Chapter 19: Begin

The Student Council Room

“Are you sure you want to partake in this quest? Your party has only just been formed, right?”

“Yes.It doesn’t matter even if our party is still new.”

Feeling concerned for us, Luna-sama asked for our confirmation, in which Elena-sama answered confidently. 

Seeing the confidence in Elena-sama’s eyes, Luna-sama relented, although she still seemed a bit dissatisfied with our decision. 

“I don’t mind it if it’s just any ordinary monsters but this is a Red Dragon. You might lose your life if you’re not careful.”

Luna-sama narrowed her eyes into a reproachful glare as she cautioned us. 

Upon hearing her warning, Jeff-sama and Mia-sama trembled in return. My little sister grabbed my sleeve, staring at me. She seemed scared. 

And so, I let out a short sigh and replied. 

“I don’t think there will be any problem.”

All members of Five Star and the other student council members looked at me in surprise. 

“Oi, you commoner! Don’t get your head full of yourself just because you were able to defeat Bern. Just so you know, even if you line up 100 Bern, the Red Dragon would still win without so much as a scratch!”

It was the same male student council member who had scolded me before for being disrespectful to Luna-sama. 

However, I couldn’t sense the same malicious intention from him like the one I could feel from Bern and other pompous nobles. 

“I’m not getting carried away. It’s just… If we defeat the Red Dragon, our party will receive a good rating, right? That’s the only reason why we’re participating with the quest.”

“….You sound pretty confident, aren’t you?’

The male student council member frowned. However, it seemed he didn’t want to press any further. 

“Kanato-san.”

“Yes?”

“To put it bluntly, your party doesn’t have a good combination. Logically speaking, a party with high defense and strong attack power would be more suitable for undertaking this quest.”

This school, no, this kingdom didn’t have the concept of compatibility and balanced combination like you would often see in RPG games and other games with a party system. In other words, the people of this kingdom believed the ideal party only needed a strong individual like Elena-sama and that was it. 

Hence why, I had to disagree with Luna-sama’s opinion.

“Luna-sama, I’m sorry but I disagree with your opinion.”

“What do you mean?”

“It has to be all five of us. If all members of Five Star are present, we will be able to defeat the Red Dragon.”

Upon hearing my rebuttal, Luna-sama scowled and glared at me.

“Because you’re not of noble blood, we cannot measure your level but I can see that your abilities are at least Level 3. However, the fact still remains. You are placed in the lowest class. I don’t have any intention to discriminate against any student of Central Magic School but to be honest, I find it hard to believe you, Kanato-san.”

Her words were logical and cold. Adding her silver hair into the mix, she looked like the embodiment of Ice Queen. 

And the one who broke the frozen silence that ensued in the student council room was none but..

“Luna, you’re wrong.”

“Pardon?”

“Kanato’s strength can’t be measured with a piece of paper or pure logic alone.”

“What are you talking about? As the eldest daughter of the Fibel family, you should be more aware of yourself! You’re one of the pillars that support this kingdom!”

“Kanato is a man that I approve.”

“”-!!””

All members of the student council tensed up, surprised at Elena-sama’s bold proclamation. There was no hint of deception on Elena-sama’s face. Her eyes were pure and honest. Elena-sama’s graceful aura completely captivated everyone. 

Her long, golden hair fluttered in the air. Her perfect body figure had a hint of muscle hidden beneath it. Her ample bosom was pressed tightly against her shirt, perfectly showcasing her allure as a woman. Her slender, ivory white legs looked so delicate and beautiful. Looking at her ethereal beauty, I almost wondered if she was truly the famous War Princess who had traversed countless battlefields. 

“Very well. I see no reason in stopping you if you’ve said that. Then, with this, your party has officially accepted the quest.”

Luna-sama said coldly. She was still glaring at me, seemingly frustrated at us. 

In response, I also stared back at Luna-sama. My eyes were as cold as hers.

The Next Day, Near the Red Dragon’s Nest.

“Man~ We’re really here, huh?~ Me, a Level 2, coming to a mountain where the Red Dragon’s nest is~”

“Jeff-sama, your legs are shaking.”

“Ahahaha! Mia-chan! What are you talking about? There’s no way I’d get scare- Aahhh!!!”

Jeff-sama screamed and jumped to cling to me the moment he saw a little snake slithering about.

“Wai-Wait! Jeff-sama! Don’t cling to me!”

“Bu-Bu-But!! It’s scary!!”

“Didn’t you just say there’s no way you’d get scared?!”

Contrary to my expectation, Jeff-sama was actually a scaredy cat.

Well, it’s only reasonable for him to feel scared though. He’s only a Level 2 after all (by the way, Mia-sama is a Level 1).

“In any case, we need to hurry up and defeat the Red Dragon. Remember, we also need to secure the musk deer too. Look, I can already see the shadow of other parties in front of us.”

Elena-sama said, looking agitated.

“Other parties… But there aren’t many of them around…”

To which Rina murmured, seemingly nervous.

“That just further proves that this quest is not meant for small fries. The other parties beside us are probably around Level 4 or 5..”

Mia-sama touched Rina’s shoulder and said softly. 

“….I see.”

My little sister glanced at me with a dejected expression on her face.

“But… Onii-sama, you’ve defeated a Red Dragon before, haven’t you?”

“Ah, sort of. But that dragon was very cunning and clever. I didn’t get to kill it. I ended up letting the dragon slip away from me.”

“”What?!”

The words I uttered nonchalantly seemed to cause quite a shock for the three nobles in our party. 

“Kanato-kun, just exactly how strong you are…”

Jeff-sama, who was stilling onto me, murmured in disbelief. 

Elena-sama glared at me. Her cheeks flushed in pink for some reason. 

“Is the Red Dragon that strong? So much so that even Kanato can’t defeat it?”

“Yes. We mustn’t provoke it recklessly. If we accidentally stimulated the dragon too much and it became agitated, the dragon will slam the dragon with its sturdy tail, causing earthquakes in its wake.”

“I see, I see. And? What other characteristics does it have?”

“If the Red Dragon roars in the fit of rage, other wyvern type monsters will suddenly appear and attack us.”

“Hmm… What a troublesome monster indeed.”

Elena-sama nodded in agreement when suddenly, we saw another party pass by us. The party consisted of 4 members. 

“Guys! Let’s take the Red Dragon quickly! We’re super strong after all so I’m sure we’ll be able to do it!”

“Yeah! That’s right! Even if Red Dragon is a strong monster, but there’s no way our super strong party can’t defeat it! We have 2 Level 5 with us after all! Ahahahaha!”

“This is really a great opportunity for us to get closer to the royal family! Maybe I can get engaged with the prince even…Ufufufu….”

“Now then… As a Level 5 member of our party, I guess it is time for me to shoot a shot at the Red Dragon’s nest?~”

Between four of them, a man with magnificent muscle on par with a professional wrestler suddenly began chanting. 

“Oh masses of steel! Manifest!”

Then, from above the man, there appeared a shimmering gate that reminded me of a Gate of Babylon, a Noble Phantasm used by one particular King of Heroes from a certain Holy Grail War animation. Countless blades of steel emerged from the gate.

When, with a swing of the man’s hand, the blades of steels flew toward the Red Dragon’s nest at incredible speed. 

The other member of Five Star, aside from me, could only stare dumbfoundedly at the sight. 

The man that had launched that attack chuckled, seemingly satisfied at his attack. 

“Ahahaha! Is it over already?!”

The man laid on his back with his legs outstretched on the ground, laughing along with his party members. 

“Hey, couldn’t you leave some of the action for me too?”

“How boring~”

“Let’s hurry up and find the musk deer.”

All four of them smirked as they picked up their pace to find the musk deer. They appeared to have lost their excitement since they believed the fight had ended that easily. 

However…

Watching their retrating figures, I couldn’t help but to hold my head with my hands, feeling greatly perplexed.

“Onii-sama? What’s wrong?”

“Everyone…..”

“”Hm?””

“Stand your ground.”

Almost immediately, a tremendous sound echoed in the mountain before the ground started to shake furiously. 

“”-!!!””

(A certain silver-haired girl who had been following Kanato and the others also appeared to be shocked at the sudden turn of events.)
