I Asked A Beautiful Girl, Who Was About To Jump Off The School Rooftop, 'If You're Going To Die Anyway, Could You At Least Take My Virginity Before You Go?' To My Surprise, She Agreed. - Chapter 38: Lovers Are Quite Fortunate.
Lovers Are Quite Fortunate.
A few days later.
It was now July, and most of the test results had been revealed. So far, Hatsune-san had scored full marks in every subject. During the Modern Literature class before lunch, the last test paper was returned, but Hatsune-san kept her result hidden. This was because the test rankings would be announced during the long homeroom session that afternoon.
At this school, after all the test papers are returned, a ranking sheet listing everyone’s results is handed out. According to Hatsune-san, “Isn’t it more exciting not knowing if I got full marks in all subjects until the rankings are announced?”
And so, with a sense of unease lingering, the lunch break before the long homeroom session arrived. In Class 2-3.
“The matter of the upcoming seat change…”
Just as Hatsune-san and I finished eating lunch at our seats, the class representative sitting in front turned around and spoke to us.
“Oh, right. We’re doing the seat change during the long homeroom session,” Hatsune-san responded while packing up her bento box.
The class representative leaned in closer, speaking in a hushed tone as if wary of others overhearing.
“Yes, regarding that seat change… I feel a bit guilty, so if you’d like, I could arrange for you two to sit next to each other again by rigging the lottery.”
“That means… you’re suggesting that Yakumo-kun and I can sit next to each other again?”
“That’s right,” the class rep whispered.
“Hmm, that’s a thoughtful offer, but… you don’t need to go out of your way for us,” Hatsune-san said with a smile.
“But don’t you want to be seated next to Ueno-kun again, Ichigaya-san?”
“Of course I do. But even if our seats change, there’s no way anything could come between Yakumo-kun and me!”
Hatsune-san confidently puffed out her chest with pride.
“My friend is too kind… I didn’t expect to be hit with such affection,” the class rep remarked, blushing slightly at Hatsune-san’s casual display of affection.
Honestly, I also felt a bit embarrassed. Though the happiness outweighed the embarrassment, making me realize I’m no different from her in that regard.

The awaited long homeroom session arrived.
Today, there were two big events: the seat change and the announcement of the final exam rankings. A discussion broke out among the class about which event to handle first. One of the classmates suggested, “If we announce the rankings first, it might ruin the mood, and we won’t be able to enjoy the seat change event to its fullest.” As a result, it was decided to go ahead with the seat change before the rankings were revealed.
“Alright, everyone, please come up in order to draw your lot,” the class rep announced, standing at the teacher’s podium.
The seat change would be determined by drawing lots. One by one, classmates went to the front, pulling a small piece of paper with a number from a box placed on the podium.
“Oh, it’s my turn. I’ll be right back,” Hatsune-san said as she stood up and headed to the front of the room.
After drawing her lot, she returned to her seat.
“I got number 7! Can you believe it? I drew the same window seat at the very back, just like before. What are the odds of that?”
Amazingly, Hatsune-san had drawn the exact same prime seat she had before.
“So, I guess I need to draw the same seat as before too…” I muttered.
“You really want to sit next to me, don’t you, Yakumo-kun?” Hatsune-san grinned teasingly, having overheard my comment.
“Well, if possible…” I responded.
“Hmm? It doesn’t sound like you’re that enthusiastic about it,” she said with a playful glint in her eyes.
“Of course I’d be happy to sit next to you again, but even if we end up apart, we can still be together,” I answered honestly, sharing what had been on my mind.
Hatsune-san’s once relaxed expression suddenly tightened, and her fair cheeks flushed red.
“…I see. That’s true,” she replied, her voice quieter than usual, though she seemed pleased nonetheless. It looked like she was satisfied with my response.
“Alright, it’s my turn to draw a lot,” I said, standing up after telling her I was going.
I had tried to sound cool, but the truth was… I really wanted to sit next to Hatsune-san again.
The seat next to number 7, which Hatsune-san had drawn, was 14. Thankfully, no one had drawn it yet.
If I used the X-ray vision skill I gained in that other world, I’d be able to see exactly which piece of paper in the box had number 14 written on it.
(But using that would just be cheating…)
I had just told Hatsune-san that there’s no need to be so fixated on sitting next to each other since we could still spend time together either way. So, when I stood in front of the podium, I decided to draw my lot without overthinking it.
I unfolded the small piece of paper and checked the number.
It said 14.
In the end, I ended up with the same seat as Hatsune-san again. I guess that’s pretty lucky, isn’t it?
“Yakumo-kun, how’d it go?” she asked.
“I got the same seat again,” I replied as I returned to my desk.
“Oh, nice job, Yakumo-kun.”
“Nah, just pure luck.”
“If that’s the case, I guess we’re both pretty lucky, huh?”
Well, she’s not wrong.
Even though I like to think luck isn’t everything, I doubt I could have ended up with someone like Hatsune-san without some stroke of luck.
As these thoughts crossed my mind, everyone had finished drawing their lots, and the room was buzzing with chatter about the results.
Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed the class rep doing a small fist pump in front of the podium.
Looks like the class rep also got a lucky draw.

The classmates moved to their new seats, and now it was time for the other important event—the test ranking announcement.
The homeroom teacher started distributing the sheets with our test rankings, arranged in order of our student numbers. My last name puts me near the start, so I received my sheet pretty early.
Each sheet listed our total score, individual subject scores, and both our class and year rankings. I glanced over my results and returned to my seat.
“Yakumo-kun, how did you do?” Hatsune-san asked.
“…45th,” I replied.
“Which means you made it into the top 50! Congrats, Yakumo-kun!”
“This is all thanks to studying with you, Hatsune-san. I was able to push myself harder than usual.”
“Really? Then we should keep studying together from now on.”
Hatsune-san looked genuinely pleased, as if my success was her own.
“So, how about your results, Hatsune-san?”
“My rank is, of course, first in the year. And my score is…”
She paused for dramatic effect, then showed me her modern literature test paper, which had been withheld until now.
In bright red ink, it read: 100 points.
Which meant…
“I got a perfect score in every subject!”
“…Hatsune-san, you’re even smarter than I imagined.”
“I don’t usually perform this well, but thanks to you, I was really motivated this time. Plus, we had our little agreement, didn’t we?”
Right, the agreement.
We had made a deal before the tests: If I ranked within the top 50, Hatsune-san would tell me something I didn’t yet know about her. And if she got a perfect score in all subjects, I would reveal the secret behind my abilities to her.
“So, does this mean we’ll both be sharing our secrets?”
“Yeah. But, could we do it another day?” she asked.
“That’s fine. When would you prefer?”
“July 7th.”
“…Tanabata?”
“It’s not specifically because it’s Tanabata,” she said with a small smile.
“Is that so?”
“Yeah. There’s a place I want to take you to on that day when I tell you about myself.”
A place she wants to take me on July 7th.
I couldn’t even begin to guess where that might be. But I had a feeling it wasn’t going to be a cheerful conversation.
There was a wistful look in Hatsune-san’s eyes as she narrowed them slightly, as if she were gazing at something distant and unreachable.
