Prince Adolf couldn’t believe his eyes. He never expected the fake demons would be this powerful. He thought the only large-scale magic they had was the massive explosion that Nia summoned when they destroyed the church. Moreover, the boy in front of him—Kai—had always fought in a subtle manner, manipulating enemies through mind control rather than causing any flashy destruction. Although Adolf didn’t know Kai’s true strength, but it was clear to see he had underestimated Kai. He thought since Kai only had half of the fake demon’s power, Kai couldn’t be stronger than Nia, and yet…

The boy before him looked more like the incarnation of death itself or a demonic fiend. The boy was enveloped in an aura of madness. The black wind whirled violently around him. Seemingly having regained a bit of his senses, Kai stopped moving and turned his attention toward the Crown Prince. Even just being stared at by Kai made Adolf’s knees go weak. However, he mustered every strength in his body to maintain his composure and pointed at the unconscious Chloe. 

“At this rate, that woman will die.”

“UGH-?! Hiiie-?!”

The moment Adolf mentioned the death of Chloe, the storm of darkness raged even more fiercely than before. The sky turned black. The sheer amount of intimidation was at the scale Adolf had never experienced before. A menacing level beyond the realm of this world. The Crown Prince let out a pitiful shriek, but he quickly collected himself and managed to squeeze out a response from his parched throat.

“That woman is under the curse of black magic!! Her cells are withering away as we speak now! If she’s not healed with high-level holy magic within the next three hours, her whole body will wither away which in turn leads to her death! In other words, your time is running short!”

“Ugh-?! You want to save her, don’t you?! Then follow my words! If you leave now, I promise I won’t harm the rest of your companions!”

Kai’s eyes opened wide. He seemed to have regained a bit of his sanity as he stared at the Crown Prince without saying anything. 

Good. Maybe I can get through him now. 

Seeing an opportunity, the Crown Prince raised his voice again.

“Just so you, it’s best if you don’t try anything stupid! I’m the demon in prophecy! There’s a real demon within the royal palace. A true monster that can devour human souls and controls all forms of black magic! If you break your promise, I will summon that demon right here and now!”

“I know you are strong, but there’s no way you can defeat that monster within 3 hours! While you’re fighting, your companion will suffer and die from the curse! Do you understand your position now?! Huh? Fake demon??”

Albeit he was shaking, the Crown Prince managed to finish his speech. Truth to be told, his claims weren’t just empty threats. There was indeed a monster behind him. A powerful demon that had granted him the power of black magic in exchange for human souls. The trigger that caused Kai to unleash his full power must be that assassin girl. Seeing his companion on the verge of death, the boy lost his reason and went berserk. Since the boy valued the girl’s life so much, he would surely not continue to resist after what the Crown Prince had told him.

However, a chilling voice entered the Crown Prince’s ear. Another girl seemed to have appeared out of nowhere. Jolts of electricity immediately coursed through the Crown Prince’s spine again. His whole body turned cold. 

“All of you… Die, die, die, die—”

The girl was crying tears of blood. She clenched her hands together and her red eyes glowed even more intensely than before. The sky started to be covered by dark clouds again. The telltale sign of hell was about to descend before the imperial castle again when—

“…Nia.”

Kai’s low voice seemed to echo through the space. Nia suddenly stopped moving and looked up at Kai, who was now standing beside her. Though Kai’s demonic appearance hadn’t faded yet and his red eyes remained full of killing intent, Kai had enough reason left in him to make a proper judgment. 

The most important thing right now to Kai was Chloe’s life.

“Give Chloe back.”

“…Alright. But you need to get out of here first. We will hand you over near the entrance.”

Adolf knew he mustn’t lose his position here. Although the Crown Prince said that with bravado, but he soon regretted his statement.

“UGH-?!”

Just like what happened to Nia, Kai’s red eyes began to shine even more intensely than before. His fury quickly transformed into murderous intent, which in turn made the violent black storm to rage even more. The Crown Prince’s angry roar caused Goering to flinch. With a sense of resignation, Goering released Chloe from his hold and pushed her towards them.

In an instant, the two figures that used to look so demonic, shed their terrifying appearance and rushed toward Chloe. Kai caught Chloe mid-air with his entire body and Nia cradled her face with both hands. Chloe was breathing heavily, looking clearly in pain.

“Healing Wave!”

Kai cast the holy magic and Chloe, who was tethering between the edge of death and life, stirred slightly and began to open her eyes.

“Chloe… Chloe…”

Witnessing the touching scene upon opening her eyes, Chloe let out a weak smile. Despite the intense pain still coursing through her body, Chloe saw Kai, who was biting his lower lip in frustration and Nia, who was crying like a child. She saw just how much these two cherished her.

Even Nia, who had completely lost her reason, was able to calm down a bit upon seeing Chloe’s face. She nodded obediently and stood next to Kai. However, before they left the royal palace… 

With a faint smile on his face, Kai turned his head around to look at Prince Adolf.
