Chapter 11 – The Evil Dragon Upgrades Her Son’s Weapon
That night, after Ryuuji had powered up from his mother’s cooking.
“Hmph… I got a real earful.”
Karma muttered to herself in the living room while in the middle of a 【certain task】.
Her son and his friend were already asleep upstairs.
“I just don’t get it… what did I do wrong?”
It was at that moment.
“Karma, you don’t even understand something like that?”
…A woman’s voice came from out of nowhere.
“Be quiet.”
“Yeah, yeah, my bad.”
There was no one around.
Karma should have been the only one in the living room…
“And could you please stop talking to me while you’re invisible?”
“Well, what’s the point of observing if I show myself?”
“The moment you started talking to me, you already failed at observing. Some ‘Observer’ you are.”
Then, with a soft shimmer… a single woman appeared from nowhere.
She was a tall elf.
Her long, blonde hair was tied up with a clasp.
Her most noteworthy features were her long ears and her unbelievably enormous breasts. Her breasts were even larger than the well-endowed Karma’s; ‘juggernaut’ was the only word for them.
“Hiii, Karma, good evening.”
“…Hmph. The person assigned to watch me shouldn’t be showing her face so brazenly.”
“Oh, come on. It’s fine, isn’t it?”
The elf laughed cheerfully.
Karma scowled.
The elf’s face was flushed. Her eyes were moist.
“…You reek of alcohol.”
“Well, that’s ’cause I was drinking~”
“You were performing your duty from the king while drinking? Wasn’t that a mistake in personnel selection?”
“Oh, come on.”
…Still.
This elf had been invisible just a moment ago.
She had completely concealed her presence until she spoke.
The elf had been drinking, and the smell was on her clothes.
…And yet, Karma hadn’t been able to find her.
The moment the elf appeared, the smell hit her nose. Her stealth skills were astounding.
“Anyway, Karma. What are you doing?”
The elf sidled up to Karma.
Karma was at the edge of the living room, performing her 【certain task】.
In her hands was a copper sword.
“Isn’t that Ryu’s sword?”
“Yes, it is. It’s the sword Ryu-kun was issued by the Guild.”
“What are you doing to it?”
“I’m under no obligation to answer you.”
Karma held the copper sword and extended her right hand.
Vwoom…!
Her right hand glowed.
Just like that, Karma began carving letters into the flat of the blade with her fingertip.
It wasn’t the language of this country.
“Runes, huh. You know about those, too?”
“I inherited the knowledge when I ate the Evil God. And could you please not get so close? You stink of booze.”
Karma grimaced.
The elf was pressing up against Karma’s back.
“【Fire Attribute】, 【Acceleration Haste】, and 【Weapon Attack Power Up】, I see.”
“You know runes as well?”
“Well, this ‘big sis’ has been around for a long time, you know.”
“What do you mean, ‘big sis’? You old hag. You’ve given birth to two children.”
At a glance, she was a young and beautiful elf, but she was, in fact, a mother of two.
“My body may be a mother’s, but my heart is forever a big sister’s. Don’t you get it?”
“I don’t understand a single millimeter of what you’re saying.”
Karma ignored the elf and continued inscribing letters onto the copper sword.
After a short while, it was done.
“Phew… Complete…”
With the face of a master craftsman who had finished her work, Karma nodded in satisfaction.
“Are you going to do something unnecessary for Ryu again?”
The elf said, her tone exasperated.
“What do you mean, unnecessary? This is necessary.”
“Nah, Karma. I think that’s just unnecessary meddling.”
The elf snatched the copper sword from Karma.
Then, she swung it lightly.
ZVWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSH!!!
Just a light swing carved a deep gash in the living room wall.
And in the next instant, WHOOOOOSH…!!! the wall burst into flames.
Karma immediately activated her All-Destruction skill. She instantly erased the flames and the damaged wall.
Then, using her All-Creation skill, she restored the wall to how it was before.
“What do you think you’re doing? Did you job change from Observer to Arsonist?”
“No way~. Sorry about that. But I wonder if he can handle a weapon this strong.”
With a flick, she tossed the sword back to Karma.
Karma caught it and tilted her head.
“Is there anything impossible for Ryu-kun, the God of Creation and the one true god of this world?”
“You say the most ridiculous things with a straight face.”
Haaaah, the elf sighed.
“…I’ve told you before, that boy wants a normal life.”
At the elf’s words, Karma spat out, “Hmph…!”
“Outsiders should stay out of it. This is a family matter.”
“Well, I guess you’re right.”
Ignoring the elf, Karma began enchanting her son’s gear by carving 【Runes】 into it.
As she did, the elf spoke to her.
“A parent’s over-interference is tough on a boy this age.”
“Don’t you talk like you know.”
“I’m a mother of two. I like to think I understand children.”
At that, Karma shot a sharp glare at the elf. Ksch!
“Oh, that’s right. You’re a mother. I’m just a dragon who’s never borne a child from her own womb! But don’t you dare act all high and mighty about it!”
Even when hit with Karma’s angry aura, the elf just brushed it off lightly, saying, “Yeah, yeah, sorry.”
…An aura that could kill orcs just by being exposed to it had no effect on the elf whatsoever.
“Are you still jealous that I breastfed Ryu? That was fifteen years ago.”
“Giving milk to my son is a mother’s job! And you stole that from me!”
“Don’t be unreasonable, you were a virgin back then, weren’t you? You still are, for that matter.”
“So what if I am, you i-i-idiot!” Karma yelled, her face beet red.
“Ryu would have died if he didn’t get food. That’s why I did it for him. An Observer isn’t really supposed to interfere with their target, you know.”
“Then you shouldn’t have interfered!”
“He would have died, though. You okay with that?”
“Ugh… ugugugu… ugogogo…”
The mother agonized.
It was true that when Ryuuji was a baby, his meals had primarily been provided by this elf.
And it was also… this woman who had taught Karma, who had never once cared for an infant, all sorts of things.
It’s so frustrating.
As a mother, I feel like I lost. It’s frustrating.
And that… was why Karma hated her.
“And how does an elf’s body even work? It’s been years since you had children, so how did you produce milk back then?”
“Well, that’s just how elves are built. I can still produce it now. Want some?”
“Of course not!”
While dealing with the fool, she finished enchanting all of Ryuuji’s gear.
“Perfect. Now Ryu-kun can go on his adventures safely.”
Hee hee, Karma smiled.
“Aah, don’t look at me. Ryu is definitely going to be mad.”
The elf said, folding her arms behind her head.
“Shut up. An Observer should just shut up and observe.”
“Right. …Well, maybe failing is something you need, too.”
Nod, nod, the elf agreed.
“That all-knowing look on your face is supremely irritating, so please disappear.”
Karma said with a scowl.
The elf replied, “Alright, alright. See ya, Karma.”
The moment she said goodbye… the elf vanished.
She didn’t go somewhere…
She vanished on the spot.
Without a sound, without a warning, she had simply dematerialized.
“Try not to bully Ryu too much, okay~”
Her voice was all that was left behind as she left.
…Or so it seemed. The doors and windows were closed, so how did she get out?
“Hmph. I’m not bullying him. This is a mother’s love. Mother’s love.”
Hee hee, the mother chuckled.
“Staying up late for my son… I’m being such a good mother right now!”
Hee hee hee, ehehe, Karma laughed.
And so, the mother had created the enhanced weapons.
But the following evening.
Ryuuji, having returned from the dungeon,
“Mom! I told you not to do anything unnecessary! Seriously! What’s with that weapon!”
…was furious.
For once, Karma thought, what that woman said was right.
