- Chapter 30 - The Other Sister
The Other Sister
A few days after the cultural festival, as I’m passing by a neighbourhood park on my way back home, I’m approached by my younger sister, Emi.
It’s quite late now, it’s already starting to get dark. I don’t usually come home this late, but I had some student council stuff I needed to take care of.
“Ando-senpai, may I have a moment with you?”
“Emi-san, what’s wrong? What are you doing here? It’s quite late already.”
“I waited here to talk to you, Ando-senpai. I can’t talk to you at home because of Mama.”
“I see. I’m sorry to keep you waiting.”
“No, it’s fine…well, let’s sit on the bench and talk…”
“Ah, yeah.”
This is the first time Emi has ever spoken to me.
Unlike Ami, I feel like Emi is avoiding me, so I don’t make an effort to get closer to her.
Emi tells me that she has something serious to discuss with me, so I decided to listen to her cautiously.
“Umm…Ando-senpai, what is your mother’s name?”
“Eh? My mother’s name? Her name is Miyuki Ando.”
“I knew it…”
It’s hard to tell in the dim light, but Emi’s expression seems to be somewhat depressed.
Judging from her expression, I have an idea what she wants to talk about.
“Perhaps, you found out about the relationship between your parents and my mother?”
“……”
“If it’s too hard for you to answer, you don’t have to answer my question. It seems you’re your parents intend to keep this matter a secret, and I also don’t plan to bring up this matter.”
“But…”
“But?”
“If that’s the case, Ando-senpai will continue to be a victim forever…are you okay with that?”
“It’s not about whether I’m okay with it or not. I still can’t survive and live on my own, so I don’t want to cause any issues.”
“What about Onee-chan? Does she know about this? Aren’t you going to tell her either?”
“Ami-san…doesn’t know about this matter. I know we will have to talk about it eventually, but we can’t do it now. We’re both third grade students preparing for our high school entrance exams, on top of that, I can’t afford to be kicked out of the house right now.”
“I see… Umm…I’m sorry for everything…my behaviour at home towards you…being cold and ignoring you…”
“It’s fine. I don’t mind, don’t worry about it.”
“But…”
“It’s really fine. Besides, if possible, I’d like you to continue not talking to me at home as usual.”
“Is it because of Mama?”
“Yeah, that’s right.”
“I understand, I’ll be careful.”
“Thank you. If you have anything you want to talk about this matter, please don’t hesitate to talk to me. It’s a heavy burden to carry alone.”
“Yes…I will.”
Emi’s expression seems somewhat better after we have this conversation.
“It’s already late, so please go home first. If we go home at the same time, I’m afraid that they might say something about it. I’ll just kill some time here.”
“Okay then, I’m sorry. Honestly, I was planning to pretend I know nothing about this matter, but I can’t help thinking about it all the time…thank you for listening to me…”
Emi seems like she wanted to say something at the end, but she just walks away slowly.
For now, I think Emi understands my situation.
From the way she acts, it’s unlikely that she will spread rumors or cause a commotion about this matter.
As I’m thinking about it on the bench, Emi comes running back.
“Ando-senpai! Umm, you are my Onii-chan, right?”
“…yeah, both Emi-san and Ami-san are my half sisters.”
“But it’s a secret, right?”
“Yeah, please don’t tell anyone about this for now.”
“I understand!”
Saying so, she runs back home.
