanned while they were talking.
[Name: Riora Draug
Class: Dragonewt
Level: 50
Adventurer Rank: A
Job: Fighter
Skills: Dragon Breath (Rank 3), Dragon Blood (Rank 3), Dragon Fist (Rank 2)
Condition: Bored]
“I’ll remember this.”
THERE IT IS! The classic cliche revenge line from a petty villain! Dran looked so mad that his veins were popping out of his forehead. Well, who would want to go against a Rank A adventurer? Also, a dragon class to boot! Although my level has increased, I am no way near Riora’s status.
“T-Thank goodness you’ve arrived in time, Riora. Thank you.” The receptionist said, falling down onto the floor. She looked too flustered, with sweats visible all over her face.
“Huh? A-ah, yeah. I’m glad you’re okay Maria. Ha-ha-ha!”
Although confused, Riora accepted Maria (the guild receptionist’s name) with a forced laughter. She looked like she had other motives besides stopping the fight. Was her real intention to fight Dran? It can be said that dragon-like classes are battle maniacs.
“And what about you? Wanna continue the fight? Except your opponent will be none other than me?”
As I thought, Riora’s motive was to fight. Well, I had also missed my chance testing my strength but there will be more opportunities in the future.
“I’ll pass. My goal here is to become an adventurer and not to fight.”
“What a wussy!”
I won’t fall for her provocations, I thought to myself. Plus, I was telling the truth. I need to become an adventurer fast and earn money so I can purchase her. Suddenly, Maria’s voice screamed, calling out to the dragon girl.
“R-Riora! No fighting inside the guild hall!”
“I understand, I was just joking. Cut me some slack.”
After Riora said that, the tense atmosphere died down and the onlookers dissipated. Her fighting spirit was no joke. It felt like daggers were pricking my skin.
After adjusting herself, Maria faced me and continued her explanation.
“There are ranks in the adventurer class: SS->S->A->B->C->D->E->F. An adventurer starts off at the lowest rank F, and then earns achievement points by doing adventurer quests found on that bulletin board. Upon achieving enough points, the adventurer can take the rank up test. The higher you go up in rank, the more rare materials you can get. Also, the guild can buy your materials. Whenever you take up a quest, just go to this counter to get it approved first. Is everything good so far?”
“Yes.” I answered with vigor and excitement. Being an adventurer like those in novels was every man’s dream. And I was lucky enough to be here. My smile was probably from ear to ear right now. Maybe sensing my excitement, Maria laughed and proceeded.
“Fufufu. Alright. For the adventurer’s test, we require you to get a special stone from a slime dungeon with supervision from a guild tester to evaluate your skills. However, we have no one available right now…”
Maria looked deep in thought. What should I do now? Time is running out and I can only set my plan in motion inside a dungeon. Flustered with anxiety, I asked Maria.
“Is there any way or another type of exam that I can take? I badly needed to earn money right now.”
“AH! There is! Rank A adventurers can become witnesses and it so happens that we have a person who meets the requirements perfectly!”
We both looked towards Riora at the same time. My only choice was to get this battle maniac go with me on my test. With glistening eyes, Maria stared directly towards Riora and said.
“Will you do me a favor and please become this adventurer’s examiner?”
“What??? Do you expect me to babysit a newcomer? I refuse!”
“Can’t you?”
Maria got closer towards Riora’s face. It looked like Riora was weak towards Maria. The scene I’m witnessing now will be loved by many of the GL fans out there. Riora was so flustered that I wanted to tease and laugh at her but I managed to contain it. With Maria’s stare, Riora had no choice but to give up and follow Maria’s wishes.
“Sigh, alright. So, what’s your name?”
“Kryon von Aurus?”
“Huh, sounds like a noble trash name. Anyways, the name’s Riora Draug. Call me Riora. I’ll call you Kryon.”
“Yeah, nice to meet you too, Riora.”
I extended my hand toward Riora, shaking her hand in greeting. Her hand was full of calluses, probably due to having lots of experiences in the battlefield.
“For now. I’ll need to talk to Riora in private. Please prepare yourself in the meantime, Kryon-kun. Let’s meet again here in 30 minutes. Then Riora, come this way.”
“Alright.”
I bet they’ll talk about how to grade me in this dungeon. Although I was fully prepared, it’s not a bad thing to double check my items.
And after a small briefing, Riora and I headed out towards the slime dungeon.
