Chapter 13: Hunting Powerful Monsters in Secret Suit Kanato Better

A few days later, in a certain wilderness.

I was currently fervently exterminating powerful monsters in the wilderness just beyond the border. 

“KIIIIUUU!!”

A huge dragon was flying toward me with incredible speed from above. This was an Iron Dragon, a dragon with tough scales covering its body. While this dragon couldn’t breathe fire or cast spells, but this dragon’s offensive ability was on par with Elena-sama’s, making this dragon a fearsome opponent to defeat. 

I looked at the Iron Dragon’s face. Its face was filled with murderous intention. It was ready to kill  me with its sharp and sturdy claws. However, suddenly, the face of that Bern guy came to my mind. 

“….I couldn’t use my skill back then but… There’s no one around here.”

I said with a smirk. 

“Let’s go with the 12-inch one for today.”

I muttered as I channeled my magic into the air. Then, something resembling a cannon was formed. 

And then…

“Cannonball…”

A big cannonball that I had enhanced with magic entered the 12-inch (about 30cm) barrel. 

I inhaled. 

“Fire!!”

I shouted at the op of my lungs and almost immediately, the big cannon fired its cannonball, sending the big projectile hurtling at incredible speed toward Iron Dragon. 

“GUAAAAA!!”

The dragon screamed as a shockwave raised dust into the air, causing a faint tremor in the ground. 

Seconds later, the Iron Dragon was left with a massive hole in its body. The dragon fell onto the ground, dead. 

Looking at its corpse, I remembered the incident from a few days ago. 

“Special leave?”

“Yes.”

“Why?”

“Until now, all the rules regarding the duel at Central Magic School were designed with nobility in mind. We assumed all students would come from nobility.”

“Ye-Yes. And…?”

She’s right. Rina is the first commoner to ever get accepted into this school. 

“Rina-san is a girl, so she has never participated in a duel before. But, after watching your duel with Bern earlier, I believe we need to create some new rules.”

“I see. May I know what kind of rules they are?”

I asked and Luna-sama bit her lip, seemingly trying to restrain her anger from bursting. 

“To forbid any sort of insult toward one’s status, especially toward the commoners.”

“….”

Her face remained serious as she continued on.

“Bern is a disgrace to the nobility. Not only did he say horrible things to you in front of your little sister, but he also showed disgraceful behavior unbecoming of a noble just because you are a commoner.”

She paused for a moment. Her eyes narrowed, unleashing an intense murderous intent.

“His action caused so much trouble for me.”

“-!!”

A terrifying aura wafted in the air from this beautiful girl in front of me. The juxtaposition between her frail appearance and her intense murderous intention made me flinch back in surprise. I found myself getting overwhelmed by the sheer aura emanating from her. 

“Even if he can escape this incident without any punishment, Bern will have a very difficult school life ahead of him.”

“…..”

“In any case, please take a special leave until we finish establishing some rules. I can’t guarantee a similar incident won’t occur again in the future after all.”

What an imposing attitude. I couldn’t say anything back. This must be the manifestation of Luna-sama’s strength. A power that only she possessed. 

However, I still had to make one thing clear here. 

“I don’t really care about the rules. I mean, you can create it if you want, but there’s one thing I need to make clear here…”

I said while scanning the student council room. Apart from the silver haired beauty, there were a few other people in this room. 

Some looked at me with genuine interest while some seemed wary of me. 

“I believe the rules won’t do anything much. It’s probably futile, if I may say so myself. That’s why… If anyone else dares to bully Rina again, I will do the same thing I did to Bern. No matter who my opponent is.”

I said as I peered into Luna-sama’s beautiful eyes. The girl immediately averted her gaze, seemingly shaking from discomfort. 

“Oi, you commoner!! You’re being disrespectful to Luna-sama! He’s the eldest daughter of Duke Lennox!! Even we nobles aren’t allowed to talk impudently toward her!!”

Someone who appeared to be a part of the student council barged into our conversation. 

“Stop it. I hate noisy people.”

“-!! M-M-M-My apologies.”

And so… That was why I ended up getting special days off from school. 

“But… This is more like a suspension, isn’t it…”

I muttered while sighing. 

However, it wouldn’t be right if I kept unilaterally attacking Luna-sama. She must be struggling in her own way too. And she was right. We needed to have solid rules. It might be a bitter pill to swallow but it was a fact that my existence and Rina’s existence in this school had put Luna-sama on the spot. As the Student Council President, Luna-sama would need to find how the commoners and the nobles in the school could coexist together.

She already had enough on her plate. I should just take this ‘suspension’ as a holiday  and not bother her too much. 

“Well, it’s pointless to think about that kind of thing anyway.”

I muttered as I scanned my surroundings. 

The vast plain came into view. This was an uncharted territory, not belonging to any country. Moreover, this place was teeming with monsters that wouldn’t be easy to defeat unless you were at least level 5. 

All of these conditions made this place one of the few places where I could go all out as I pleased. 

I headed over to the tail of the dead Iron dragon and started tearing off chunks of its meat. 

“Iron Dragon tastes like chicken, right? Alright! Today I will make some karaage for Rina!”

I smiled but then, an Emperor Wild Boar kicked the ground repeatedly while glaring at me. 

“Hmm… Karaage and pork miso soup doesn’t sound bad.”

It seemed hunting powerful monsters in secret suited me better.

I rode through the vast wilderness on a military motorcycle that I had summoned. 

The speed was on a whole nother level compared to a horse. The sensation of wind against my cheeks felt so exhilarating.

I was on my way back to our rundown house so I could prepare dinner for Rina before she returned from school.

『Onii-sama!! I’m the happiest when I’m with you!! You always work hard to earn money for my tuition, always cook me a delicious meal and comfort me! Onii-sama, I like you a lot!!! By the way, I hate that disgusting guy! That guy named Bern is the worst!!!』

Rina’s words from a few days ago seemed to echo in my mind as I rode upon the winds. 

“Heh.”

A smirk naturally formed on my lips.

In front of a rundown house.

“Huh?”

In front of my house, there were two familiar people and one unfamiliar person standing there. 

“Kanato-kun!”

“Keltz-sama and Hannah-sama?!”

Yes. It was Keltz-sama, Elena-sama’s father and Hannah-sama, Mia-sama’s big sister. 

And… One mysterious blonde man. 

“Well, so this is Kanato-kun? Ahahaha! Ah, I knew it. The real thing is so much better than an ivory sculpture. Say, Kanato-kun,would you like to dance together with me?”

Ah. This must be Jeff-sama’s father. The genes are too strong. I can immediately tell who he is. 

I could only laugh awkwardly while walking toward them.

“My, my, my, I’m sorry you need to come all the way to my rundown house…”

“Kanato-kun, enough of it.”

“Huh?”

At Keltz-sama’s unexpected response, I tilted my head to the side. He glanced at the tail meat of an Iron Dragon and the meat from Emperor Wild Boar that I was carrying and stared at me with a serious expression on his face. 

“There’s an extremely important matter that we need to discuss with you. Is it alright if we head inside?”

Hannah-san who was next to him, as well as Jeff-sama’s father who was standing behind him, also had an equally serious expression on their faces. 

We entered the house but then, part of the roof collapsed, covering us with dust.
