Chapter 39: Together Forever (END)
“… Haah.”
I had never imagined what a wedding would be like.
Despite celebrating with Rito, I didn’t anticipate that I would end up in this position, and I realized that I hadn’t really thought about anything.
“Are you nervous?”
“…Yes.”
I nodded to Lichter-sama, who stood next to me.
It was finally the day of the wedding, and though they were few in number, my acquaintances had come to support me. Old man, Rito, and the other dragon handlers were all watching me with smiles, but I knew that this nervousness was inevitable.
“For both me and Marianna, you are not exactly family, but…hmm, still, these joyous occasions are quite wonderful, you know?”
“Ahaha… I’m happy to hear you say that.”
Lichter-sama and the others had prepared many things for this wedding. I think I even saw a scene where Runa used her chin, but Marianna-sama was still smiling, and Lichter-sama seemed to be having a great time too.
And so, the day had finally arrived, and I was about to see Runa in her bridal attire for the first time.
“… “
I couldn’t help but gulp.
Everyone here, except for Lichter-sama and his companions, were looking at Runa, including Rito and Old man, but I hadn’t looked at her dress at all… I was just like a small child, unable to contain my excitement. But then, it finally happened.
“…Ah.”
Runa appeared in a pure white dress, her hand held by Marianna-sama.
Though I couldn’t see her expression because of the veil, her sacred aura couldn’t be hidden, and I was already falling in love with her.
However, that was not only the case… I was even more transfixed by her appearance.
After letting go of her hand from Marianna-sama, she walked straight towards me, and I finally saw her makeup-covered expression up close.
“…Ah.”
“Fufu, you’re so captivated by me, aren’t you?”
I was at a loss for words, to the point where I couldn’t even say “Isn’t that obvious?”
My wife is usually beautiful, but today she has transformed into an even more stunning beauty.
However, I couldn’t help but think that I preferred her usual self, which I was more accustomed to.
“Well then, let’s begin. A new family is about to begin.”
And so, Runa and I officially became husband and wife.
Of course, we couldn’t reveal that she was a dragon, so she was introduced as having ties to the royal family. But there was no one at the ceremony who would suspect us. They were all trustworthy people who believed in me.
“Xeno, let’s be happy… we already are, but let’s be even happier.”
“Of course!”
This was a new journey for us, one that would likely last for decades… no, perhaps even centuries, as we would be together.

And so, Runa and I got married and became a couple, and many things changed.
The first and most noticeable change was that we moved to a new place, which became a bit more lively.
“… Well, I never thought things would turn out like this.”
As I looked ahead, there were two black dragons relaxing in a large garden.
The place we were in now was our new home, a mansion prepared for us by Lichter-sama. It was located in a forest, a little ways away from the capital… Yes, it was the place with that spring nearby.
“Those two seem to be very relaxed.”
“Yeah, but I guess that’s because they’re in good spirits, even though they’re not in the dragon world.”
Runa hugged me from behind as I watched Lena and Kia.
In addition to Runa and myself, Lena and Kia were also living with us, as they were here to protect me, as Runa had previously explained.
Although it’s difficult for them to transform into humans like Runa, they have been working hard together several times, taking advantage of the fact that there are no human eyes around them, and it’s heartwarming to see them like that.
“Are we going to the castle today?”
“Yes. There are some things I want to discuss with Lichter and Marianna.”
By the way, just because we moved here doesn’t mean we don’t visit the capital. I frequently visit the castle following Runa’s lead.
Although now, I feel more like a dragon handler for Lena and Kia rather than Runa. However, since Runa can’t always be in her human form, I still take care of her when she’s in her dragon form.
“I’ve been thinking a lot lately.”
“About what?”
“That I have come to live like a human like this. And even the fact that we had a wedding ceremony.”
“… I feel the same way.”
“Maybe…there could have been a future where you, as a dragon handler, married someone other than me. I’m glad that didn’t happen, really.”
“…”
When Runa said that she was glad, her voice was so cold.
It’s true that if Runa couldn’t become human… if I could only meet her as Luna, maybe there could have been such a future.
While I love Runa as a dragon, my days with her as a human have played a big role in our relationship.
“…Well, if you had pushed me too hard, I might have fallen for Runa.”
“Oh, would it have been better if I had stayed in dragon form from the start?”
“…”
Actually, Runa, who was a little drunk, suggested it – whether it would be better to be in dragon form from the beginning.
She’s bigger than me when she’s in her dragon form, and she was such a strong girl that I had to hold her to the end.
And even in her big body… She’s very tight, so it’s awesome!
Now that I know that she can give me so much without becoming human, I feel like I can’t escape even if Runa never becomes human.
“Xeno, meeting you changed me. How wonderful it is to love, spend time, and live together… I’m so happy.”
“Haha, if you say that, me too. I learned a lot and experienced many things since I met Runa.”
Without a doubt, my life has been colored by Runa.
Because Runa was there, I was able to become so happy and meet and marry my precious wife.
“We’ll always be together, right?”
“Yeah. We’ll always be together.”
We will never be apart again.
Runa will live a long life unlike me, but my body is already connected to hers in many ways, and by using a special magic, when my end comes, she will also end her life.
“I don’t want to be separated from you even for a moment. If you’re not here, I have nothing in this world. That’s why I will follow you wherever you go.”
Those were words of her determination.
Although I had some thoughts, I understood that her determination would never waver, as she has been guiding Lena, Kia, and others for that time.
(Marrying a dragon… to others, it may seem like a marriage between two humans, but I, and some others, know – my wife is a proud dragon.)
My life became different from ordinary people, but I am truly grateful.
Thank you, Runa. Thank you for meeting me…and for loving me.
Well, from now on, much longer days will open up compared to before.
As long as Runa is by my side, I feel like everything will be okay. I think this as I gaze upon her radiant smile.
From there on, well, there’s not much to tell.
We did what we had to do, and a new life was conceived inside Runa.
We thought about what would happen once it was born, whether it would be human or dragon or something in between.
And when the child was born with dragon wings and horns, yet in a human body, we were perplexed once again.
Well, those days weren’t really worth talking about, but one thing is for sure: there were always smiles overflowing.
[Afterword]
And with that, this work is concluded.
Personally, there were many unfamiliar aspects to writing a fantasy story in another world, but I am happy to have been able to bring it to a conclusion for now.
Actually, I have been worrying about the work recently, but I just want to be honestly happy that I was able to complete it!
Thank you all for reading for a little over a month!
