Chapter 84: Female Goblin

“I’ve never seen a miso before in Annick… So the people from  Souma-sama’s hometown eat this often?”

“That’s right, Ilei-san. This is called miso soup. People in my hometown eat this every morning.”

Furthermore, the market in the Royal Capital also sold something that resembled a dried seaweed (kombu). Unfortunately, they didn’t have dried fish (katsuobushi) though, but still, I was already grateful enough to be able to find kombu here.

I made broth using the kombu and then I added green onions and other vegetables along with the miso paste. Ideally, I would love to add tofu as well, but of course I hadn’t found tofu yet in this world. But still, this miso soup that I made was able to bring back the nostalgic flavor I missed so dearly. 

“This stir-fry is delicious too! It’s slightly sweet and salty at the same time!”

“I also used miso paste for the stir-fry, Paula-san.”

For the stir-fry, I cooked thinly sliced meat and vegetables together, then I added sauce made from miso paste, fish sauce and sugar. Since everyone had been eating food with strong flavors during our stay in the Royal Capital, I made the seasoning a bit milder on purpose.

“The pasta is delicious too.”

“Tia-sama, Souma-sama was the one that prepared the seasoning for the paste too! He added miso in it!”

I tried adding miso paste to Jerome-san’s recipe. The sauce was made with ground meat and it turned out, ground meat tasted great with miso. 

“The food at that expensive inn was delicious, but Souma’s cooking is truly the best indeed!”

“Yeah, not only is his cooking delicious, but it’s also unique! Definitely the kind of flavor that you can’t find anywhere else!”

“Souma would make a great husband.”

“Haha… Thank you for the compliment.”

It seemed the miso paste suited everyone’s palate. I could use miso in cooking for everyone’s meal when we returned to their party house then. As for Flora… I guess I should just take her words as a compliment. 

I had bought a lot of miso and kombu at the Royal Capital. Furthermore, it turned out the shop where I had bought these had been open in the Royal Capital for a long time. I wouldn’t need to worry about this shop going out of business anytime soon then. Not only miso and kombu, but this shop also sold a wide variety of spices and seasoning. I definitely had to visit this shop again when I came to the capital.

“Hoaaaam…. Haa.. I couldn’t sleep well.”

It wasn’t because I had grown accustomed to the soft bed in that luxurious inn. However, since we got attacked on our first night of leaving Annick, I was worried we might get attacked on our first night leaving the capital as well. 

Of course, I knew everyone would protect me without fail. I didn’t doubt their skill, but I just couldn’t shake my fear away.

I’m still a coward even though I can use healing and barrier magic… I really haven’t changed much, huh… Not that I’m proud of it though…

Getting out of the tent, I saw that everyone was just beginning to wake up and come out from their tents as well. Fortunately, we didn’t get attacked last night.

After breakfast, we continued our journey to Annick. The morning passed by without any incident. Our journey was progressing smoothly with us taking several breaks along our way to our camping spot for the day. 

Eventually, we reached the end of the plains. We would be going through the mountain path after this. This small mountain was a new addition from a new route that we had created to avoid getting ambushed again.

“Hihiiiin!”

“Whoa-?!”

While we were traveling along the mountain path, suddenly the horses neighed loudly, causing the carriage to shake violently. 

“Enemy attack! It’s goblins!”

Paula-san shouted and the next thing I knew, Elmie and Flora had vanished from the carriage. Only Ferris remained inside, with her shield up protectively. 

As expected from high-ranking adventurers. Elmie and the others were quick to get into combat at any given moment. 

“Ge-gyaaa!”

“Gugyaaa!~”

I could hear the sounds of battle against the goblins from outside the carriage. It seemed there were more than just one or two goblins outside. 

“Alright. It’s safe for Souma to come out now.”

“Fret not, Souma.”

The sound of battle went on for a while until Elmie and Flora called out to me from outside the carriage. Nodding to Ferris, I then stepped outside the carriage. 

“Is everyone okay? Any injuries?”

“We’re fine. There were a lot of them, but in the end, they were just goblins anyway.”

“We’re all good over here too!”

The scenery outside the carriage was quite grim to see. Our carriage was attacked by about 5 to 6 goblins and it seemed they also attacked Tia-san’s carriage too, who was traveling ahead of us. All in all, there were about 10 goblin corpses scattered here and there.

The goblins had thick green skin and a stout body type. Their noses were flat and crooked. Their ears were pointed. Overall, their faces looked ugly, just like how goblins were depicted in fantasy stories. The only difference here was that all of the goblins that attacked us were all females, as could be seen from their bulging chest. 

“Ugh..”

Putting aside the goblin corpse in front of me, the stench of the blood was horribly nauseating. The smell of their entrails that were scattered around were also beyond anything I had smelled before.

“Souma, are you okay?”

“Ju-Just give me a moment… Yeah, I’m fine now.”

Stepping away from the goblin corpse, I took a moment to steady my breath. I never knew how strong the stench of monster blood and entrails could be. In fact, I hadn’t ventured outside the city since coming to this world. The only monsters I had seen were the slimes that melted my clothes before… That and the boar-like monster that I saw on our way to the capital from Annick.

“Tia, what do you think?”

“Judging from the number of female goblins attacking us… There’s probably a goblin nest nearby.”

“Yeah, I think so too.”

T/N: It’s ironic to say this novel is realistic since the healing magic in here is very very OP, but!! The way MC gagged cuz of the smell is realistic. That’s why it’s very important to drain the blood first, cuz that’s the ultimate source of stench! (·•᷄‎ࡇ•᷅ )
