Chapter 37 – Miyama Kanade to the Rescue
Why is Miyama-sensei here?
I know I need to run, but this is just so unexpected that I just froze.
It seems Minister Sakurada was just as surprised as I was.
“What’s with all these weird people walking in?! What are the guards doing?!”
He fumed. But while he, I, and his secretaries were all shocked, Miyama-sensei just took off her shoes and stepped into the living room.
Oh crap… I didn’t take off my shoes before coming in…
I remembered my mistake a little too late.
I watched her as she walked not towards me, but towards Minister Sakurada, a pleasant smile on her face.
“It’s been a while, Sakurada-san.”
Miyama-sensei said politely.
Minister Sakurada looked at her with a mix of surprise and annoyance.
“It’s been a while? I don’t know a common girl like you.”
Naturally, that’s what he’d say.
But what did she mean by “It’s been a while”?
I tilted my head, looking back and forth between her smiling face and Minister Sakurada’s confused one.
“I’m sure you don’t remember, but the last time we met was at the Imperial Party a decade ago, so it makes sense that you wouldn’t.”
“I don’t bother to remember every girl I’ve met once or twice at a party. Who are you? What do you want?”
“My name is Miyama Kanade. I’m a teacher at Seiou Private Academy.”
“So what?!”
“Would it be better if I introduced myself as Miyama Tsuguo’s daughter?”
Miyama-sensei’s fearless grin didn’t falter, but in contrast, the minister’s face went completely still at her words.
“M-Miyama Tsuguo? From Asakawa Beverages?”
Huh? Asakawa Beverages? The company that makes beer and juice?
My mind raced.
“Ah!”
I blurted out.
Oh my God, that’s right! She was always drinking beer. And she told me her family sends her as much as she wants…
Wait a minute. I knew she was rich, but is she really the daughter of the president of Asakawa Beverages?
I was so shocked by the fact that she was the daughter of a major company president and by the stupidly simple name. I was even more surprised than the minister.
But their conversation continued, leaving me behind.
“Oh, so you’re Miyama-san’s daughter… How rude of me.”
“No, I should be the one apologizing for barging in so suddenly.”
“So, what does Miyama-san’s daughter want today?”
Minister Sakurada asked.
Miyama-sensei’s smile disappeared, and with a cold look in her eyes, she continued,
“I’ll be blunt. You’re obviously aware of the rumors about Congressman Mifune’s second home. From a humanitarian standpoint, it’s highly questionable for you to send your own daughter there.”
The minister’s face went pale. He couldn’t meet her gaze.
“Well… It’s to help her develop social skills…”
“I see. So, your family’s educational policy is to turn your daughter into Congressman Mifune’s sex slave.”
“That’s not what I’m saying…”
The minister stumbled over his words.
Oi, oi, what’s wrong with you? Where did all the energy from earlier go?
I wondered why a national minister would be so intimidated by the daughter of a private company’s president. Apparently, that was a question I was about to get an answer to.
“Hah…”
Miyama-sensei let out a sigh.
“I don’t like to talk big like this, but… My father is a director of the Japan Business Federation. And Asakawa Beverages has made significant contributions to your party. You’re a minister, so you must know that even the public records show that Asakawa Beverages has supported the party for a long time. People would be shocked to hear that a minister of your party is using his own daughter as a sex slave to win a political battle.”
“It’s a misunderstanding! I’m not turning her into a sex slave!”
“A reasonable point. I’m sure the rumors about Congressman Mifune’s second home are just groundless gossip.”
“Yes! Exactly!”
“But there are many directors in the Japan Business Federation who won’t simply dismiss these rumors. What do you think they would make of this situation?”
“……”
The minister was speechless.
Listening to their conversation, I finally understood what was happening.
The Japan Business Federation is the largest economic organization in the country, made up of the top of the top companies, and a major supporter of his party.
I’m not a news buff, but I could tell they have a lot of power over politics… I know that’s a lame explanation, but that’s all I know.
“It seems we won’t get anywhere if you just stay silent. I’ll report this to my father immediately, and once it’s shared within the Federation, you’ll likely receive a formal letter of inquiry.”
Miyama-sensei bowed deeply to the minister.
“Minister, I apologize for my sudden visit. I’ve said all I needed to say. If you’ll excuse me.”
She turned to leave, but the minister stopped her.
“W-wait a minute!”
“Yes?”
“D-don’t you have a misunderstanding?”
“A misunderstanding?”
“Yes. It was just an idea. Nothing has been finalized. This was just a suggestion from one of my secretaries, and I’ve been skeptical of it from the beginning.”
I looked at the young secretary, who was in his 30s.
The secretary’s eyes widened in surprise, but then composed himself.
“It was just one of the ideas I proposed to the minister. I was simply exploring every possibility for building a relationship with the Mifune faction.”
Whoa, I think I just got a glimpse into the dark side of politics.
“So, the story about Sakurada Momo-san dropping out of school and going to Congressman Mifune’s second home…?”
“It was just an idea. As I said, I was skeptical, and we are still looking for other options.”
“I see. That’s a relief. Well then, have a good day.”
Miyama-sensei bowed once more and finally left the Sakurada residence.
Wow… Miyama-sensei is so cool…
