I became the boyfriend of the school's madonna, who had turned down numerous confessions, but somehow, without realizing it, I wasn't just playing a role anymore - Chapter 147
Episode 147: Heavy Little Sister
“I see… Just out of curiosity, what made you think that?”
I’ve known Sasagawa-sensei even longer than Misaki, so I think I have a good grasp of what kind of person she is.
She’s not the type to say something like this as a joke or to mess with someone.
If she says I seem unsteady, then that’s truly how I appear in her eyes.
“I think you’re a trustworthy and kind person, Shirai-san. I genuinely believe you’re a good person.”
She prefaced her words carefully, likely to avoid offending me.
“But people like that tend to be relied on by others a lot, and they end up carrying everything themselves.”
So, she wanted to say that I might be taking on too much of a burden.
But hold on a second.
“Well, I mean… I don’t really… I don’t even have any friends at school.”
If girls count, I guess Suzumine-san might barely qualify as a friend, but I don’t have any male friends.
There’s no one around to rely on me so much that I’d collapse from it.
“In your case, Shirai-san, I think each person around you has a lot of emotional weight. There’s Kokoa-chan, of course. You handle housework, too, right? And on top of that… you’ve got Misaki, who’s reeeeally heavy and depends on you quite a bit.”
…Um, why did she suddenly say that like a joke?
For a moment I thought she was messing around, but her expression stayed dead serious.
So she really meant it.
Well… she’s not wrong. Misaki is undeniably heavy.
I’ve gotten used to it, so it doesn’t bother me much anymore.
Besides, she’s cute.
—Still, from Sasagawa-sensei’s point of view, if I already seemed unsteady before, and then ended up with a sister-like girlfriend who’s overly dependent on me, it probably made her even more worried that I might eventually break down.
Up until now, she’s only shown support because Misaki was by my side, but it seems she’s been harboring concerns for a while.
“Even that Hyouka-chan seems to rely on you. I think there’s a good chance you’ll end up carrying her burdens too, if it comes to that.”
While I was still thinking about Misaki, Sasagawa-sensei suddenly brought up Suzumine-san.
Since she’s Misaki’s childhood friend, Sasagawa-sensei must’ve known her when she was younger too.
So it’s natural she’d be concerned.
“Suzumine-san…? I don’t really think she’d rely on me, though…”
She seems like someone who’d solve everything on her own.
Unlike Misaki, she doesn’t seem prone to messing things up.
Misaki’s usually reliable too, but when it comes to things related to Suzumine-san—or these days, anything involving me—she becomes a complete mess.
She’s the type who’s sharp and quick-witted when calm, but the moment she gets flustered or worked up, her brain just slows to a crawl.
“She was relying on you at the beach, wasn’t she?”
