Chapter 88: The Rescued Men

Ideally, we would have preferred to bring back the women’s bodies back to the village, but their condition was too horrible for that.

Also, there was a high possibility that there were still scout or raider parties left, so we hid the corpses of the goblins we had defeated and waited for the other goblins to return to the nest. Actually, Paula-san and Ilei-san had defeated more than 10 goblins while we were busy with the raid. 

Goblins multiply quickly even if there were only a few of them, hence why we needed to eradicate them completely. Leaving the goblin corpses as it was would lead to spread of infectious diseases too. We had to take the dead goblin outside, burn them and then bury the ashes in the ground to be safe. Goblins were truly a nuisance. 

While we were busy, the two rescued men rested inside the carriage. It seemed neither of them had eaten well for who knows how many days, so we prepared a warm vegetable soup and something easy to digest for them. By the time dusk fell, we had finished cleaning up all the goblins and everyone gathered for dinner together. 

“Ah… So warm and delicious…”

“Yeah… I can feel the warmth penetrating my core… This is the most delicious soup I’ve ever had.”

“I’m glad you like it. There’s plenty more where that came from, so feel free to eat until you’re full. Oh, but, don’t overeat too. Your body is still too weak. It’s better if you take your time and eat slowly, okay?”

I simmered the vegetables until the vegetables became soft enough for them. I wanted to cook something tender rich in nutrients that could strengthen their weakened bodies. However, it wouldn’t be good for them to eat too much either since their body had been left hungry for a long time. I knew they must be having a very hard time, especially after knowing they had lost their wives, but I hoped they could quickly regain their strength.

“Yeah, don’t worry about us. We already have a plan to stop by the village anyway. Please rest well, we will make sure the two of you get home safely tomorrow.”

There wasn’t anything of value in the goblin nest. There were some belongings of the female guard, but we decided to bring all of it to return them to their respective families. We didn’t receive any monetary reward from this raid and to be honest, none of us were aiming for any reward either. However, it seemed the two men were feeling a bit guilty because of it.
