Chapter 06: Appointed as the Fanservice Heroine’s Comfort Role
“Huh…?”
As I completely froze, my brain running at full throttle, Mitsushima kept going.
“Because this is something I can only ask you to do. I don’t know why, but you seem to know everything about me and Yaohara. You even saw the exact moment I got dumped. And honestly, it’s way better than talking to a wall, right? At least there’s some payoff when I complain.”
“…That’s a pretty awful comparison. Am I just a replacement wall or something?”
“But aren’t you a way better wall than that dense idiot? You gave me a handkerchief, comforted me with those intense words, and even lent me your chest.”
I still didn’t fully understand what she was getting at, but Mitsushima kept talking anyway.
“So starting today, you’re eating lunch with me here. To be honest, you don’t even have to comfort me properly. Just listen to my complaints and nod along like ‘mm-hmm,’ and that’s enough.”
“…Okay, blunt question—but what’s the compensation?”
When I asked that without thinking, Mitsushima picked up the bento she’d left beside her, grabbed a meatball skewered with a toothpick, and lazily spun it right in front of my eyes.
“How about my homemade lunch as payment? You really liked it, didn’t you? I’ll put in whatever side dishes you want.”
“Guh…”
I let out a low groan and put on a show of seriously thinking it over, but honestly, I already knew—I was more than halfway sold.
Even if I was just a mob character who didn’t really get involved in the story, the main romance between Nayuta Yaohara and Chloe Mitsushima was already settled. No matter how much I butted in now, it probably wouldn’t cause any major changes to the future plot.
Sure, there was the question of whether a low-presence, bargain-bin mob like me had any right getting close to someone this dazzling.
But this world was the romcom manga I’d loved so much—and the person standing right in front of me was one of its main heroines.
And besides—
I couldn’t deny that I was getting a little curious.
The Chloe Mitsushima I’d always thought of as bold, tough, and carefree was actually taking the rejection way harder than I’d expected. She made homemade bentos. She couldn’t let go of her heartbreak at all…
These were sides of her you’d never see just from reading the original story.
And before I knew it, I wanted to get to know her just a little more.
See?
As if urging me to answer, the meatball swayed right in front of my eyes.
I made up my mind—
And took a big bite out of it.
“Oh? So that means the contract’s officially sealed, right?”
“Yeah. If a wall like me can be useful, I’m happy to help. …Man, this is good. Really good. So this is what meat actually tastes like…”
“Ahaha, you’re getting way too moved. Just so you know, that’s frozen food.”
“Still way more effort than the godawful porridge they serve at hospitals.”
“Alright then! First things first, let’s exchange LINE, Jeromiya! That way we can contact each other anytime, right!? Come on, take out your phone!”
“Eh—L-LINE!? You can use that to exchange contacts with people other than family!?”
“Huh? Of course you can. …Jeromiya, don’t tell me you’ve never exchanged LINE with a friend before? Wow, that’s just sad…!”
“H-Hey, stop looking at me like that…!”
Anyway, that day, I somehow ended up becoming “friends” with Chloe Mitsushima—one of the main heroines of the romcom manga Schrödinger’s Love.
Though it was a pretty strange kind of friendship, where Mitsushima unilaterally dumped her complaints on me and sulked endlessly, and I comforted her in exchange for homemade bento.

Even something simple like—“( ゚∀゚)o彡°”would make the author really happy.
Thank you very much!

I just hope he gets a clue. Chapter 2 was all about him badmouthing the protagonist about being dense and such… it would he awfully hypocritical of him if he ends up acting oblivious of her approaches.
I do like it, I really really do but Im worried that hes going to keep the low confidence. I just want them to be happy and move forward together, without the weird drama of other people mixed in.
This is really good 👍
