- Chapter 7 - Election
Election
After Souji-kun volunteered for the student council and I had that conversation with him in the library, our relationship doesn’t particularly change. The days passed peacefully.
As for the student council election, the result is that Souji-kun won by a landslide and is appointed as the student council president.
Even though he just transferred into our school and doesn’t have that much friends, his appearance has made him a central topic among the girls right from the beginning of the new school semester, so his popularity is much higher than I expected.
Above all, his speech during the school assembly was truly incredible. Souji-kun delivered the speech flawlessly.
“Nice to meet you all. My name is Souji Ando from class 1 third year, and I am running for the student council president.”
Souji-kun is very composed as he delivers the speech.
“I just transferred to this school this April, and probably none of you know me very well. I don’t know much about this school either, so I won’t say anything here about my aspirations or policies that I’m going to change in this school. However, since I have the time to stand in front of you all, I would like to share a song.”
Saying so, Souji-kun folds his hand behind his back and sings a verse a cappella without using the microphone.
I remember listening to this song a few years ago in a commercial or something, but I don’t remember the name of the song or who sang it.
Souji-kun’s voice is so powerful that all students and even the staff listen to him with in amazement.
None of the other candidates can deliver a speech better than Souji-kun’s. It’s almost pitiful to watch them going up the stage even though they know they are going to lose the election.
After the school assembly ends, and we return to our classrooms to begin the voting.
Once all the votes are cast our homeroom teacher asks us a question.
“Ando-kun’s song was really impressive, wasn’t it? It’s a song by a famous singer named Miyuki Nakajima. Does anyone here know the name of the song?”
Amidst the silent classroom, Souji-kun raises his hand.
“Well yeah, of course you would know it Ando-kun.”
Our homeroom teacher said so and the whole class laughs.
“That song is called ‘Fight’ by Miyuki Nakajima, a song that is popular before all of you were born. How can you know that song, Ando-kun?”
“Yes, my mom loved that song and we used to listen to it a lot at home.”
Hearing Souji-kun’s words, I can’t help to but to stare at his face.
The teacher seems to stare at Souji-kun and freezes for a moment as well.
“I-I see. It’s a great song, isn’t it?”
“Yeah, it’s a really great song.”
After that, the atmosphere in the classroom becomes a bit heavy.
The next day, during the morning homeroom, the teacher announced the election result. It turned out that Souji-kun won the election and secured the top stop by a huge margin. I didn’t expect him to really win the election.
Then Souji-kun initiatively stands up without changing his calm expression and bows to his classmates saying,
“Thank you very much for your support.”
