Chapter 16: Mockery and Party

Harry’s provocative words started to change the mood in the gymnasium. 

“H’s right… That commoner is the one at fault! He dared to commit such a terrible thing to a noble!”

“Under normal circumstances, he should be punishable by death!”

“How dare he come to the school so nonchalantly like that after committing such atrocious sin to Bern-senpai! Bern-senpai is not only a noble but he’s also the Disciplinary Committee Head!”

The nobles who agreed with Harry, mainly male, hurled abusive words at me. 

“Silence!”

Seeing the situation escalating, Luna-sama tried to stop them but her action only backfired. Harry smirked, he then walked slowly toward the stage where the student council members and Luna-sama were standing. 

He looked incredibly pompous. 

After he finally stood next to Luna-sama, he opened his mouth to speak. 

“Luna-chan.”

“…What is it?”

“Shall I tell you why this kingdom builds a wall between commoners and nobles?”

“That’s… Isn’t it to maintain the proper order so each faction can fulfill each role properly?”

“Of course, that’s true. However, you missed one crucial thing.”

“….?”

Luna-sama and the other student council members tilted their heads, confused. 

Harry’s previously pompous expression suddenly turned cold. He narrowed his eyes, practically glaring at me. 

“Because only magic users with pathetic talent are born from the mix between noble blood and commoner blood. Mixed bloods are… Inferior.”

Upon hearing Harry’s words, most of the boys were looking at me with ridicule. While the girls were looking at me with disdain. 

He subtly cast a glance at me and Rina when he mentioned the word ‘commoner blood’. While Bern was very crude with his words, Harry had a more cunning approach. 

However, I wasn’t the type of person that would take things lying down. I was thinking about how to respond to him when suddenly, Rina stood up. 

The color of her eyes had faded. Her gaze was icy cold as she stared at Harry. 

“Then by Harry-sama’s logic, I guess it’s fair to assume that means Bern-san, who cannot even hold a candle to my Onii-sama, is much inferior to a mixed blood?”

“””!!!”””

Immediately, the gymnasium erupted with an uproar. 

“Wa-Wait! Both of you, calm down!!”

Luna-sama tried to intervene but Harry paid her no mind. 

“Oh my, what an adorable little kitten. But, no. Bern is my important junior and comrade since he belongs to my party. If you dare to keep acting cocky despite being a commoner, someday you’ll be thoroughly disciplined, you know?”

My blood was raging. I couldn’t bear it anymore. 

“If you ever try to harm Rina, I won’t stand still. Not only you but I will be sure to destroy everything you hold dear.”

I said, clenching my fist while glaring at Harry. 

In an instant, everyone started murmuring among themselves. They looked at me with their eyes wide open. The shock was evident in their faces. 

Their response was only natural though. After all, I had something that would incite the anger of a duke’s eldest son. 

Jeff-sama and Mia-sama, who were sitting next to me, looked tense. However, I didn’t have any intention of retracting my words. I meant every single thing I said. 

“For a commoner, you’re quite interesting. Can I ask you one question though?”

“What is it?”

“Why did you come to this school?”

“To form a party and produce the best results.”

“Party?! The best result..??! PFFT!! Ahahahahaha!!”

“”AHAHAHAHAHA!!””

Hearing my answer, Harry and those around him burst into laughter. 

“To form a party and produce the best results he said?!”

“You’re severely underestimating this school, huh? The member of the best party in this school won’t only receive a medal from His Majesty himself but will also earn the title of a Duke! That’s why everyone in here are striving to achieve that!”

“No matter how hard you guys work, the two of you are just commoners! Your effort will be in vain, you know?”

“In fact, that guy is in the lowest class! Not only is he a commoner but he’s also in the lowest class!”

“He looks stupid so I think he’s going to die before he can even complete a single quest.”

“Is there any noble who will want to team up with commoners like them?”

Mockery filled the gymnasium. Everyone was ridiculing me. 

Feeling frustrated, I was scanning  the surroundings when suddenly…

“I will become Kanato’s party member though?”

“Me too.”

By the time I realized it, Jeff-sama and Mia-sama were already sticking to me, even though the nobles around us were still laughing at me. However, I could see that Jeff-sama’s feet were trembling ever so slightly. Seemingly sensing Jeff-sama’s predicament, Mia-sama grabbed his hand tightly. 

“Ahahaha!~ Teaming up with a commoner, I’m so cool, aren’t I?~”

“Yes! Jeff-sama is very cool!”

Jeff-sama deliberately acted overly dramatic to play it off. 

But then… 

Rina came running to me and hugged my arm. Her huge marshmallows were being squeezed against my body. The softness of her body really brought comfort to me. 

“Oh? If it isn’t Jeff, the eldest son of Count Elgin?”

Harry was glaring at Jeff-sama. His eyes looked so cold. 

“Ahaha! So you know me! My, oh my, what an honor!”

Jeff-sama bowed his head. He was giving Harry a noble greeting in a superfluous manner. 

“Yeah, I know you guys. Your family has long discarded any pride as a noble. The only thing in your head is money, like a greedy animal.”

“That’s quite a rude thing to say. I prefer to say our family believes thinking and acting rationally is the best.”

“Just you wait, you will regret this. You’re going to tarnish your family even more. Even now, your family has no place in high noble society.”

“My, I already said my family is merely acting based on facts and rational thinking, didn’t I?”

“Pfft!!HAHAHAHA! This is hilarious! Hilarious, I say!! Two first-year commoners and the outcasts from the lowest class are teaming together?? No matter how hard you guys work, the results are clear as day! Well, that means….”

Harry suddenly turned calm. He was looking at us like we were garbage. 

“Personally intervening with you guys is futile. It’s a waste of effort. After all, you guys will eventually self-destruct even if I don’t do anything! AHAHAHAHA!!”

“”HAHAHAHA!!””

Laughters erupted in the gymnasium again in response to Harry’s laughter. 

I could clearly feel the disdain, ridicule and disgust in their laugh. 

However, amidst the laugh, a beautiful girl emerged, pushing through the crowd. 

Her lustrous blonde hair flew against the air. Her crystal blue eyes resembled the sea. There was no hint of any murkiness inside her bright eyes. Her figure was as impressive as Rina. Her ample bosoms were standing out even in the school uniform. At her waist, there was a sword that looked as magnificent as her. 

The beautiful girl walked toward us. When she was close enough to us, she turned on her heel and turned her attention to Harry. 

“Harry-senpai, I’ll be joining Kanato’s party as well.”

“”-!!!””

Elena-sama’s words easily reached the ears of everyone in the gymnasium. Everyone widened their eyes and dropped their jaws in surprise. 

On the other hand, Luna-sama was still at a loss. She glanced alternately between Harry and us. 

Although I was feeling nervous, I still braved myself to glare at Harry when suddenly, a faint, trembling voice could be heard from the crowd. 

“The Duke of Percy family has a deep tie to the royal family because of Harry-sama’s betrothal while Luna-sama’s family, the Duke of Lennox family, has always remained neutral even though they have significant influence over the administration and judiciary of our kingdom. As for the Duke of Fibel family… Not only have they amassed immense wealth through unconventional means, but they’ve also participated in numerous wars with Elena-sama as the representative.
