Chapter 3: The Transfer Student Who Is Said to Be an Angel Has Arrived
It was already mid-April. As usual, I was heading to school with Hina.
Hina and I would walk to school together every day unless we had other plans. There wasn’t any particular reason for this. It was just a habit that had been with us since elementary school.
At around 7:00 in the morning, she would barge into my room, jump onto my bed where I was soundly sleeping, and straddle me. The weight of her on my stomach would wake me up, and then we would go to school together. That was our usual morning routine.
“Good morning, Hina-chan!”
“Good morning! Another beautiful morning, huh?”
“Unasu-san! You’re looking as beautiful as ever today!”
“Thank you. You look great too!”
“Ugh… that smile… it’s amazing…”
Hina was as popular as ever. She was constantly greeted by passing students.
After dodging the barrage of greetings from her followers, I entered the classroom and noticed the atmosphere was strangely restless.
The guys, in particular, were noisy. Wondering what was going on, I caught up with Kenji, who was chatting with some other boys.
“Kenji, what’s going on?”
“Takayasu, big news! It turns out a transfer student is coming to this class today! And she’s a super beautiful girl!”
“Really?”
It was rare for a transfer student to join a high school class, especially halfway through the semester.
And a beautiful girl? Now I understood why the boys were making a fuss.
“How do you know a transfer student is coming?”
“Well, I went to the staff room earlier, and there was a girl I hadn’t seen before. She was talking to our homeroom teacher, Kaizuka, so I overheard their conversation… and found out she’s transferring to our class!”
“Interesting…”
Beside Kenji, another classmate named Suzuki, a quiet boy with glasses and a bowl-cut hairstyle, was getting excited.
Suzuki wasn’t normally this expressive, so it must have been because that girl was so cute.
“Is she really that cute?”
“No, she’s not just cute… she’s incredibly beautiful! She’s on the same level as Unasu-san. If we call Unasu-san the ‘Goddess,’ then this girl… she could definitely be called an ‘Angel’!”
“An Angel…?”
“Did I say something wrong?”
As we were talking about the transfer student, Hina interrupted us. It was probably because she heard the word “Goddess.” She had excellent hearing.
“A girl who’s just as cute as me is transferring to our class.”
“…Me? Well, I’m looking forward to having a new classmate! Should we throw a welcome party for her?”
I told Hina about the transfer student. She briefly made a displeased face, but then quickly returned to her usual smile and continued chatting with Kenji and Suzuki.
It was rare for Hina to show such an expression in front of everyone.
She was probably worried that the new cute girl would take away the attention she usually received.
Jealousy between women… it’s scary.
“Sounds great, a welcome party! As expected of Unasu-san, you’re always thinking ahead.”
“Where should we hold it? Karaoke by the station? Or maybe a buffet?”
“Yes! I’d prefer the buffet!”
“I vote for karaoke! I wonder if they have any new songs?”
After the three of them got excited over the welcome party discussion, I went to my seat to drop off my bag.
However, when I got there, I noticed a new desk had been added to the back row, on the aisle side, right next to my seat.
It hadn’t been there yesterday.
It seemed that the beautiful transfer student was going to sit next to me.
A new classmate in 2nd-year F class. “I wonder what kind of girl she is?” I thought, as I transferred my things from my bag to my desk.
Time passed, and it was soon time for the morning SHR (short homeroom).
It seemed the whole class knew about the transfer student by now, as everyone was fidgeting and restless while the teacher went over the announcements.
“Well, I think I’ve covered all the announcements for today… Now, you’ve all probably noticed already, but… we have a new transfer student joining this class. Alright, come in!”
With our homeroom teacher Kaizuka’s words, the door to the classroom opened, and a girl walked in. Kaizuka wrote her name on the board.
“Angel Akua.” …It seems “Angel” is written as “Tenshi” in kanji.
“Everyone, please welcome Angel Akua. She’ll be joining our class from today!”
The much-talked-about transfer student stood in front of the class and began her introduction.
“Hello, I’m Angel Akua, as I was just introduced. I was supposed to transfer at the start of the new semester, but due to some circumstances, I was delayed. I look forward to getting along with all of you from now on.”
And then, she smiled with an angelic expression. Her beauty made the entire classroom buzz with excitement.
“An angel… There’s an angel here!”
“Whoa—! I’m switching from ‘Goddess worship’ to ‘Angel worship’ from now on!”
“Ah… what a lovely smile, if Unasu-san’s smile is called ‘The Goddess’s Smile,’ then hers should be ‘The Angel’s Smile’!”
“Ugh, nosebleed… such a beautiful smile…”
Her hair was long, silver, and silky, reaching all the way to her waist, with the tips tied in a ribbon. Her skin was as pale as her hair, and combined with her delicate body, she gave off a fragile, sacred impression, like she could break if touched.
Her face was a bit more youthful for a high school student, and she looked more cute than beautiful.
She was a little shorter than Hina, who was 163 cm. So, the angel was probably around 158 cm, about average for a woman’s height. Her figure appeared delicate and slender at first, but when you looked closely… she had the right curves in all the right places.
I finally understood why Suzuki and the others were calling her “Angel.” Her divine and adorable presence immediately made one think of an angel.
However, I felt a slight discomfort with her “Angel’s Smile.”
Sure, it was a lovely smile. But for some reason, something felt off about it.
…I had a feeling I’d seen something similar before, but I couldn’t quite remember.
“Alright, Angel… Your seat will be at the back on the aisle side, right next to Ogami… that guy with the weird face.”
“Understood.”
She walked over to sit next to me, smiling her “Angel’s Smile” as she sat down.
“Nice to meet you, Ogami-kun ♪”
