The Couple Has Such Good Chemistry They Can’t Finish Their Summer Homework.
At the end of summer vacation.
With less than a week until the second semester starts.
“I can’t finish my homework…”
I was in Hatsune-san’s apartment, trying to wrap up my summer homework.
“The amount of homework is just too much…”
“That’s part of it, but…”
Hatsune-san had a point. Since we were at a relatively good school, the amount of homework assigned was excessive. If we didn’t chip away at it daily, finishing it on time would be nearly impossible.
Amidst all this, Hatsune-san and I had been enjoying our first summer vacation together and dealing with the turmoil at the Ichigaya household.
As a result, my current progress was far from satisfactory.
That’s why we had gathered in Hatsune-san’s room to work together, but the situation hadn’t improved.
“I guess it wasn’t good that we started getting cozy about 30 minutes after beginning our homework today…”
Hatsune-san murmured those words. Anyone watching us would easily understand what we had been up to just moments ago.
Both of us were dressed lightly, having just showered, leaving a faint scent of soap lingering in the air.
The bed sheets were rumpled and slightly damp, and despite the air conditioning, the window was open for ventilation.
In such a setting, Hatsune-san and I sat side by side, taking a break while eating ice cream.
“I’m really having a lazy summer vacation…”
While my homework was at a standstill, I had been preoccupied with other activities, and evening was fast approaching.
In fact, this had been the same situation for the past few days.
“Hmm, I wonder how other high school couples solve this problem?”
“Well, I think it’s probably something similar.”
I’ve heard stories about how grades drop when one gets a girlfriend, and as someone who has been alone, my only source was articles online.
“The fact that you and I get along so well is a bit troublesome, isn’t it?”
Faced with Hatsune-san’s shy smile, I couldn’t help but feel my heart race, despite knowing better.
“If this keeps up, I’ll never finish my homework, so we have to figure something out.”
“Then… how about we finish our homework somewhere we can concentrate?”
“That sounds good. I also want to get it done, but… where should we go?”
Just like during the midterms, this room was not conducive to studying for us.
The reason was simple: it was a secluded space where we could be alone, with no interruptions.
Given that, a more public space would be better for studying.
Maybe a library or a study room at school…?
“Hatsune-san, why don’t we try something like a study camp?”
Hatsune-san suddenly suggested this while I was lost in thought.
“A study camp?”
“Yeah! An overnight study session sounds so youthful!”
“Well, that might be true, but… where would we stay?”
I had very few places in mind where we could spend the night. This room was one of them, but it was the first to be ruled out as a candidate for the camp.
We’d end up in the same situation as always.
So, if there were any other options, it would probably be just that one place.
“How about we have the study camp at your house?!”
Hatsune-san asked, her eyes sparkling with excitement.

After returning home.
I decided to ask my family if it would be okay for Hatsune-san to stay over at our place.
After dinner, my mother was cleaning up in the kitchen while Mayuki, returning from her cram school, lounged on the sofa, scrolling through her smartphone.
I brought up the topic.
“I was thinking about having a study camp with some classmates to finish our summer homework. Is it okay if we do it here?”
“Classmates, huh? That vague wording… You’re talking about that girlfriend of yours, right?”
I tried to be ambiguous, but my mother saw right through me in an instant.
“Hatsune-san’s coming to stay over!?”
Mayuki exclaimed as she jumped up from the sofa.
“Uh, yeah. I want to invite Hatsune-san over. Is that alright?”
“Well… It’s important to finish your homework, and that girl is nice, so she’s always welcome.”
My mother accepted more readily than I expected. It seems Hatsune-san has made a good impression on my family.
“But which room should she stay in?”
From the way my mother phrased it, it seemed that sharing my room was a no-go.
Well, I wouldn’t plan on doing anything inappropriate in a house with my parents around, anyway.
“This house doesn’t really have any spare rooms, does it?”
“Not really. But we can’t have our guest sleeping on the sofa either.”
My mother let out a thoughtful sigh while washing the dishes.
“Then, how about Hatsune-san sleeps in my room?”
Mayuki suggested enthusiastically.
She had initially seemed somewhat hostile during their first meeting, but now she had fully warmed up to Hatsune-san.
“I should mention that Hatsune-san is coming over for studying, not for play.”
“I know that.”
With that, the discussion was settled.
I sent Hatsune-san a message to let her know that my family had given her permission, and she replied with an excited response.
Hatsune-san is coming to stay at my house.
Thinking about it again, I felt a twinge of nervousness.
It wasn’t the first time Hatsune-san had come over, but staying overnight felt like it could lead to different developments than before.
Wait, no, no.
We’re doing this study camp to tackle our summer homework together, right?
I must not lose sight of our purpose.
