Chapter 40: The Girl With Red Eyes

Luna-sama glared at us, suspicious. 

I couldn’t argue back, not when I knew whatever excuse I could come up with would be going against the common social etiquette of this world. And yet, I still tried to plead my case. 

“Taking a bath together is not a bad thing though….”

“No, it’s definitely suspicious.”

She’s right. Even though I have knowledge from my previous life, I still can’t win against her logic. 

While still keeping a watchful eye on us, Luna-sama pressed a question to Elena-sama.

“Kanato-san’s status as a commoner is not the issue here. The issue is several people of the opposite sex taking a bath together. A beautiful lady like you should know what’s the implications behind that, right?”

“….That’s right but my case with Kanato is different…..”

Elena-sama said but her words were lacking in confidence. 

Then, Rina chimed in, trying to provide her support.

“Luna-sama.”

“Hm?”

“Onii-sama is not like that.”

“…..I’m very aware of that but still, it’s inappropriate for a man to bathe together with women. Rina-san, I’m not trying to criticize you or anything but you have to know, the social etiquette is even worse for nobles.”

“…..”

After hearing Luna-sama’s flawless argument, Rina looked dejected for a bit before a faint smile emerged on her face. 

“Then, Luna-sama, why don’t you join us in the hot springs too?”

“Pa-Pardon?!”

Caught off guard by Rina’s unexpected suggestion, Luna-sama flinched. On the other side, Elena-sama and I were staring at Rina with wide eyes, equally surprised. 

Undeterred, Rina continued on. 

“Taking a bath with Onii-sama is very important for me. Of course, it’s important for Elena-sama too… So no matter how much Luna-sama tries to stop us, we won’t. We will still keep bathing with Onii-sama.”

Rina isn’t very familiar with the rules and social etiquette of the nobles.

In the first place, we’re only commoners. I want Rina to live freely without being restricted to the social constrict. In other words, Rina’s bold attitude stems from her ignorance of the world. 

However, ignorance isn’t necessarily a bad thing. 

Luna-sama looked obviously bewildered. She glanced at me and Rina alternately before she suddenly lowered her gaze. Her cheeks flushed in pink.

“If you’re going to insist to that extent then I suppose…. There’s no helping it I guess. However…. “

Luna-sama took a deep breath before she pointed at me and shouted loudly.

“I’LL BE SURE TO KEEP A WATCH ON YOU CLOSELY!”

In the Hot Spring

“Onii-sama~ I’ve done my best today~”

“Yeah, good job. But Rina… Don’t you think you’re sticking too close to me? Luna-sama is watching, you know?”

“….But I’m just acting like normal though?”

“Well, yeah, but still…”

“Fufu~♫”

Rina was leaning against me, entrusting her body to me. She wasn’t fully naked though. She had a towel around her body but the wet white fabric didn’t provide a good coverage. The towel was a bit transparent and I could clearly feel the soft sensation of her body against my arms. 

Especially the two marshmallows on her chest. The exquisite softness from those two marshmallows were dangerous to my sanity. 

As for Elena-sama, she was subtly resting her arm on my free arm.

Basically, I was sandwiched between them on both sides.

Luna-sama must be seething with anger at the sight of us sticking so close like this. 

I glanced fearfully at her but contrary to my expectation, she had a very dejected expression on her face for some reason. It was a look of sadness and helplessness, a very intense emotion that no word could really describe it. 

“Umm… Luna-sama?”

Feeling worried, I called out her name. Both Rina and Elena-sama, slotted on either side of me also turned their gaze toward her. 

“….What is it?”

“Are you feeling alright?”

Luna-sama snapped back to her senses at my question. Flustered, she quickly answered. 

“I-I’m fine. I was just feeling a bit lightheaded.”

“No, I mean, we haven’t been soaking for that long yet… Are you sure you’re alright?”

“….”

It might be rude of me to ask the same question twice but Luna-sama looked so distressed that I couldn’t stop myself from asking again. 

Her emerald eyes seemed to glisten with unshed tears as she once again wore a listless expression on her face. 

But…

“It’s nothing for you to worry about, Kanato-san. Well then, I will be leaving first.”

Luna-sama said as she stood up. 

She always maintained her composure. Seeing her resolve, I was reminded once again why she was able to become the student council president. 

But then….

“”…..””

Our mouth gaped open, we couldn’t close it. 

“Hm?”

Luna-sama tilted her head to the side, confused at our reaction. 

Her silver hair was wet from the hot spring. Her breasts, which weren’t losing against Elena-sama or Rina in terms of size, looked so supple and bouncy. Her ivory-white legs stretched out like a graceful swan.

The sight of Luna-sama’s naked figure fresh from the hot spring was vividly imprinted in our minds. 

When Luna-sama’s bath towel floated nonchalantly in front of me, Luna-sama finally realized. 

“”AAAGHHHHH!!”

Luna-sama’s face turned bright red, just like us. 

“KYAAAAAAAA!!!”

And then, Luna-sama used her magic to destroy the hot spring we were soaking at.

Somewhere Deep in the Mountains

“Haaa…. What a mess… There was too much stuff happening today.”

In the end, Luna-sama admitted her mistake and promised to reimburse the Fibel family for the repair cost before returning to her own room. 

She kept darting her eyes everywhere, she looked clearly shaken, reasonably soo. I had never seen her like that before. 

I felt a bit awkward too so I decided to take a walk alone deep in the mountains to compose myself. 

“But still, this place is so beautiful.”

Leiden was more like a calm countryside rather than a bustling city.  

Without electricity, the only source of light at night was the brilliance of the stars and the moon. Of course, I could summon artificial lighting with my skill but for now, I preferred to walk along this rugged mountain path without relying on my skill. 

My pupils dilated. It was hard to distinguish the colors of the surrounding vegetation because of how dark the mountain was. However, the shapes of the plants, the natural scents of the vegetation around that gently wafted to my nostrils, everything helped to calm my senses down.

The rippling sounds of the rival constantly filled my ears, adding a dash of color to the pleasant nature symphony. The cries of bird of prey like eagle-owl, along with the footsteps of other creatures like wild animals and monsters echoed throughout the mountains. All of these elements combined together, serving as a reminder that I wasn’t in Japan. This was another world. 

I was reminded of the days when I used to hunt alone to earn money for Rina’s tuition fees. 

“Haha~”

I will have plenty of free time during summer and winter breaks. Maybe I will go solo hunting for strong monsters again then. I can gather all the expensive materials and bring them to Keltz-sama. I’m sure he will buy the materials at a fair price. 

I dreamt of building a bigger and more comfortable house with the money I would receive from Keltz-sama as I continued walking along the mountain path. 

A better house for me and Rina… 

“Hm?”

Then, I noticed someone was sitting on a tree. 

If it was a suspicious-looking person, I would be on my guard immediately but the person sitting on the tree looked harmless. Their silhouette gleamed under the moonlight. There was a mysterious scent emanating from them, giving me a subtle hint of inexplicable power from them that made me feel like I had been transported to a virtual reality.

At the bottom, trees of unknown species stretched out alongside overgrown grass. Above, stars of various brilliance scattered across the clear night sky. And in the middle, there was the figure of a beautiful girl clad in tattered clothes.

“Hm?”

She turned to look back. Her gaze lowered until… Our eyes met. 

Her red eyes locked onto me, capturing me into its prison.

“Beautiful….”

I unconsciously uttered my thoughts out loud. The girl closed her eyes before she fell down from the tall tree.
