- Chapter 8 - Dining Table for Three
Dining Table for Three
Since I’m free during the summer break, I decided to take on a part-time job at a convenience store. I work three days a week from 10 AM to 2 PM on weekdays.
This is my first part-time job, it is filled with things I didn’t understand, and in the beginning, I had no idea what to do and felt lost. Especially when it comes to operating the cash register and engaging in conversations with customers, I couldn’t help but get nervous, and my voice would become muffled. I often had to repeat myself to the customers, which made me even more self-conscious.
However, there are two part-time housewives working on the same shift as me, and they kindly taught me the job and helped me out a lot.
By August, I have become quite accustomed to my job and able to handle the cash register on my own.
The hourly wage is 930 yen, and I received a salary of 18,000 yen for July.
At this pace, I plan to save up to 60,000 yen during the summer vacation, and I’m thinking of using this money to give Souji-kun a gift for his new home such as appliances or furniture.
When I tell Emi about this plan, she was initially taken aback, saying,
“I think that’s a bit too much.”
“I want to do something for Souji-kun even though this is pretty much all I can do right now.”
But when I explained my reasons so, Emi reluctantly agrees with me, telling me to not push myself too hard and make Souji-kun worry.
My summer break passed by working on my part-time job and getting my homework done. I hardly go out to have fun or meet up with my friends, yet somehow, I feel satisfied and happy. Even though I can’t meet Souji-kun I don’t feel anxious or restless anymore, it seems that I have calmed down.
During the summer break, Mama and Papa goes on a trip together, leaving me, Souji-kun and Emi at home
Papa actually invited me and Emi on the family trip, but I decided to stay behind because I of my part-time job. Hearing that, Emi also said that she also wants to stay at home.
So, in the end, Mama and Papa went on the trip alone.
When Mama and Papa are on the trip, I decided to make the meals for us.
Lately, I haven’t had many opportunities to cook meals or make lunches for Souji-kun, so I enthusiastically take this chance to do so.
Thanks to this, I’m able to have a relaxed conversation with Souji-kun during meals.
When we are having our lunch together, I confessed to Souji-kun that I have started a part-time job.
However, I kept my purpose a secret. I also told Emi not to tell Souji-kun about it in advance.
“This is my first part-time job. It was really hard at first, but once I get used to it, it’s actually pretty fun.”
“I never expected that Ami-san would start a part-time job. I’m surprised.”
“Onee-chan, you started working part-time because Souji-senpai also started working, right?”
“Emi! Don’t say such unnecessary things!”
“Is that so? Is there something you want to buy?”
“No, umm, I thought that since I have some free time during summer break…I’d like to try working part-time like Souji-kun… More importantly! It seems like Souji-kun is pretty busy lately. You’ve been working quite a few shifts, haven’t you?”
“That’s right. It seems like moving out and living alone will cost more than I thought. I don’t think I’ll be able to move out this summer break if I don’t take extra shifts.”
“I see…but you shouldn’t push yourself too hard, you know? Also, you need to eat properly as well, okay?”
“Yeah.”
“Onee-chan, somehow, you seem to be acting like Souji-senpai’s mother, don’t you think?”
Hearing Emi’s words, Souji-kun looks at Emi with a surprised look on his face.
(If I can’t be Souji-kun’s lover, I can at least be Souji-kun’s older sister?)
I can’t help but to think so.
In the end, while Mama and Papa are on their trip, the three of us eat together every morning and evening.
Just having that mealtime to talk with Souji-kun feels incredibly heartwarming for me.
Since Emi is with us, the atmosphere didn’t become tense, allowing me to talk to Souji-kun calmly.
Then, on the last day of us having dinner together,
“I’ve decided to slightly postpone my move. I’m planning to save some more money before moving out so that I can live on my own comfortably.”
Souji-kun told us so.
Regarding the specific timing when Souji-kun is going to move out, he told us that he wants to have his move decided by the second semester and probably start his new life living alone around the winter break.
Hearing that, I feel relieved to be able to spend my days living with him together, even if it’s just a little longer.
