I Got Fired as a Hero Today - Vol.3 Chapter 93: Half-Dark Elf
“Cornella-san!”
The sound of someone banging on the door echoed through the room.
“Yes, yes.”
Cornella hurriedly made her way to the door.
“It’s me! Arata!”
“What is it? You’re in quite a hurry. What’s going on… huh? What’s that?”
As Cornella opened the door, her eyes fell on the figure Arata was holding.
“I found them collapsed in the street. Their wounds seem deep, so I want you to examine them.”
Arata decided to help 103 Number after all.
“You picked up someone who looked suspicious.”
“Actually, they’re one of those who are monitoring us heroes.”
Arata explained the situation, realizing there was no point in hiding it.
“Phew! Hyah-hyah-hyah. Could this be the rumored Numbers? I never thought they actually existed.”
“Do you know about them?”
“I was a member of the Hero’s Rights Protection Association. I’ve heard the rumors. That wizard is at the top of the watchlist.”
Cornella turned on her heel and gestured for him to follow.
Cornella’s residence is underground, but there is also a basement.
They descend the dark stairs with a candle.
Arata followed while carrying 103 Number like a princess.
It was a small room with a simple wooden bed and a small table.
Shelves lined with glass bottles and herbs were arranged.
“What about this room?”
“It’s more of a research lab that also serves as a clinic. Even so, I’m just a novice healer. Not that I run a business or anything—it’s just an old lady’s hobby. Now, take off that person’s robe.”
“Um… about that…”
“What is it?”
Arata hesitated. Cornella despised that existence. But it wouldn’t start without showing it.
Arata placed 103 Number on the medical bed and removed their robe.
Cornella’s expression changed rapidly. Their brown skin, silver hair, and pointed ears were their distinguishing features.
“A dark elf, so a monster?”
Arata read the emotion from Cornella’s expression.
“A monster is a monster, but… this is… an unwanted child!”
“An unwanted child?”
A half-dark elf.
A child born from the union of a dark elf and a human.
“For a human to love a monster… Young man, please just throw them away.”
“Throw them away… Cornella-san, can’t we do something about this?”
If left alone, they would die. Arata grabbed Cornella’s shoulders.
“What is it?”
“Cornella-san, I want to help this child.”
Arata and Cornella’s gazes met. Caught off guard by Arata’s serious look, Cornella muttered, “Shuuichi…”
“Shuuichi?”
Cornella snapped back to reality and said.
“N-no, I meant something else. Seriously, why are heroes always like this…”
Cornella grumbled under her breath.
And as if giving up, she sighed.
“Hah… I don’t want to touch something like this. If you really insist, then you can treat them yourself, young man.”
“Huh?! Me? …That’s a bit much to ask, don’t you think? Just a moment ago, Cornella-san said it too. A hero who hasn’t received training as a healer can’t heal even with healing magic.”
“I did say that. However, young man, you don’t use healing magic. If it’s the skill [Ancient Healer], no training is necessary. The occurrence of the skill happens under certain conditions. Medical knowledge is not required for that.”
Unlike healing magic, which requires advanced control, the skill [Healer] can be used as long as they have acquired it.
However, it seems that very few people actually possess the healing skill.
“Do you know how to use the skill [Ancient Healer], Cornella-san?”
Cornella crossed her arms. After a moment of contemplation, she muttered softly.
“My grandmother had the skill [Ancient Healer]… I received an oral explanation, just in case.”
“I see, so you knew.”
“Hmm. I didn’t want to get too involved.”
Arata ended up receiving Cornella’s guidance.
“Got it? First, you need to understand where the patient is injured. First, take off their clothes.”
“Huh? Take them off… even though they’re a child…”
Cornella remained silent and unmoving.
It seems to be a declaration that she will speak up, but she has no intention of getting involved.
Arata resigned himself and took off the clothes. If he were to die, it would be all for nothing.
The black clothes had several small pockets, and hidden knives were also concealed within. They were indeed tailored like a spy’s outfit.
The underwear had a shape similar to a sports bra, with just a slight bulge in the chest.
The sides were torn, stained with dark red blood. Additionally, there were countless old scars all over her body, telling the story of her harsh duties as a spy.
Arata felt pity for a girl like her, whose skin was in such a terrible state.
“Isn’t there a display of the [Ancient Healer] skill on the status screen?”
“Yes, there is.”
Arata answered as he opened the status screen.
“What does the screen look like?”
“There’s a gauge, and it’s about half green.”
“That gauge is likely the remaining energy for healing others. So, it’s currently half full.”
“The other day, I took a panacea. Then this gauge appeared.”
“Another high-end item… In other words, Arata’s injuries and illnesses need to heal, and the surplus will accumulate in the gauge, right?”
“So, does that mean the [Ancient Healer] won’t activate unless I’m in good health?”
“You understand well. There’s a saying about doctors not taking care of themselves, but that doesn’t apply to the user of this skill. Now, for the treatment, first place your hands on the affected area.”
“Yes.”
Arata pressed both palms against the wound on her side.
Blood flowed steadily, dripping between his fingers.
“If you do that, the skill will activate. Ah, there was a point to note. Well, that is…”
―――It was something he would understand immediately… but that voice didn’t reach him.
What the hell?! Arata’s vision darkened.
